La Sombra advances to the 08/29 final, facing the winner of next week’s Block.
12) La Sombra b Shocker [CMLL Universal, semifinal
13) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone DQ Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
UG distracted the referee to set up a Gran Guerrero foul, but Tirantes turned around and saw it anyway for the DQ.

Sombra was the favorite going in, and now has a chance to be the first two time winner. Main event finish seems odd. Show seemed to go long; not sure if much more than the Universal tournament will air.

El Rey says they’ll be making an announcement about their lucha libre show on Monday. Taping location? Schedule change?

Jack Evans says he won’t be part of AAA USA.

CMLL and ChilangaMask are back working together. ChilangaMask is working directly with CMLL this time (instead of Arkangel as middleman.)

Rob posted highlights of 05/23/14 CMLL.

LV has reviews of 05/13/14 CMLL and 05/16/14 CMLL.

Octagon was falsely advertised on a show.

Sagrado talks about his start in lucha libre (still going with the Fray Tormenta story, plus some jealously of Mistico.)

Martha Villalobos, Lady Apache and Rossy Moreno held a press conference to talk about upcoming benefit shows for Ringo Mendoza and Pantera Surena.

There’s a new lucha libre restaurant in Monterry.

Lineup

1) Eléctrico & Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
2) Dark Angel, La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, La Seductora
3) Blue Panther, Fuego, Rey Cometa vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Terrible
4) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Máximo vs Cavernario, Euforia, Mephisto
5) Volador Jr. vs Último GuerreroDiamante AzulMr. NieblaTitánNiebla RojaDragón Rojo Jr.Virus [CMLL Universal, semifinal
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión, Shocker

CMLL has two main events (on shows when they’re actually trying): Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis in trios, and Ingobernables versus Shocker/Negro Casas/whoever. This main event should be leading into another tag title match – Sombra did beat both champions back to back last night – but who knows.

Sombra versus Virus and Sombra versus Titan would be very exciting in different ways, and Volador and Dragon Rojo advancing could set up different matches for the anniversary show. El jefe Ultimo Guerrero still sticks out as a very likely winner.

  1. I wonder which matches will make Azteca America in two weeks?

    Sucks about Jack Evans

Interesting tweet from El Rey and its coming the day after Mania. Chris Dejoseph also heading to Triplemania.

Speaking of Chris, one of his tweets said he assemble the wrestling avengers. Sounds more like Chikara than AAA. Should be fun either way.

  2. One day Lakersfan needs to reveal what his job in AAA is.

Chris DeJoseph working for AAA USA and Jack Evans not working for AAA USA pretty much sums up how well we can all expect the project to go.

  3. Dragon Rojo kinda sticks out as winner of Block B to me. CMLL is obviously pretty high on the guy, and he just turned tecnico. Winning this block with a win in the final over UG would make him look like a strong opponent for Sombra the following week.

The only problem with a Rojo win is that means a pretty high profile loss for UG in the build towards the apuesta w/ Atlantis – which seems counterproductive (in the block final, or in the final against Sombra). Maybe this is where we start seeing the Gran Guerrero “switch”, as UG muscles his way to winning the tournament? Then gets caught at Anniversario, and Atlantis takes his mask?

  4. I’m with Nikita here. I see a Sombra/Dragon Rojo final as my suspicion is the semi-main for the Anniversary will be Sombra/Volador vs Dragon Rojo/Escorpion in a Relevos Suicidas match.

Last year CMLL had Volador Jr. distract Sombra on the ramp leading to Tanahashi beating him. I could see the same deal this year with Atlantis distracting Ultimo Guerrero so Dragon Rojo gets a roll-up win.
