CMLL (FRI) 03/14/2014 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Terra]
1) Kamaitachi, Raziel, Shigeo Okumura b Pegasso, Starman, Tritón
Rudos took 1/3, the first by DQ when Kamaitachi’s mask accidentally fell off from a Starman snap mare.
2) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Marcela DQ Dalys, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
Tecnicos took 2/3, both by DQ. Second fall ended by excessive violence. In the third, Dalys beat Estrellita (with a poor scorpion), Marcela beat Dalys clean, and Marcela had Blanca beat but Dalys ran in to attack her.
3) Blue Panther & Diamante Azul b Atlantis, Delta, Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr., Super Porky [natl pi,seeding battle royal]
All tecnico members of their teams (maybe last week was all rudos?)
4) Atlantis & Euforia b Niebla Roja & Stuka Jr. [natl pi, 8f]
Mr. Niebla had originally been announced, but Euforia replaced him.
5) Marco Corleone & Terrible b Máscara Dorada & Mephisto [natl pi, 8f]
6) Blue Panther & Negro Casas b Delta & Mr. Águila [natl pi, 8f]
7) Diamante Azul & Rey Bucanero b Kráneo & Super Porky [natl pi, 8f]
8) Atlantis & Euforia b Marco Corleone & Terrible [natl pi, quarterfinal]
9) Diamante Azul & Rey Bucanero b Blue Panther & Negro Casas [natl pi, quarterfinal]
10) Atlantis & Euforia b Diamante Azul & Rey Bucanero [natl pi, semifinal]
Atlantis & Euforia advance to face Maximo & Rey Escorpion (who appeared on the show to promote the final and to not get along.)
11) Averno, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b La Sombra, Valiente, Volador Jr.
Ultimo Guerrero was presented with Copa Bobby Bonales before the tournament. Volador replaced Mistico; no reason was given, but this became the first time Sombra & Volador were on the same side after their turn. Rudos took 1/3, the last after Volador kicked Sombra by accident to set up UG’s win. Volador and Sombra agreed to a hair versus mask match, right there right then, but the commissioner told them no.

Where was Mistico? CMLL didn’t bother coming up with a cover story. Injured? Double booked (as he is on Sunday, where’s he advertised for Acapulco & Neza at the same time)? Something else? Sin Cara had a theory: he wrote “Mistico La Nueva Era was drunk” on Twitter, then deleted it. I don’t really trust what Sin Cara says about himself, much less people he doesn’t seem to always like. It’s more interesting Sin Cara would think this was a good thing to put on Twitter, for as brief as it was on there.

Sombra went on social media to declare he never wants to team with Volador again. He won’t, for a whole six days. (Sombra was surprised to find they were teaming again on Friday, which is a bit incredible.)

CMLL apparently decided to just not change their booking of this half of the tournament without Mr. Niebla, basically rewarding Euforia for being the best rudo who wasn’t actually supposed to be in this tournament. Could be worse, and could be a good match, but I think Maximo & Rey Escorpion are strongly favored.

Terra only aired two matches last night, but kept the broadcast up long enough to include Ultimo Guerrero winning Copa Bobby Bonales. It was peculiar to do it at that point, since they’ve done it right before that person’s match in previous years, so they probably just wanted to make sure it aired on the stream. Terra cut off the broadcast the night CMLL honored Oro, so I’m kind of hoping they’ve rethought that policy and don’t just have odd priorities. I’m hoping there’s not a tournament any time soon, because these two match shows are beyond annoying.

Marcela recalls she said she’d retire if she lost her hair to Tiffany, and then says she would not retire if she lost her hair to Dallys. Hmmm.

Estrellita wanted to be a surgeon, and is now taking nursing courses.

The city of Leon has passed a law banning children under 14 from attending bullfighting and cockfighting and may be expanded to cover boxing and lucha libre, though there’s critics of it in it’s current form.

NOAH has a notice on Super Crazy & Pesadilla’s tryout, saying luchadors who won this tryout will be coming over at the summer at the earliest. Jinzo (Or Vengador Radioactivo or anyone else) are not mentioned by name, but they have some photos.

CMLL (FRI) 03/21/2014 Arena México
1) Stuka Jr., Super Porky, Titán vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
2) La Sombra, Thunder, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Negro Casas
3) Atlantis & Euforia vs Máximo & Rey Escorpión [natl pi, final]
4) Marcela vs Dalys [hair]
5) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
6) Rush vs Shocker [hair]

Unless they make the semimain a trios title match, I have no idea why it’s the semimain event. (Even if they did, a feud that hasn’t really been acknowledged by the promotion probably shouldn’t be ahead of a hair match and an annual tournament that’s probably setting up a hair match itself.) I also have no idea why the useless Thunder is getting a big show spot over dozens of more useful, valuable and deserving people.

Tickets already went on sale for the show, with the highest ticket at 580 pesos ($rr USD) including Ticketmaster charges.
