6) La Sombra b Rey Escorpión [NWA MIDDLELa Sombra vs Rey Escorpion for the NWA World Middleweight Championship, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
La Sombra is champion. Rey Escorpion won the first with a sit down powerbomb, Sombra took the second with his running double knee smash, and Sombra won the long third fall by escaping Aguijón Mortal and finishing Escorpion with the Shadow Driver. Fourth defense.

Sombra versus Rey Escorpion was good, though not at the level of Sombra versus Dragon Rojo in the same building. It never got to that level of intensity in part because of the flipped characters they’re playing. Sombra’s adapted to the new super confident persona easily, but it only really works in a match when that confidence is pierced. They only got a little bit of that here. I don’t watch a lot of non-CMLL NJPW, but it feels like Sombra is borrowing from Shinsuke Nakamura’s personality, who has gotten this bit to work for him (and maybe in a completely different way than I’ve figured.) Match just seemed like it had three-five more minutes into it when it ended

We’re more than due for another big Titan single match, but the big interest in that feud is to see what Niebla Roja’s got in a long form singles match. He’s gotten a half dozen lightning matches the last year, but the only three fall singles match he’s had was a Sunday Guadalajara non-televised one versus Valiente last October. You’d have to go all the way back to 2008 and a Guerrero Inca versus Semental (!) match in Arena Olimpico Laguna for a three fall match. He’s surely snuck one in on a show we just don’t have a record of, but nothing high profile until now. Niebla Roja seems like he’s pretty good in trios and he and Titan had an insane lightning match last year. He just needs a chance to put it together in a tercera caida.

Magnus versus Zayco might be a real feud. Zayco was hurt in their last match in February, and the CMLL.com recap emphasized a rivalry back then.

Toryumon’s DragonMania show was today in Arena Mexico. Ultimo Guerrero won the six way main event and Yoruba lost his hair in the undercard.

IWRG set up a Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 versus Hijo del Pirata Morgan match for the IWRG Juniors championship next week. Looks like the white radio sponsored mat is only a Sunday deal.
