Euforia beat Diamante Azul again

Didn’t hear a lot about the show but the minis match sounded like it had some good moments. They haven’t advanced to making title match challenges in the main event.

CMLL (SUN) 08/31/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Dr. Frezeer b El Yaqui
2) Virgo b Demonio Rojo
3) Sky Kid & Smaker b Acertijo & Sádico
Tecnicos took 2/3
4) Demonio Maya & Maléfico b Esfinge & Exterminador
Rudos took 2/3, losing the first by excessive violence. Malefico (eliminated) snuck in a foul on Exterminador to set up Demonio Maya’s win. Hair match challenged followed.
5) Tritón b Ráfaga
6) Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Dragón Rojo Jr., Máscara Dorada, Titán
Rudos took 2/3.

Team Dorada/Titan hopes to do better tonight in Arena Puebla, one of the eight teams in block one of a massive tag team tournament. Massive in size, though perhaps not importance or match quality. Running only 9 matches (and one non-match battle royal) may give them 5-9 minutes per match to do something if everything is planned well. This is not going to happen, but if CMLL is putting 16 teams in this tournament, why not put at least one Puebla locals team in there?

Cerebro submitted Tony. Money thrown in.
4) Kenshi Kabuki, Pantera, Relámpago b Apolo Estrada Jr., El Hijo del Diablo, Trauma II
Tecnicos took 2/3, Kenshi submitting Trauma II. Pantera and Trauma feuded.
5) Demon Clown b Dr. Wagner Jr.Trauma IHijo De Dos CarasVenenoLA ParkOficial AK47Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [Ladder, money]
This time, they stuck all the guys from the undercard around the ring as lumberjacks to fight anyone who left the ring. If they left the ring for 20 seconds, they were eliminated from the match. Trauma I (feuding with Ak47) was counted out when he was buried under chairs. Veneno was also counted out brawling with lumberjacks. The ladders were not allowed used for the first 10 minutes; LA Park brought it out after that point, but he and Wagner brawled outside to eliminate each other. LA Park was so furious about this that he took the ladder with him as he went to the back. IWRG brought out a second ladder. Demon Clown took out AK-47 with a piledriver and splsahed Hijo de Mascara off the middle rope. Hijo de Dos tried to stop Demon, but Demon tied his mask to the ropes and started climbing. Relampago tried to unmask and hand his mask to Hijo de Dos so Dos could slip out of his tied mask and use Relampago’s to chase, but the tecnicos didn’t pull it off fast enough and Demon Clown got the briefcase of a 50000 pesos ($3815 US). After all that, Demon Clown wants a title match with Hijo de Dos Caras.

The description of the main event ran 209 words. Counts were put in so people could be removed from the match without having to lay around, lumberjacks there because they had a cool idea for a spot (and they needed more help for the countout), but there’s insane amount of stuff going in that match. There’s a decent chance I’m paying to see a big Demon Clown/Hijo de Dos Caras match in the very near future, what a world.

IWRG youngster booking in a nutshell: Dragon Celestial, Metatron and Imposible all win recent feuds, now lose to two rudos who are never here (and one guy replacing someone who is also never here.) I am interested in these guys anyway, but most fans need people to get consistent wins to care.

This week’s MLW Radio mentioned their will be rehearsals for the Lucha Underground tapings this week. I’ve heard that will start on Tuesday – and most, if not all of the US based talent hadn’t actually signed a contract as recently as this weekend because of the issues with the (many) previous ones which have been offered. On that podcast, Konnan touched on those issues, but it seemed like he had worked it out for his own deal, felt the US guys were getting paid much better and had to understand Lucha Underground would come first, but the Hollywood guys would make it right for everyone in the end. They’ve got a day and things like this get done at the last second when they need to be done.

That rehearsal schedule means the five AAA wrestlers (Demon, Fenix, Pentagon Jr., Sexy Star, Drago) aren’t just going to be missing some weekends, but are pretty much full time in Los Angeles and not going to be around much in Mexico. (Maybe Chessman can finish that feud with Alan Stone while he’s killing time waiting for the Demon match!) Konnan also said those would be the only five to get a lot of screen time – they’re the five who’ve been given characters – but others may show up for cameos and they may switch around which five will be on the show next season. (They’re doing seasons, but it also seemed implied they’re only doing five AAA spots a year. (Six, actually – Konnan says he’ll be an onscreen speaking role sounding a lot like his current Mexico one.)

