recap

taped 2014-05-13 @ Arena México

hooray I won a primera

Acero & Fantasy vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Violencia: Formula opener. Everyone looked a bit sloppy at times, no one did much interesting. Everyone lived, that’s good. This was boring, that’s not good.

Oro makes sure he gets over, and gets over hard

Metálico, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Disturbio, El Rebelde: Just a setup to finish the Metálico turn; he wasn’t letting Stigma tag Oro out and it didn’t take more than a misaimed dropkick to fully cause him to flip out. Stigma & Oro Jr. sold big for Metalico’s chops at the end. Rebelde was generally good but really bailed out on Stigma’s dive. Disturbio was a highly entertaining personality, especially in reacting to the whole turn.

Brillo Dorada looks good, turns out to be a little long

impactful reverse tope

Estrellita, Marcela, Skadi vs Dalys, La Comandante, Zeuxis: This was going totally fine until the last minute of the match, and then various things started falling out. Not sure what was supposed to happen on the first comeback spot, they did a good job of improvising, and then Skadi knocked herself out on her own dive. Skadi actually looked a lot better than her debut match up until that point. Zeuxis and Marcela matched up some and was good. This was generally a filler trios.

Caverman is crazy, example 142

Cavernario vs Guerrero Negro Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match: This was an interesting bit where Cavernario got to work as a relative técnico and Guerrero Negro Jr. was just setting him up for his big comeback. Both things were interesting and good, but it was a normal match – then they both went insane with that suplex. That was the thing you see teased a million times and done zero because it’s a crazy dangerous thing to see. And now I’ve seen it done once.

heel kick shoutout

Dragon Lee vs Súper Halcón Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match: Lee’s strategy was to go a million miles per hour to cover up for Halcon’s deficiencies. It seemed to work, as this was Halcon’s best match of the tournament because he had to do different stuff to fill all the time. Halcón found a way to work in the dropkick that usually sets up Bala’s tope, I’m not sure why he hasn’t used that more. He also worked a little bit rudo here, which probably wouldn’t work for him normally but was a nice contrast to Dragon Lee for this match. Lee doing the Negro Casas kick combo was nice. Finish didn’t come off as smoothly as with Cachorro – because Halcón isn’t Cachorro, obviously.

Dragon Lee tope con giro

Panther can still do this.

Blue Panther, Fuego, Rey Cometa vs Boby Zavala, Ephesto, Terrible: Okay match with a bunch of people who don’t usually have matches together. Some vary chaotic end of fall sequences – except for the second fall, which purposefully came out of nowhere. Fuego beat the heavyweight champion, give him a title shot! Bobby Zavala looked a little off – nervous? – and his winning hold in the first fall was quite weak.

Ephesto crushes Cometa

errr no

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero: If I still wrote out all the moves, this would write like a good preview for next week’s match but I could not get into it at all. It may have just been my fatigue and next week’s match may be more attractive. They did more than a routine trios match and it did feel like most everything (outside of Delta’s big fail in the third) was executed but I was missing something.

triple Atlantida!
