The usual load of randomness on a DragonMania, plus the required Dragon/Guerrero tease.

Wagner’s first match here since October. Demon Clown’s debut. Tecnicos took 1/3, Pirata and Wagner exchanging falls.

No idea who Demon Clown is. I think they’re still setting up an Imposible title match at some point.

CMLL (SUN) 05/18/2014 Arena México
1) Magnus & Molotov vs Camorra & Zayco
2) Dragon Lee, Metatrón, Star Jr. vs Espanto Jr., Hooligan, Nitro
3) Black Panther, Stigma, Tritón vs Pólvora, Tiger, Virus
4) Fuego vs Felino [lightning]
5) Marco Corleone, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja
6) Máscara Dorada, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush

That’s about as big a tecnico versus “tecnico?” match as CMLL can run, with no build, for not much reason on a Sunday. Mascara Dorada is going to Japan in a week so I guess they might as well do it now is the theory? It should be good. Top four matches will all be good. Zayco/Magnus must continue!

Mascara Dorada

4) Valiente b Vangellys [lightningValiente vs Vangellys in a lightning match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
6:50. Valiente avenged the En Busca de un Idolo result won with a dropkick to the knee and a running splash.
5) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Titán DQ Euforia, Niebla Roja, Terrible Atlantis, Mascara Dorada, Titan vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Terrible, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took 2/3, the last by DQ when Roja pulled Titan’s mask. They had been feuding all match.
6) La Sombra b Rey Escorpión [NWA MIDDLELa Sombra vs Rey Escorpion for the NWA World Middleweight Championship, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
La Sombra is champion. Rey Escorpion won the first with a sit down powerbomb, Sombra took the second with his running double knee smash, and Sombra won the long third fall by escaping Aguijón Mortal and finishing Escorpion with the Shadow Driver. Fourth defense.

Sombra versus Rey Escorpion was good, though not at the level of Sombra versus Dragon Rojo in the same building. It never got to that level of intensity in part because of the flipped characters they’re playing. Sombra’s adapted to the new super confident persona easily, but it only really works in a match when that confidence is pierced. They only got a little bit of that here. I don’t watch a lot of non-CMLL NJPW, but it feels like Sombra is borrowing from Shinsuke Nakamura’s personality, who has gotten this bit to work for him (and maybe in a completely different way than I’ve figured.) Match just seemed like it had three-five more minutes into it when it ended

We’re more than due for another big Titan single match, but the big interest in that feud is to see what Niebla Roja’s got in a long form singles match. He’s gotten a half dozen lightning matches the last year, but the only three fall singles match he’s had was a Sunday Guadalajara non-televised one versus Valiente last October. You’d have to go all the way back to 2008 and a Guerrero Inca versus Semental (!) match in Arena Olimpico Laguna for a three fall match. He’s surely snuck one in on a show we just don’t have a record of, but nothing high profile until now. Niebla Roja seems like he’s pretty good in trios and he and Titan had an insane lightning match last year. He just needs a chance to put it together in a tercera caida.

Magnus versus Zayco might be a real feud. Zayco was hurt in their last match in February, and the CMLL.com recap emphasized a rivalry back then.

CMLL (SUN) 05/11/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara

2) Dr. Frezzer & El Ídolo vs Ángel del Mal & El Yaqui

5) Maléfico & Mr. Águila b Esfinge & Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 2/3.
6) Ephesto & Mephisto b La Máscara & Máximo
Rudos took 1/3 when Mascara and Maximo didn’t get along.

6) Marco Corleone, Titán, Valiente b Dragón Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 2/3.
7) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. b Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 1/3.

Hechicero is in. Cavernario is only in fourth because he hasn’t had his Week 6 match yet. He’ll be between thirty five and fifty five points past four place by time he has Tuesday’s match. The caveman hasn’t officially clinched but it’s unlikely three people will pass him. Guerrero Negro & Super Halcon are unlikely to get enough support be a threat, leaving four people for two top spots:

+00 Star Jr.
-02 Cavernario
-----
-11 Soberano Jr.
-54 Dragon Lee (but with one more match left)

(Again, this is assuming top four advance to something. No one in CMLL has stated this as fact.)

Dragon Lee really needs a win against Super Halcon Jr. to stay in this, especially since it’s tough to pick up judge’s points in matches against Super Halcon Jr. He, and anyone else, could pick up some ground in the internet polling but the points handed out for those results have become more similar as the contest has gone on. That’s the same trend as previous years; it’s easier to pick up 30 points early on than it is to pick up 15 later. (And, don’t forget, the poll will close very early on the last week.)

None of those four face each other the rest of the way. The margins are tight enough that it’ll probably turn on a match outcome, and we might not sure who advances until those final poll numbers are calculated.

CMLL definitely reset the voting totals going into this week; you can go to enbuscadeunidolo.com to register your vote.

Peste Negra defeated Atlantis, Valietne and Mascara Dorada to keep the Mexican Trios Championship in Puebla on Thursday

Last Sunday’s main event in Arena Lopez Mateos set up a Gallego versus Rocky Santana versus Bombero Infernal triangle apuesta match at some future date.

Rossy Moreno defeated Lady Apache in the main event of the outdoor all women’s show.

Today’s AAA show is already up on YouTube.

Tonight is the annual DragonMania show. All tickets are given away by the promotion or the sponsors; you can’t actually buy them, as this Facebook posts warns. I haven’t seen any update on Akebono’s health; I’d assume he’s not coming and they’re just not going to say anything.

El Hijo del Santo was in San Jose Del Cabo, helping the Wildcoast environmental organization campaign against a development project which would endanger a large reef in the area. The president of the group was supposed to speak before a panel deciding on the matter (and who may have already actually decided on the matter), but the president ceded his time to Santo to give the presentation instead. The panel refused to let Hij odel Santo speak, because he was wearing a mask and not using his real name. Hijo del Santo furiously stormed the dias (accidentally knocking over a bystander in the process) and went face to face with the people in charge before being thrown out of the meeting.

99% chance Terra will be a 4 match show unless the lineup is changed. Still no Rush, La Mascara, Negro Casas or Mr. Niebla – perhaps they’ll be back on 05/23. Princesa feud keeps on in the segunda. Mascara Dorada is on the 05/25 NJPW show. This is his last Friday night Arena Mexico match for a while.

Drastick Boy was wrong, the semimain (and everything else) is a non-title match. Wonder if DTU was just told they couldn’t do a title match?

Fourth is Lady Apache’s DTU debut.
