recap

taped 2014-08-06 @ Plaza de Toros El Pinal, Teziutlan, Puebla

Dinsatia sault

Dinastía, El Elegido, Faby Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Demon Rocker, Mamba, Mini Charly Manson, Taya Valkyrie:[OK] Kind of a blah match for the first half which picked up after the break, but never turned into anything memorable. It existed to build up Taya/Faby, and it did just that. Demon Clown/Dinastia was the best match up. They did a smooth bit to set up Tirantes helping Pimpinela to the top rope. Faby and Taya tried the same escape out of armbar here as TripleMania, but it looked better at TripleMania.

Fenix missile tope con giro

Fénix, Myzteziz, Psycho Clown vs Averno, Black Warrior, Texano Jr.: [GOOD] Fine main event, shorter than usual but working hard for the time they had. A lot of Myzteziz/Black Warrior in this match; this feels like the closest thing they’ll get to having a big match against each other in AAA. Fenix had an embarrassing top rope armdrag miss that they tried to zoom away from, but otherwise looked fine. Psycho Clown and Texano were part of the match but not the specific focus of it – they did as much with it after the match, talking back and forth and doing an impromptu lumberjack match with no finish. They stuck with the post match for many minutes after the fact too. Announcers brought up the four way match, but there were no videos for it for TripleMania at any point, which was odd given all the extra time. Show was obviously reedited to work in Alberto del Rio, but that would explain a match being dropped and not no room for a 30 second promo. (Cruiserweight match was never mentioned.)

Aerostar, Bengala, Drago vs Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagón Jr., Súper Fly: [GOOD] A cruiserweight match built around Aerostar and Super Fly feuding, so weird. I mean, that’s exactly what they should be doing if AAA is actually doing that match, but it’s not what AAA actually does. They got the other técnicos more into it in the second half of the match. Not a super match but worth watching. Drago had a great 1 on 3 sequence after the comeback. Bengala wasn’t bad either, and his bit with Fantasma was a nice tease of a match that might never happen. I’m entirely sure what was supposed to have happened on the finish – Bengala countering Fantasma’s clothesline) into a Spanish Fly while on Pentagon’s shoulders? It was an especially chaotic sequence, with the cameras missing the three count and everyone ending up shaken up. Announcers talking about Ricochet being a Japanese wrestler from New Japan was amusing. Strong prep work!

Super Fly’s harsh exit of the weekend
Bengala walk rope dropkick
Bengala has great aim
Drago builds his own staircase
Aerostar is out of here
Pirata sault. I’ve run out of good captions.

Daga, Eterno, Steve Pain vs Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans: [OK/GOOD] didn’t click as much as it would seem from the name on the lineup. Hijo del Pirata Morgan is good but didn’t mesh here as well as Steve Pain. It may come in time but there wasn’t a good flow to this match, especially during the long and a bit tedious rudo dominated middle portion. There were good parts too: I liked Jack’s determination to keep his headlock on Eterno, and Daga looked great near the end. His tornado DDT choke was good and he worked well with Suicide leading up to the finish.

Jack just keeps moving
Suicide dive is caught!
Daga just keeps holding on
This keeps ending badly for Suicide
