Cara Lucha, Rest of the World defeats Mexico, apuesta draw, WWE Mexico

Cara Lucha (SAT) 10/18/2014 Arena San Juan Pantitlan, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal [@terceracaida, The Gladiatores]
1) Aerodinmic & Principe Aereo b Skull Metal & Trasher
2) Arkanos, Belial, Fly Star, Hombre Bala Jr., Impulso, Látigo, Rayo Star, Súper Halcón Jr. b Alfa, Andy Boy, Danger, Kilvan, Omega, Oro Jr., Star Jr., Toxin Boy, Yoruba [Copa Caralucha de Parejas]
8 team tournament, but not a single elimination one. The Gladiatores calls it confusing and isn’t quite sure of the rules. All eight teams fought at the same time. Instead of the announced teams moving on, new teams appeared to have been formed by the pinfall/elimination order. Teams of Fly Star & Impulso, Belial & Rayo Star, Latigo & Super Halcon Jr. and Hombre Bala & Arkanos (a replacement for one of the other eight guys) move onto the next round.
3) Aeroboy b Flamita, Tritón
No Rey Cometa (no reason given), so the scheduled tag match was made a three way.
4) Súper Nova b Trauma II
Super Nova tried to be Trauma with his own spider leg lock, but Trauma II out smarted him and got it himself. Trauma challenged for a title match (unclear which one) and Nova accepted.
5) Extreme Tiger b Cavernario
Cavernario overwhelmed Extreme Tiger but Tiger still got the win.

Not sure about the card order, each source went with a different order. Cara Lucha definitely fooled everyone by using making bizarre decisions on the tag team tournament, but it’s hard to see how it made anything better or made people want to come back and see the next round. The mismatched partners bit is up there with seeding battle royals and lucha cage matches as dumb concepts that need to go away ASAP. Rayo Star & Toxin Boy did the same dive Sky Man got hurt on, but they had about 14 people to catch them.

CMLL (SUN) 10/19/2014 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000 Bam Bam, Fantasy, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pequeno Nitro, Pequeno Olipico, Pequeno Universo 2000, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Dragon Lee, Mr. Cacao, Tritón b Misterioso Jr., Raziel, Skándalo Dragon Lee, Mr. Cacao, Triton vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Skandalo, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Raziel replaced Sagrado. Tecnicos took 1/3. Cacao feuded with Skandalo (since Arkangel wasn’t around.) Dragon Lee and Triton looked great, but Triton appeared to suffer a severe knee injury on the landing of his double springboard moonsault onto Valiente. Skandalo also needed medical attention after the match but it was less clear what had occurred – CMLL says he went to the hospital with a knee injury.
3) Dalys, Dark Angel, Makoto, Narumiya, Zeuxis b Amapola, Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit [cibernetico] Mexico vs Rest of the World Luchadora cibernetico, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Mexico vs the World. Vaquerita replaced Goya Kong (double booked in Guadalajara). Elimination order went Vaquerita (Narumia cradle), Dalys (Marcela misaimed top rope double stomp), Princesa Sugehit (Zeuxis Caballete), Marcela (Dark Angel cradle), Dark Angel (Amaopla Devi’s Wings), Estrellita (Zeuxis La Roca package piledriver), Amapola (Makota spear/cradle) leaving Makota as the win. Makota was barely in the match before the winning it. She politely challenged Amapola for her REINA Championship, and an aggravated Amapola accepted it for next week.
4) Ephesto, Kráneo, Mephisto b Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky Atlantis, Mascara Dorada, Super Porky vs Ephesto, Kraneo, Mephisto, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rudos took 1/3.
5) Diamante Azul b Shocker Diamante Azul vs Shocker, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Diamante Azul took 2/3, the last after Shocker was supposed to kick Tirantes into the ropes, missed or just couldn’t, Tirantes took a huge bump anyway, Azul fouled Shocker and covered him for the win. Fans threw garbage in the ring after the finish (and very tepid match.)

Main event seemed like a bad idea on paper and worked out exactly that way. This needed some special thought to work, but they just did a lesser version of a regular match and it didn’t work at all. Crowd didn’t care for it either – Azul had a noticeable lack of support for someone who’s been pushed as a top guy for years and it wasn’t as if the fans were behind Shocker either. I can’t figure out if CMLL just sees Diamante Azul in a much more positive light or just didn’t care much about this show.

The women’s match was the most entertaining match on the show (though the segunda definitely had it’s moments and it’s going to be sad if Triton is gone for long.) Makoto winning and setting up a title match is exactly normal for how Joshi wrestlers are booked in CMLL, but the way she did came off like they were trying their best to hide her and the finish itself made it seem like they had a good reason to hide her. Next week’s match could be Amapola’s greatest ever challenge.

