recap

taped 2014-04-16 @ Auditorio Miguel Barragan, San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí

I feel like I’m picking on Taya now but these gifs keep happening

Drago, Faby Apache, Jennifer Blake vs El Apache, Sexy Star, Taya Valkyrie: better mixed tag than the Reyes de Reyes one, easily. The match usually had a good flow, got to it’s point, and wrapped up. There were some issues, like whatever was supposed to happen after Apache slapped everyone, but it was mostly fun. Jennifer and Faby both looked really good, and Drago did a nice job of making his slip on his dive set up work out anyway. Sexy Star has been working very hard of late. Pentagon Jr.’s interference barely mattered – the post match was cut out – and even just the trip looked weird because Faby had to decide she’d rather hit the ropes and run back towards no one in particular rather than do the dive she was setting up for. Taya did not have a good night.

Mexican Powers suplex themselves thru a table

Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Niño Hamburguesa vs Demon Rocker, Machine Rocker, Soul Rocker: With the gringo “Los Angeles de Lucha Libre” trio getting to actually feud with someone starting on the next taping, it looks like the Mexican Powers have taken over the role as midcard técnico who have pointless trios matches. They’re not as good at it. The table spot near the end was especially amateur hour. Enjoyed the stupidity of Crazy Boy taking a dramatic backwards fall to the mat after getting a chair to his face only to hurry back to his feet because he had to take a dropkick next. This match had plenty of chair spots that didn’t make sense as being chair spots except they believed they believed they’d get a bigger reaction with the chair noise. If the idea was that Niño Hamburguesa had to work out, train and lose weight to become a Mexican Power, why do they keep giving him hamburgers? (He’s definitely not losing weight.) There was really no reason for him to being using a straight martinete either (you’re fat, just fall forward and pancake him), but these matches aren’t done using logic

Pentagon’s got this leaping thing scouted

Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans vs Eterno, Pentagón Jr., Steve Pain: This was good, but they’ve had smoother matches and better built matches. They almost started out with their big double teams and it’s tough to take it up from there. Eterno and Pentagon Jr.’s teamwork on Angelico was pretty great (though would’ve been better with a better looking Eterno kick.) Suicide seemed a little off in his aim (or his jumps.) He had some good rudos helping him out, but he also gave Pentagon Jr. a double knee drop to the midsection near the end then hits the ropes on the way down on the finish. Suicide and Pentagon were involved in the finish, but the match itself was more about everyone versus everyone rather than that particular feud.

Fenix rope walking double stomp!

Cibernético, Fénix, La Parka vs Black Warrior, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Jeff Jarrett: Perro Aguayo Jr., randomly feuding with Fenix, was the best Perro Aguayo Jr.’s looked in a while. They put more into them fighting back and forth than anything they did in the match. It seemed to help Fenix, though the finish came off as a total fluke and one where Perro was up and out of the pin at 3.000001. Perro selling shock was good, Fenix attacking Perro in the two seconds before the beatdown was weird, the win being totally ignored within 10 seconds was not good. The Karen/Jeff/Cibernetico slap spot was hilariously screwed up and went nowhere – if ever there was a time to cut to the crowd, that was probably it. Jarrett was better at selling for Cibernético than Warrior and Parka were for each other. Usual five billion things going on after the match again with it all coming off as routine chaos – it wasn’t really clear Karen was meant to be threatening Marisela with the chair, mostly because they didn’t show Marisela (but maybe that’s better if she’s not going to react.) I have no idea why Faby keeps coming out for these segments, or why Jennifer joined her this time. Are they just hanging out closer to the ring then the guys? I dunno.

if you miss, just come back and repeat the spot