Konnan also mentioned they’d like to be able to put Alberto del Rio in the crowd even if legally allowed, and suggested WWE will not be enforcing their 90 day no compete on Del Rio (so it’d just be the one year US ban that would be holding things up.)

Laredo Kid has been added to the next WWL show. That show is on 10/18, one of the Lucha Underground taping dates. Ivelisse Velez is listed on the WWL show as well and said to be offered a Lucha Underground deal. She’d be skipping the WWL show if she worked Lucha Underground (and surely won’t be the only person to  end up not appearing on the WWL based on past history), but that’s kind of the deal – everyone working this has to cancel most of their bookings for the next two months.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and this week’s Poster-Mania.

Super Libre had Draego, Crazy King and Tinieblas Jr. as guests.

5) Diva Salvaje, Kenshi Kabuki, Relámpago vs Canis Lupus, Eterno, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000

Eterno/Kenshi feud continues? Wonder who the neutrals will go with int he battle of IWRG invaders. Insolito’s popped up in Neza in July.

CMLL (SUN) 09/07/2014 Arena Coliseo
1) Magnus & Soberano Jr. vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Black Panther, Sensei, Starman vs Cancerbero, Nitro, Raziel
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Tritón vs Okumura, Skándalo, Virus
4) Pequeño Olímpico © vs Astral [CMLL MINI]
Pequeno Olimpico’s 5th title match.
5) Blue Panther, Super Porky, Titán vs Kráneo, Pólvora, Shocker
6) Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada, Valiente vs Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto

More Azul/Euforia in the main event. I hope they’re saving Euforia’s big title match win over Diamante Azul for a show I’ll be at. I don’t think that’s what is actually happening.

First Pequeno Olimpico title match in 17 months. I guess I should be happy they’ve actually bothered (or gotten over what weird grudge CMLL clearly has with the Dragoncito/Olimpico/Pierrothito crew), but – do you know the last person Pequeno Olimpico defended his title against? Astral. (April 9, 2013) Do you know the second to last person Pequeno Olimpico defended his title against? Astral. (February 25, 2013.) You have to go back 29 months to find someone else getting a title shot, so I’m not giving too much credit for effort. Not sure Astral is any better champion but it would at least be possible for different matches to happen. (Don’t think a title chance is happening.)

CMLL (SUN) 09/07/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Índigo vs Furia Nazi
2) El Divino vs Acertijo
3) Brillante & Virgo vs Demonio Maya & Demonio Rojo
4) Omar Brunetti & Smaker vs Mr. Águila & Sádico
5) Exterminador vs Maléfico [hair
6) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Gallo vs Cavernario & Terrible and Ángel de Oro & Stuka Jr. and Pierroth & Sagrado

Billed as a triple main event, so card order is subject to change.

Exterminador beat Malefico’s friend Evola in a hair match in June and lost to Malefico in a title match last week. The last time Malefico won a known hair match was 2006. Exterminador’s a favorite but it’s a Guadalajara local vs local match, there are no certainties.

2 thoughts to “Lucha Underground, Astral gets a title shot, Euforia/Diamante Azul”

  1. So does this mean Ivelisse is going to give up her spot with Shine Wrestling and forfeit the Shine Championship?

  2. Good thing there’s time for Lucha Underground to be canceled, LOL. The contracts are said to be too limiting, and for what they are paying, no wonder very few are joining in. The more names that are mentioned, the more meh it sounds. I think they’ll use the AAA guys during the weekend, then use them thru the weekdays for promotion shoots, stuff to be used in the intro, the website, etc. Work the following weekend, then will be back in Mexico, Two weeks later, another group should be going, since it doesn’t really makes sense to have only 5 guys during 25 episodes (if it last that long),

Speaking of tv shows, Atlantis was in “El Hormiguero Mx” night talk show last week, the show got 5.7 rating, slightly ahead the show that had Cesareo and Rosa M (5.6 rating) and way over the one with Batista (5.0, one of the lowest rated shows so far). Top rated shows are the debut and the one with the Mx Soccer team manager which scored 6.7 and Dr Wagner Jr’s which got a 6.6 rating…