CMLL (SUN) 10/19/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Meteoro b Relampago Azul
Meteoro won via armbar.
2) Furia Nazi b Índigo
Furia Nazi won with a top rope plancha.
3) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Sky Kid & Smaker
Rudos took 1/3, Rey Trueno sneaking a foul on Sky Kid
4) Goya Kong b Tiffany
Goya splash on Tiffany.
5) Javier Cruz Jr. DRAW Acertijo [hair]
Acertijo took the first, Javier Cruz took the second, and both somehow tied in the third fall for the draw. Both men got their heads shaved.
6) La Sombra & Omar Brunetti b Mr. Águila & Sádico and Gallo & Titán and Cavernario & Ráfaga
Sombra & Omar beat Cavenrario & Rafaga for the win.

There’s a lot of parity booking among the Guadalajara locals, but a draw in a hair match is taking it to new heights.

known draws in major promotions apuesta matches
2001-09-16 (AAA): Tiffany DRAW Pimpinela Escarlata [hair]
2003-02-14 (CMLL): Ricky Marvin DCOR Zumbido [hair]
2008-02-10 (Arena Solidaridad): Sky DRAW Oquidea Negra [hair]
2011-10-22 (IWL): Tony Rivera DRAW Zumbido [hair]
2012-03-02 (CMLL): Negro Casas DRAW Blue Panther [hair]
2012-09-06 (IWRG): Temerario Infernal DRAW Oficial AK47 [hair]
2014-10-19 (ACG): Javier Cruz Jr. DRAW Acertijo [hair]

Acertijo has now lost his hair 3 times (and his mask once.) This is Cruz’s second hair loss.

I had a post on Lucha Underground earlier. A detail to add: [Brian] Cage attacked Fenix after his match with Prince Puma, so put him in line for a title shot at Puma sometime down the line. (They’ve got enough heel challengers lined up that Puma could realistically last the entire first ‘season’ as champ with fresh opponents.)

SuperLuchas has a recap of WWE’s show in Mexico City. Sin Cara beat Fandango in the segunda second match and the crowd was behind him. He got some Mistico chants though it seemed most knew it was a new guy (and were fine with that.) Torito getting in a shot on Heath Slater got the biggest reaction. of that match. I was told the building looked about 80% full, which is a pretty good number all considered.

Shots of tonight’s Arena Monterrey event show entire sections of unsold tickets. +LuchaTV had their own interview with Sin Cara earlier this week.

AAA held a free spot show Saturday night in Arena Naucalpan. This wasn’t advertised on AAA’s website or IWRG’s website and I didn’t hear anything about it until the night of the show. It must’ve been advertised somewhere since Ludxor had a poster. The building was lit very differently than normal and there were cameras filming the show. AAA’s done things like this when they’ve wanted to quietly film TV pilots – they did something similar a few years ago for a Search For A New Abismo Negro show that never went past that pilot. I’d guess that’s what happened here, but it seems weird for AAA to be working on yet another new TV show. Scenes being filmed for another non-AAA non-lucha TV show – like the Black Terry match that was part of a telenovela – would also fit that set up.

This week’s MLW Radio has a brief interview with Rey Misterio Jr., but they didn’t touch on any of his WWE issues for obvious reasons. In Lucha Underground news, Konnan was excited about a new (unnamed) woman wrestler they had agreed to bring in, would want Willie Mack in the group now that  he’s available, and still hoped they could work out something to get the Young Bucks aboard.

A discussion about men vs women matches – Court thinks they’re a bad idea in the current cultural climate, Konnan says the Mexican fans have had no problem with them, the current cultural climate sucks and he’s had great success booking them the last six years – transitioned into a aside about what was actually not permitted on Lucha Underground. Konnan says Mark Burnett’s people said there could be no minis on the show and definitely no exoticos on the show. AAA and DeJoseph pushed for it, got Mascarita Sagrada a chance, and he got over great. They all went to bat for Pimpinela Escarlata, the other side allowed it only if Pimpinela Escarlata didn’t do certain things, and even a restricted Pimpinela got over big.

Konnan didn’t say anything about on the podcast, but I’m sure there’s a thought about bringing Mamba in to Lucha Underground. It’d give Pimpinela someone to work against, and Mamba seems like a great fit for the style they’re trying to do. There’s not enough room for everyone who’d be good on this show and, if some people didn’t want to bring in Pimpi to begin with, it’s probably going to be tough to bring in people just to work with Pimpi, but maybe it’s something for down the road.

This is where the 10/26 Arena Mexico lineup would go, but it’s not out quite yet. The 11/02 show will be in Arena Mexico as well. CMLL started taking winter vacations from running shows Arena Coliseo in 2009, moving all the Sundays shows to Arena Mexico after about the 10th of December. They made that same move a month earlier last year, with the final 2013 Arena Coliseo show being held 11/10. There’s been no official announcement of the schedule this year, but it seems likely there’s only one or two more Arena Coliseo shows left on the 2014 schedule.

  1. If They Ever Decide On Adding Another Exotico, Not Saying That Mamba Is A Bad Choice, But They Should Contact Cassandro, & Hopefully Have Him On Some Future Underground Tapings.
