taped 2014-04-29 @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis: A toned down but effective woman’s tag; this had less errors than usually seen in Arena México, though also less highspots. Zeuxis didn’t get to do anything cool except for the double knee smash to Vaquerita. Zeuxis and Vaquerita did get a long stretch on the mat to start off and had no problems, and the rudas surprisingly won very easily in the third.
Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Stuka Jr. vs Ráfaga, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys: Generic trios match to build up Azul/Rafaga. Those two had no special chemistry, coming off only as a random title defense. Vangellys & Rey Bucanero looked uncoordinated as a unit some times (more early) and more synchronized at other times. La Mascara is still playing generic La Mascara here, which at least meant he wasn’t turning on his partners for the whole match, just offending people who would like him not to wrestle the same match every night.
Mephisto vs Valiente for the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship: Okay title match, especially in the first fall mat wrestling battle, but feel into cliché CMLL title match the territory by the end. The sequences in the first fall was novel, the usual powerbomb with the feet on the ropes and getting cradled going for a leg hold you never do bits were not. They did the cavernaria right where they always do the cavernaria. Valinete looked good, and this was a match for Valiente to look good in since he got to do every single one of his dives, but Mephisto also got to kick of Valiente’s finish twice in successions and those were the only moments where it looked like there might be a title challenge. Really confused at the finish; why have Valiente kick out of the Super Devil’s Wings so you can do another dropkick (that required Valiente to distract himself for a second)? It was an anti-climatic way to end it.
