Hijo de Mascara defeats Hijo de Dos (sort of), TripleMania

IWRG (SUN) 08/10/2014 Arena Naucapan [The Gladiatores]
1) Black Niko & Sky Ángel b Kaling Black & Matrix Jr.
Matrix Jr. & Kaling Black replaced Atomic Star & Hijo de la Bestia.
2) Hip Hop Man, Rayan, Spartan b Dragón Celestial, Freyser, Metaleon
Freyser replaces Latigo.
3) Imposible © b Emperador Azteca [IWRG IC Light]
Imposible is champion and kept it by taking falls 2/3. Fourth defense. Emperador pretended to congratulate Imposible, but then attacked him and vowed to take his mask.
4) Pantera, Relámpago, Toscano b Cien Caras Jr., Universo 2000 Jr., Veneno
Veneno reluctantly replaced X-Fly, working as a tecnico on the wrong side. Tecnicos took 1/3, Toscano beating Veneno.
5) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 © COR Hijo De Dos Caras [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Seconds were Pantera and Universo 2000 Jr. Dos took fall 1, Mascara took fall 2. Cien Caras Jr., Mascara’s second, started interfering in the third fall. Pantera, Dos’s second, started brawling with him. That allowed Universo 2000 Jr. to sneak in and foul Dos while he and Mascara were fighting on the outside. Mascara made it back in, Dos did not, and Mascara kept the title. Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 fourth defense.

Hijo de Dos Caras isn’t losing in the ring? Can’t wait for Alberto to get here.

AAA’s TV this weekend was interesting in what wasn’t shown. TripleMania is only six days away, and there’s been zero on screen mentions of the Myzteziz, Dr. Wagner Jr., Cibernetico, Perro Aguayo Jr. four way match. That looks to be the biggest drawing match on the show on paper and you would not know it’s happening if you only followed AAA on TV. It’s appeared AAA produced weeks of TV from Ecatepec at the same time and also appeared a did not have a full TripleMania card to promote as recently as two weeks ago.

Even if AAA was late to figure out the card, they had to know they’d have a press conference about the show by last week. They could’ve replaced some empty space in the show* to show highlights from the press conference or just something as simple as someone putting up a graphic for the card. Instead, the first time AAA’s TV will promote a four way featuring four of the biggest stars of the last decade will be one day before TripleMania takes place.

(* – It was an AAA three match show, so there was plenty of empty space. Those entrances kill me. Protip: best time during TripleMania to make a run for food is the relevos AAA or the Cruiserweight ten way, because both will take 10 minutes to get started.)

Let me turn this discussion on it’s head and defend AAA for a second. (!!!!!!) The TV build really has totally been about Psycho Clown and Texano Jr. Only that match and the Taya/Faby match have been built up on TV, and the Taya/Faby one is more a midcard feud (though one they’ve done well with given it’s role.) Others feuds continue on TripleMania, but you wouldn’t be certain about them if you only followed TV – the big TripleMania video package teases both a Suicide/Pentagon mask match and Psicosis appearing, neither of which is happening. There are other ways for AAA to reach potential fans – they’re doing a lot of media in the lead up to the show and so those other matches will get hyped there – but if follow AAA by only watching the TV show, the only big match on TripleMania is Psychlo Clown versus Texano Jr.

I’ve been skeptical (to underplay it) of AAA’s ability/interest in creating new stars, but they’ve backed their way into proviing it. Texano/Psycho might have been intensely boring for the long stretches but TripleMania drawing 20,000 fans would be a pretty good indication that it worked. The TripleMania name in Mexico is very strong and that would still be the #1 draw for this show, but those two young guys would be #2. If this works out, it’s a credit to those two guys and to those who trusted them with that position.

On the other hand, Perro Aguayo Jr. says the show should be renamed PerroMania because he won last year. A solid point. Perro’s also not thrilled about Wagner being there but promises he has a surprise (as always.)

Polvora defeated Dragon Rojo last night in Guadalajara. It’s blurry, but there doesn’t appear to be any other results on the rest of the article. CMLL is back to posting Guadalajara reports on it’s website, so it may turn up eventually.

Sombra faces Ultimo Guerrero in the main event in Puebla tonight. Seems like Ultimo Guerrero is going on a hot streak leading into the Anniversary show.

Black Terry Jr. has photos from two days in Tulancingo: a Saturday show with Black Terry and Skayde and an AAA spot show. He’s got video highlights from the later show.

Myzteziz joins Averno and Blue Demon Jr. as being announced for the ColiseoMania show. I assume someone named Coliseo won the last one.

A week after LA Park & Dr. Wagner Jr. had a great match (which did not air) in Arena Coliseo Monterrey, their kids and Silver King Jr. had a poor one in the same building.

Metalico says he’s not retiring from CMLL.

Segunda Caida reviews Hijo del Santo, Rey Misterio Jr, La Parka, Octagon vs Blue Panther, Fuerza Guerrera, Psicosis, Pentagon.

Lucha Libre in Japan

08/10 REINA: Estrellita b La Comandante [MEX WOMEN] – sixth defense.

Lineup

IWRG (WED) 08/13/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Sky Ángel vs Matrix Jr.
2) Dragón Celestial & Seiya vs Electro Boy & Hip Hop Man
3) Emperador Azteca & Relámpago vs Ciclon Black & Tony Rivera
4) Golden Magic © vs Canis Lupus [IWRG IC WELTER]
5) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Metaleon vs Ironía, Spider Boy, Yakuza [captains hair, captains mask, mystery captain]

The last time they did this main event, they put drew the captains names, put them in the envelope and then pulled the names out to reveal who’s hair/mask was on the line at the end. I assume the same thing here. AULL has been pretty dominant in this feud up until now.

4) Esfinge & Exterminador vs Espectrum & Maléfico
5) Lluvia vs Zeuxis

That seems like a fun main event.
