CMLL (FRI) 10/03/2014 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito b Astral & Stukita
2) Cachorro, Dragon Lee, Fuego b Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
Cachorro submitted Raziel
3) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis
4) Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Terrible b Máscara Dorada, Titán, Valiente
Rudos took 2/3. Terrible splash on Titan
5) Euforia & Rush b La Sombra, Super Porky, Máximo, Puma, Delta, Stuka Jr. [Copa Jr., Copa Jr. VIP, seeding battle royal]
6) Stuka Jr. b Delta [Copa Jr. VIP, eightfinal]
8) Máximo b Puma [Copa Jr. VIP, eightfinal]
9) La Sombra b Ángel de Oro [Copa Jr. VIP, eightfinal]
Angel de Oro replaced Brazo de Plata.
10) Rush b Euforia [Copa Jr. VIP, eightfinal]
11) Máximo b Stuka Jr. [Copa Jr. VIP, quarterfinal]
12) La Sombra b Rush [Copa Jr. VIP, quarterfinal]
fake match! Sombra & Rush came to the ring together, and Rush laid down so Sombra could easily beat him and advance.
13) La Sombra DQ Máximo [Copa Jr. VIP, semifinal]
quick match. Rush attacked Maximo before it started. Maximo kissed Sombra and Sombra fouled him for the DQ.
14) Mephisto, Thunder, Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Volador Jr.
Rudos took 1/3. La Mascara & Volador didn’t get along, though it didn’t directly lead to their loss.

Maximo versus Mephisto is a match that’s happening. I’m not sure why it needed to happen but I guess anything after the Annviersary show was going to be a step down so why worry about how many steps you’re actually going.

That was Sombra and Rush’s first singles match ever. Not really doing is better than doing it in a random tournament which will be forgot tomorrow, but maybe not setting it up to happen in the first place coudl’ve worked too. Rush insisting on Wednesday that he would totally fight Sombra if they happened to match up and then not fighting him when they did match up works if Rush is supposed to be a heel. I’m not sure if he’s supposed to be a heel!

Arena Mexico flips over to boxing today for the finals of the Mexico City Golden Gloves tournament.

Another three minute trailer for Lucha Underground was posted yesterday. This one looked to be generally taken from the first couple days of tapings, based on the matches shown and the people who do not appear much if at all (Fenix, Pentagon, Drago, not-Fantasma.) I’m still hoping something with those guys makes it in the first show – that first impression is so important, and I think Lucha Underground’s best one has that triangle match airing at the end of 10/29 and not ending the two hour premier with Chavo Guerrero Jr. laying everyone out (the filmed end of episode 2) – exciting action by “newcomers” is a lot better hook than a ex-WWE prelim guy being treated as dominant heel, especially as as first impression.

Anyway, the video does a good job getting across the tone of the series and introduces the characters who were on that first show. It looks like hometown hero Prince Puma might not be talking for himself – Konnan, as his trainer, talks on his behalf in this promo. I had heard that one of the reasons WWE didn’t pick up Ricochet was his accent and maybe Lucha Underground actually feels the same way. Or maybe it’s just because it’s tougher to sell a guy as an Aztec decedent if he’s sounds like Kentucky.

Pentagon Jr. is back in LA for this weekend’s Lucha Underground shows, joining random new debutante Super Fly. Super Fly being on the show is cool, but I would’ve guessed about 30 people would’ve made it before him. Also, kind of curious about how quickly the visa paperwork situation changed; it’s quickly gone from three people on the roster not being able to work because it wasn’t done on the first week to just about any random dude being brought in any time. I know the plan changed (from “only 5” to “more than 5!”) but they were able to make that change quicker than I’d figure. Maybe they just took care of everyone’s paperwork at the same time?

El Rey’s Twitter says, for the time being, Lucha Underground will be US only.

Tonight’s the first extended Lucha Undergroudn taping. There’s also a cage.

Alberto el Patron announced he’d have to postpone a trip to the UK from 12/06 to 12/13. He doesn’t say why, but it’s not to hard to guess AAA’s decided to run Guerra de Titanes somewhere around that 12/06 weekend and Alberto would figure to be in a big match on that show.

Demus has a CMLL interview saying he’s going to win the CMLL minis title shot cibernetico on Sunday and get revenge on Electrico for injuring him while he’s at it. This is concerning, because I had picked Demus but the person who does the CMLL interview never wins these things.

Monster Clown says he’s not concerned about facing Chessman in Tlahuelilpan, because the Psycho Circus has been dominant over La Socidead. Just to prove the point, he names every win they have the last few months. He’s got a point, though it seemed like Psycho and Murder were more carrying the load.

The El Rayo Vida de Lucha Libre reality show on SLP luchador Rayo de Plata has been picked up by Mexico’s Unicable and will start airing this Sunday at 3pm. I thought it was enjoyable for reality fare.

Chik Tormenta retained the NWG Diva’s Championship in the main event of a benefit show for Estrella Explosiva. Estrella was at the show; her left leg is in a hard cast from mid thigh all the way down to her ankle.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news report.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/10/2014 Arena México
1) Robin & Soberano Jr. vs Akuma & Disturbio
2) Black Panther, Pegasso, Tritón vs Misterioso Jr., Skándalo, Virus
3) Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Ephesto, Felino, Hechicero

5) Máximo vs Mephisto [Copa Jr. VIP, Copa Jr., final]
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Niebla Roja Euforia, Thunder, Último Guerrero

Ingobernables versus Guerreros in the main event. Figuring Mephisto will win the main event. Not a lot going on. Parts of the tercera could be good – Ephesto & Hechicero is an underrated pairing – but it probably won’t air.

IWRG (WED) 10/08/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Galaxy vs Extraño
2) Aramis & Sky Ángel vs Araña de Plata & Atomic Star
3) Dragón Celestial & Imposible vs Anubis Black & Hip Hop Man
4) Dr. Cerebro, Metaleon, Veneno vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo
5) Emperador Azteca, Golden Magic, Kenshi Kabuki vs Danny Casas, Eterno, Oficial 911 [super libre]

That might be the first Emperador Azteca main event on a non-FILL show. It’s a very much locals only card. They go the other way the following week…

AAA IWRG (WED) 10/15/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Emperador Azteca & Metaleon vs Anubis Black & Atomic Star
2) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo vs Apolo Estrada, Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Hip Hop Man
3) Jennifer Blake, La Jarochita, Súper Nova vs Eterno, Sexy Lady, Taya Valkyrie
4) Monsther Clown & Murder Clown vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Myzteziz, Psycho Clown vs Averno, Chessman, Texano Jr.

Someone’s got to take the photo of Myzteziz meeting the Ninja Turtles. There’s no better reason to have this show.

  1. Mephisto or Maximo? I got to go with Mephisto, at least an apuesta match with him is still something that could draw. Build Mephisto up with a win and then pair him up against some one like Valiente or Dorada to take the devil’s mask.
