Revolucionarios cheered to a win, Dorada in BOSJ

Sombra/Terra

CMLL (SUN) 05/04/2014 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, LuchaWorldTerra]
1) Molotov & Sensei b Cholo & Zayco
Cholo replaced Ramstein. Zayco twisted his left knee on the salida de bandera in the second fall. He was strechered out and the match ended soon after, straight falls the tecnicos. Announcers quickly said Zayco was OK.
2) Cancerbero, Herodes Jr., Raziel b Black Panther, Hombre Bala Jr., Súper Halcón Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Comandante Pierroth, Sangre Azteca, Virus b Sagrado, Stuka Jr., Tritón
Pierroth replaced Ephesto on Monday. Rudos took 2/3, Pierroth defeat Stuka in a miscarriage of judgement.
4) Fuego b Puma [lightning]
Fuego cradled Puma for the win in 7:00.
5) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja b La Máscara, Titán, Valiente
Rudos took 1/3. La Mascara didn’t get along with his teammates, and was beaten cleanly by La Mascara in the third.
6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión b La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush
Rush replaced Mistico. Marco couldn’t figure out why his partners wanted to fight 3 on 1, but somehow managed not to get turned on by his partners at the end of the match. Revolucionarios worked as tecnicos and took falls 2/3, with Rey Escorpion feuding with Sombra (and Sombra mostly running away.) Challenges followed the match. Rush somehow got Polvora & Dragon Rojo to go backstage and he and Sombra beat up Escorpion much after the match.

Fuego/Puma was the best match on a not strong show.

Despite the catch phrase of “we’re not rudos or tecnicos”, Sombra, Rush and La Mascara are basically rudos for the moment. Everyone who goes up against them (opponents or teammates!) have to be tecnicos as a result. That works okay with the Peste Negra & Shocker, who get designed positive reactions. Los Revolucionarios are much dyed in the wool rudos. That means matches like this have most everyone doing what they’re not good at, and one team more concerned with screwing around than winning. Maybe two months from now either CMLL and the luchadors will have figured out how to make this work or they’ll have forgotten the idea. This is going to be awkward and will produce some lacking matches until they get to that point.

CMLL (SUN) 05/04/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) El Piraña b Reicko
2) Jocker & Satara b El Tapatío & Índigo
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Brillante & William Rock b Demonio Rojo & Infierno
Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Esfinge b Sádico
5) Maléfico, Misterioso Jr., Vangellys b Cachorro, Gallo, León Blanco
Rudos took 1/3, Misterioso and Gallo beating each other for each fall and Misterioso sneaking in a foul in the third.
6) Diamante Azul & Super Porky DQ Ráfaga & Terrible
Tecnicos took 2/3, the last when Rafaga pulled Diamante Azul‘s mask.

Main event is all about the Azul/Terrible heavyweight title match on Tuesday. Arkangel has suddenly disappeared from the Gallo feud, maybe Misterioso is taking her place.

CMLL hasn’t updated Mistico II’s status.

The CMLL focused show in Gimnasio Nuevo Leon and the Sin Cara show in Arena Coliseo Monterrey both seem to drew well today, though short of a full house in both locations. No photos yet of the Santo/Park show in Arena Solidaridad.

Mr. Maldito & Trauma I defeated Trauma II & Platino in the main event of Saturday’s ChilangaMask show in Tijuana. Extreme Tiger beat Rey Horuz in the semimain. That match also had Impulso, who left the match after cutting the top of his head open on a dive gone wrong.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Mascara Dorada was announced for this year’s NJPW Best of Super Juniors, which will run from May 30th to June 8th. This is his second appearance; he finished sixth of the nine in his 2011 group. This year’s tournament has eight wrestler blocks. Dorada’s competition is Alex Koslov, BUSHI, Jushin Lyger, Kushida, Matt Jackson, Ricochet and TAKA Michinoku. My feeling is Kushida and Ricochet are the favorites to advance and everyone else could come out in any particular order. It’s a lot of tag team primary guys who are unlikely to be in line for a title shot, so it’s hard to read where they’d finish in singles competition. Dorada lost some on the last tour, more than you’d expect for someone about to go out on a run. This should produce some good matches whatever the outcome, with the Dorada/Ricochet on 06/04 probably being on of the best of the run.

Flamita defends the Open the Brave Gate championship versus Jimmy Susumu in a few hours. The show will air on iPPV for $25.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 05/11/2014 Arena Colsieo
1) Leono & Magnus vs Akuma & Zayco
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Pegasso, Starman vs Canelo Casas, Disturbio, Ramstein
3) Fuego, Rey Cometa, Tritón vs Kamaitachi, Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura
4) Valiente vs Vangellys [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Titán vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Terrible
6) La Sombra vs Rey Escorpión [NWA MIDDLE]
La Sombra is champion, fourth defense.

Hope Sombra cares about winning next week! Rey Escorpion defends his light heavyweight on Monday and has to cut down to middleweight by Sunday. I guess that’s a lot of running.

3/4/5 look promising. We’re not getting Dorada for very long before he goes away again, so it’s good we’re getting at least one team up with his fellow Guadalajara natives.
