Dark Angel, Marcela, Syuri vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis: Zeuxis spends half the match destroying Syuri: kicks to the face, running knees to the face, middle fall piledriver – and she’s the one who comes out with the facial injury. I guess she got in her receipt in advance? My best guess is it’s the Syuri kick that sets up Dark Angel’s dive. Zeuxis is definitely in pain at that point, but they don’t get a good look of the kick (and maybe it was the dive itself that actually hurt it?) This is an otherwise good and lengthy women’s match with everyone getting their chance to shine. Maybe some of the long first fall time could’ve been distributed elsewhere, but we would’ve missed out on Princesa Blanca mocking Dark Angel’s dance and that would been a loss. Syuri’s best trios match during her trip.
Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Super Porky vs Euforia, Pierroth, Último Guerrero: Brief Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis feuding to set up the post match promo. They included the post match promo, which should not be taken for granted around here, and this match was just an excuse to get to that promo. It wasn’t that much of a match which was overshadowed. Whoever encouraged Pierroth to do a middle rope senton should be ignored. He almost broke his own back on that. Press slam powerbomb wasn’t much better. At least they didn’t have him catch the dive.
Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Kráneo, Mr. Niebla, Ripper: Ripper must still be getting the hang of this whole snake thing – you’re supposed to toss the snake on Volador after the match, not before it! This was a short match where the set up for the over done ramp dives lasted longer than the second fall. Rudos looked surprisingly dominated, if not with the best timing. They did a fair bit of editing, but still left in the slow set up the Kraneo superplex.
Dragon Lee vs Guerrero Negro Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match: a lightning match collection of spots with no really connective tissue. Judges liked this more than I did. Guerrero Negro Jr. got no help from the production crew on his double stomp to the floor; it’s not a great looking spot, but it helps if you can actually see the impact at all. Dragon Lee’s tope is cooler than his German suplexes, and I’m not sure why he did three of them.
Cachorro vs Cavernario in a En Busca de un Idolo match: Good match, maybe the non-Hechicero match in this tournament, and I’m only using that qualifier because I’m not sure. It’s definitely deserving in praise. Cavernario lucked out by getting a well definite character to play, but he makes the most of it by playing into the character in whatever he does. Cachorro is very talented but missing that personality. If he can’t play a Cachorro, he needs to react more to guys who do have something more definable. The wrestling here was really good – they had the highlight spots the judges seem to be looking for, but they put together a flow for the match better then the previous one (though the ending was still abrupt.)
