straight falls for the tecnicas. Blanca dropkicked Sugheit, Sugehit tried to steal a pin, Blanca pulled her off the pin and stomped her, Marcela cradled Blanca for the win. Sugheit made friends with the tecnicas after the match.
4) Soberano Jr. b Guerrero Negro Jr. [En Busca de un IdoloSoberano Jr. vs Guerrero Negro Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Dragon Rojo was guest judge, and Shocker returned as regular judge. Guerrero Negro Jr. won with a Buca Storm after a match dominated by Soberano high flying and Guerrero bumps. Guerrero Negro Jr. scored a 9, 9, 9, 6 for a 33. Soberano Jr. scores 9, 8, 7, 5 for a 29.
5) Cachorro b Dragon Lee [En Busca de un IdoloCachorro vs Dragon Lee in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
One of the best match of the tournament, with Cachorro working slight rudo and both looking good. Dragon Lee had the match won with a German suplex, but referee Tigre Hispano ruled Cachorro was slightly off the mat. Lee pulled out a cradle overhead belly to belly bridging suplex for the win. Lee scored 9, 10, 10, 4 for 33, Cachorro scored 9, 10, 8, 8 for 35.
6) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero DQ Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone
Rudos took 1/3, the last when Atlantis knocked off Ultimo Guerrero’s mask for the DQ. Atlantis said that if UG leaves, it’s because he’s scared to actually do the mask match.
7) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Ripper b La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush
Shocker was announced, but replaced by Mr. Niebla on Monday. Jose Luis Feliciano announced on Twitter during the show that Mistico was in a motorcycle accident and would miss the main event. Sombra replaced him. Los Odiosos were DQed for attacking the rudos with a chair and other weapons in the first, won the second, then lost the third when Niebla beat Mascara and Casas beat Rush. This sets up a tag title match.

Dragon Lee’s new move is Kota Ibushi’s Phoenix-Plex. If Ibushi ever came to Mexico for an extended period, everyone would be confused about how many moves he “stole” from other people.

Mistico II will be operated today after breaking bones in his leg in his motorcycle accident. He’s obviously going to be out for an extended period of time, but the exact length is unknown right now. Here in Chicago, a young basketball player named Jay Williams got into a motorcycle accident in 2003, and was never able to play top level basketball again. (Like Mistico, Williams came in to his professional team with high expectations and struggled to reach them before his accident.) Hopefully this is something not nearly as severe – we really don’t know anything besides that Twitter message, and that may be it – and it’s instead something Mistico can recover to his old form, but both athletes relied greatly on their legs a lot. This Mistico is reliant on his ability to fly around and out of the ring, and he would lose a lot if he could no longer show those skills.

Mistico was inconsistently featured by CMLL and not a big part of the main picture. CMLL will definitely lose out on money from selling Mistico to various local promoters, though that might have started to dry up with the ‘real’ Mistico (Sin Cara) back in town. Mistico missing weeks or months would not disrupt any major matches seemingly in the plans for the year. There was one point very early on in 2014 where it seemed like CMLL might be setting up Mephisto versus Mistico, but they’ve long moved away from it. Mistico is the current CMLL Weltereweight Championship. En Busca de un Idolo winners usually get a title shot in their division shortly after winning, so it’s possible CMLL might have done a Mistico versus Cavernario match if the caveman wins this tournament. CMLL’s been more in a hurry to strip luchadors of their championships when it looks like they may not be around for a while, but Mistico may be a special case.

Dark Angel, who’s been touring north east Canada the last couple of weeks, won the new Beauty Slammers championship last night. That all women’s show will air on Highspots sometime in the near future.

LuchaWorld has a recap of this week’s Tercera Caida.

The Misico/Averno tour made a stop in Zacatelgo, Tlaxcala last night.

Lover_Ice says he’s giving up putting lucha libre video on the internet. Thanks for all the work you did!

WMC held a press conference for next weekend’s show.

RCH has returned for a show on May 18th.

CMLL (FRI) 05/09/2014 Arena México
1) Bengala & Flyer vs El Rebelde & Hijo del Signo
2) Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Sugheit vs La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
3) Marco Corleone, Titán, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Mephisto

6) Atlantis, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
7) La Máscara & Rush vs Mr. Niebla & Negro Casas [CMLL TAG]
La Mascara & Rush are champions. First defense.

CMLL video promo.

The rest of the En Busca de un Idolo schedule is (mostly) set

05/13
Guerrero Negro Jr. vs Cavernario
Dragon Lee vs Super Halcon Jr.

05/16 or 05/20 (final week)
Cachorro vs Super Halcon Jr.
Cavernario vs Soberano Jr.
Dragon Lee vs Hechicero
Guerrero Negro vs Star Jr.

05/23 will be some sort of tag or trios with the trainers and the finalists, with the next round starting on 05/30. If it’s a final four, then it would be on 06/06.

Hechicero probably won’t need to show up for the Dragon Lee match, but he will. If this is heading to a final two, the Cavernario/Soberano Jr. match may be a playoff for the second spot. If it’s four advancing, then there’s no obvious head to head battle right now.

Mascara Dorada returns. Tercera is lower than usual for that kind of lineup, which does mean it’s airing on Terra.

A title change is reasonable, but Niebla & Casas already took one group of titles away from La Mascara & Texano.

Bengala is everywhere!

Final DTU poster of the May tour? Ricky Marvin turns up here in the main event among the usual overstuffed matches. Sixth match is being billed as Cerbero Negro’s return to the ring after illness.

  1. Mistico II’s injury also sounds similar to that of Mike Quackenbush, although his was suffered in a match. That was a year ago and Quack said a short time ago that he considers his career over…
