Diablo defeats Cerebro, Anima I passes away, Dia de Muertos

IWRG (WED) 10/22/2014 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Muerte Infernal b Black Niko
2) Araña de Plata & Atomic Star b Saruman & Sky Ángel
Saruman may be back, but he can’t find a win.
3) Rayan & Spartan b Dragón Celestial & Imposible
Celestial & Imposible had a friendly fire incident which led to their loss and a post match break up. Imposible may be returning to the rudo side.
4) Apolo Estrada Jr., Canis Lupus, Eterno b Emperador Azteca, Golden Magic, Metaleon
Rudos took 1/3, Canis submitted Azteca for the win.
5) El Hijo del Diablo b Dr. Cerebro © [WWS WELTER]
Golden Magic was Cerebro’s second. Apolo was Diablo’s second and interfering. Hijo del Diablo took 2/3 to win the champion. Dr. Cerebro falls on the first defense. Diablo is the 10th champion since the title came to IWRG…when Cerebro beat Diablo for it back in 2010.

A strong night for evil, especially if they’re getting one more in their ranks. Imposible himself didn’t know why he was a tecnico, but that seems to be coming to an end. Didn’t realize the WWS title had come completely full circle until looking up the title histories; the end game here still seems to be a hair match with those two.

Ciudad Juarez luchador Anima I was shot and killed at his burrito stand on Wednesday. His real name was Jesús Ernesto Malacara Castañeda, and he was 35 years old. Anima I wrestled as recently as last month. No suspect was found; the murder took place during a shift change at the Social Security building where Anima’s stand was located. Anima fought as recently as last month, defending the local Ciudad Juarez tag titles with Anima II against Hijo de Medico Asesino and Pagano. A story about Anima I’s career confirms Anima II & Anima III were his brothers and mentions Anima I left wrestling for years due to an foot injury suffered in a card accident.

CMLL Informa talked to Amapola and the Guerreros about upcoming titles matches, but the big news from the show came from the opening segment, where Julio Cesar Rivera, Miguel Reducino and Olimpico heavily pushed the Dia de Muertos shows. They’re pushing these as the biggest shows since the Anniversary show and announcing the matches much earlier in advance than usual.

CMLL (FRI) 10/31/2014 Arena México
1) Hombre Bala & Súper Halcón Jr. vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Raziel, Virus
3) Máximo, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Cavernario, Felino, Hechicero
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Vangellys
5) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Thunder
6) Rush vs Último Guerrero

The Rush/UG singles mach seemed like the direction they were heading the last couple of weeks and of course Ultimo Guerrero hinted as much. The other story about that is normal wrestlers in CMLL only know their bookings about a week in advance, while Ultimo Guerrero somehow knew his matches many weeks in advance. But I think we knew Ultimo Guerrero is not a normal wrestler. UG is 2-1 against Rush in normal matches.

The general idea with both of these cards seems to be the rudos (or at least some of the wrestlers) dressing up in scary/Halloween costumes to give the matches a different look. Olimpico had bodypaint on to show what it may look like. I hope Thunder dresses up as Frankenstein (not the luchador.) Olimpico also teased a big surprise for this show. Both of these shows are free for children in costume and this is about the time where Mistico was expected to be back in the ring, and maybe that surprise is reintroducing him in front of a heavy kid’s audience.

Second matches have gotten really good since we’re no longer able to seem them. Tercera also looks good.

CMLL (SUN) 11/02/2014 Arena México
1) Astral & Eléctrico vs Demus 3:16 & Mercurio
2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Princesa Sugehit vs Dallys la Caribeña, La Seductora, Zeuxis
3) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Hombre sin Nombre, Morphosis, Olímpico
4) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Super Porky vs Ephesto, Kráneo, Mephisto
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas © vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush [MEX TRIOS]
Peste Negra are champions, 3rd defense
6) Atlantis vs Último Guerrero

First rematch of the mask match in Arena Mexico (though rematches have been billed at small shows.) Atlantis probably isn’t kicking out of the Guerrero Special.

Semimain is the missing trios title match from the Anniversary show, barring any surprise vacations. The Ingobernables shouldn’t lose two title matches in a row at this point, but then they shouldn’t be booked on tecnico sides at this point at they still air so who knows.

Note Hombre sin Nombre and Kraneo are in the ‘wrong’ matches. It looks like Hombre sin Nombre got demoted already and the idea of the new trio may be over before it got going. Morphosis and Olimpico are back in Arena Mexico after a long absence.

TerceraCaida had an all highlight edition of the show, with the Sin Cara interview from the WWE Mexico shows.

AAA hasn’t announced it’s card for 11/17 in Leon quite yet, but Los Psycho Circus revealed they’ll be facing the Hell Brothers in an interview hyping the match. That’s a rematch from Heroes Inmortales.

The NCAA (college sports) in the US will start selling team colored lucha libre style masks. Lucha masks have been showing very occasionally at US sports events for the last few years – there’s always a San Diego Charger fan in a Rey Misterio mask, and it’s always hilarious when they show a Steelers fan wearing a yellow and black mask without knowing it’s a Septiembre Negro mask.

I would classify the Underground Luchadore tumbler as “insanely fired up for Wednesday’s premiere” based on the latest tumblr post. Paul Heyman’s pre-show speech at Barely Legal fired up.

ChilangaMask announced a 12/21 Coliseo Coacalco show, teasing a cage match.

Arena Xalapa is bringing in Dinamitas, Trio Fantasia, Skayde, Black Terry and Shu el Guerrero for their 11/02 Crazy Man/Tigre Cosmico mask match show.
