AAA in Minatitlán, En Busca de un Idolo

CMLL (THU) 05/01/2014 Plaza de Toros El Relicario, Puebla, Puebla [R de Rudo]
Attendance: 5000
1) Demus 3:16 & Pequeño Nitro b Astral & Eléctrico
Pequeno Nitro replaced Pierrothito
2) Pegasso & Stigma b Hooligan & Nitro
3) Diamante Azul & La Máscara b Terrible & Vangellys
La Mascara replaced Mascara Dorada.
4) Mistico, Titán, Valiente b Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión
Mistico used a casita on Casas for the win.

5000 comes from the R de Rudo account. Other places had it at 3,500. Attendance guessing is tough, but the bullring seemed pretty full (and tickets were pretty free.) They set up the trios title match (Peste Negra defending against Atlantis, Mistico and Valiente) for next Thursday after the finish.

Tonight’s another episode in this year’s never ending series: “Will Sin Cara Appear On This AAA TV Taping?” AAA tapes in Minatitlán, Veracruz with a main event of Black Warrior, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Psicosis versus Cibernetico, La Parka, a mystery person. AAA’s slightly played up the mystery person aspect, though not nearly as much as they did when Sin Cara first showed up. AAA hasn’t really hinted at anyone in that spot. Averno has said he and Sin Cara are working elsewhere tonight, but we’ve been able to find posters for every other show those two are working this week but not tonight’s show. AAA’s told the WON they won’t be using Sin Cara until they’re sure he’s not under the WWE no-compete and believe that’s not until June, but AAA did use Sin Cara back when he was definitely under contract. So many weird contradictions.

How about another possibility? El Mesias hasn’t been mentioned in a while, but it’s possible he’s back from his February elbow surgery. It’s also possible they weren’t totally sure if he’d be able to return by this point, so they did the mystery person deal and have a random person as backup. Blue Demon Jr. could’ve been another good random choice, but he says he’s signing autographs in Guerrero tonight.

The semimain has a Consejo versus Psycho Clown trios match, the 21st time Texano and Psycho Clown have met in a TV match in the last 12 months. The special is Daga & Steve Pain versus Angelico & Jack Evans. Daga demanded a tag title shot at the last TV taping and it was presumed tonight’s match would be that tag title match, but I’m not sure if that change was actually made. The most interesting match of the night might be the opener, where Pentagon Jr. and Australian Suicide meet in a singles match which might be a preview of a mask match to come.

Tonight’s Terra broadcast starts round 5 of the En Busca de un Idolo with Cachorro/Dragon Lee and Soberano/Guerrero Negro.

Curent En Busca de un Idolo
325 Hechicero
243 Cavernario
237 Soberano Jr.
215 Star Jr.
212 Cachorro
200 Super Halcon Jr.
186 Guerrero Negro Jr.
181 Dragon Lee

Hechicero’s lead is 82 points. The battle is for second, with Cavernario’s lead shrinking because of the disparity in poll results (Cavernario only scored 19 to Soberano’s 33.) Cachorro was given 32 poll points, which I presume is supposed to be around 20 for last week and 12 for this week.

Dragon Lee would be in 5th and not far off first if they didn’t use fan polling. He’s last in the fan polling, getting 127 less points than Hechicero and pretty much stuck in spoiler position now. Both Cachorro and Soberano Jr. need wins to stay up with Cavernario.

The rest of the internet undercard includes a minis match, a midcard trios match (with Rey Cometa, who hasn’t been on TV much of late), and another women’s match with the Ladies del Polanco. Hopefully they’ve spent the week fixing their issues and are friends again. It doesn’t often work like that, though.

CMLL’s off internet matches will continue building up the Negro Casas & Mr. Niebla versus La Mascara & Rush tag title match, as well as the Los Odiosos generally not getting along with anyone but themselves.

Toscano has been presumed to be the mystery man on Sunday’s AAA TV taping, but he’s listed on a poster as working in Vercruz that day. (He could just not show up.)

LuchaWorld has a recap of this past week’s En Busca de un Idolo matches.

Rob has highlights of 02/09/14 AAA.

Arena el Angel canceled it’s LA Park/Wagner main evented show, will have a one featuring local luchadors on Sunday instead.

Segunda Caida watches Atlantis, Shocker, Valiente vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
