Maximo & Rey Escorpion advance, WWL in Xalapa

the worst!

5) Máximo & Rey Escorpión b Pólvora & Rey Cometa [natl pi, 8f]
6) La Sombra & Último Guerrero b Valiente & Vangellys [natl pi, 8f]
7) Averno & Volador Jr. b Ephesto & La Máscara [natl pi, 8f]
Ephesto replaced Dragon Rojo Jr.
8) Máximo & Rey Escorpión b Mistico & Reaper [natl pi, quarterfinal]
9) La Sombra & Último Guerrero b Averno & Volador Jr. [natl pi, quarterfinal]
10) Máximo & Rey Escorpión b La Sombra & Último Guerrero [natl pi, semifinal]
Normally feuding duo Maximo & Rey Escorpion advance to the final, on 03/21.
11) Euforia, Shocker, Terrible b Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Rush
Euforia replaced Niebla earlier in the week. Shocker beat Rush in the first fall with a half crab but would not let go and was DQed. Rush beat Shocker in the second fall but also got DQed for excessive violence. Shocker beat Rush in the third with his feet on the middle rope.

Main event sounds like good build up to the hair match – though I’m not sure if anyone will see it, since tournaments usually occupy the entire hour for CMLL TV. There are plenty of creative ways to solve that, but CMLL TV is anything but creative.

CMLL’s recap doesn’t mention a replacement partner for Mascara and Terra lists it as Mephisto, but the picture they have of the match shows Ephesto in the corner. The CMLL recap is not helpful to you if you’re a fan of Volador, Averno, Valiente or Vangellys. Their participation in this tournament is unmentioned, and matches 6 & 7 don’t even rate pictures. CMLL’s coverage of their own shows has nosedived since the publicity department has taken over the coverage.

I’m not sure how it’s possible, but Comandante Pierroth keeps getting worse.

Terra was terrible as well last night. The sound levels was way too soft to start the show. Just as soon as everyone adjusted their volume up at home, Terra cranked their volume all the way up, just blowing out everyone’s ears. The feed died twice during the opener as they tried to fix the issues. The show abruptly ended after the second match with no warning or sign off. It was very minor league. It’s still great to get free live CMLL via the internet, but the transmissions themselves seem worse than they were a year ago, and long running issues (no one knowing what matches will air, video quality problems from Arena Coliseo and the sound mixing) have never been addressed.

WWL (FRI) 03/07/2014 Arena Xalapa, Xalapa, Veracruz [Black Terry Jr. (flickr)Estrellas del RingLa WagnerMania]
1) Corsario De Fuego, Peligro, Poseidón b Destello Azul, Flayer Boy, Linterna Verde
Peligro beat Linterna Verde.
2) Paloma Rouse DQ Chik Tormenta
DQ for shoving the referee.
3) Eslabon Perdido, Skayde, Vengador Radioactivo b Astro Rey Jr., El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.
Medico & Wagner turned on Astro Rey.
4) Leon Apolo b Cien Caras Jr.X-Fly
No Sabu, so X-Fly was added to this match.
5) Carlito, Chavo Guerrero, Fuerza Guerrera b Juventud Guerrera, Octagón, Ricky Marvin
What was billed as Fuerza/Octagon ended up as a trios, combining the other tag match. Fuerza beat Octagon via foul.
6) Mil Mascaras NC Monster Pain [WWL HEAVY]
Monster Pain is champion. Mil Mascaras, replacing Blue Demon, worked a semifinal! Mil was about to win when Los Mamitos ran in – and somehow this was a no contest and not a DQ.
7) Mr. E & Sexy B b Hijo De Dos Caras & Sicodélico Jr. [WWL TAG]
Los Mamitos are tag champs. Mil Mascaras helped out his nephews, but Sexy B pulled Sicodelico’s mask and covered him for the win.

The big news was the show drew well. Not a sell out, but much better than expected. Odd that the first Octagon vs Fuerza Guerrera match just didn’t happen; Octagon suggests he plans on being an independent for a year in this interview and I could definitely imagine him back in AAA in 2015.

Hijo de Rey Misterio II gave up the gimmick last night; he’s switching to Rey Horus, and someone else will probably end up with the gimmick soon. I don’t know much about the situation, but Rey Horus is good and probably figures he could be working more places if promoters didn’t have to pay the “Hijo de Rey Misterio” premium, some of which isn’t actually going to Rey Horus. On the other hand, some of those promoters – not all, but definitely some – weren’t really concerned with Rey Horus being any good as they were about being able to promote someone who sounded like Rey Misterio Jr. and may not be interested in a Rey Horus. All I know for sure is the Hijo de Rey Misterio idea hasn’t worked out well.

Lucha Libre in Japan
NOAH 03/08: Super Crazy [O] beat XL [X] & Jonah Rock
Pesadilla missed a show with an unspecified injury.

11) La Sombra, Mistico, Valiente vs Averno, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

Main event continues to point towards an added trios title match for H2L, which would be a fourth build up match.

Euforia continues to replace Mr. Niebla, and that may throw a monkey wrench in this tournament. Mr. Niebla & Atlantis would’ve been easy favorites to face Maximo & Rey Escorpion, and Euforia may be planned to be in another match. Mascara Dorada & Mephisto (his obvious partner which CMLL decided to keep secret for no reason), Blue Panther and Negro Casas (magically back just in time to miss the contract signing)  and even Terrible & Marco have reasonable shots at advancing.

One more women’s trios to set up Dallys vs Marcela.

AULL (SAT) 03/15/2014 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Rey Inmortal & Sangre De Lobo vs Galaxy & Zurdog [lightning]
AULL vs IWRG
2) King Dragon & Meta Dragon vs Power Bull & Sky Ángel [lightning]
AULL vs IWRG
3) Caballero Azteca & Euro vs Matrix Jr. & Muerte Infernal [lightning]
AULL vs IWRG
4) Chica Ye-Ye, Mystique, Princesa Ahy Leen vs Bugambilia, Diosa Atenea, Star Fire
5) Cerebro Maligno, Chucho el Roto, Judas el Traidor, Rocky Santana vs Black Terry, Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
AULL vs IWRG
6) Octagón & Yakuza vs Fuerza Guerrera & Sádico and Leviatham & Villano IV and Iron Love & Negro Navarro [Alternativa Alianza]

Early matches are a twist on IWRG’s gym vs gym format. They’re running three tag matches, winner takes the cup, instead of the cibernetico. Like the idea of trying different ways to do this. Octagon working AULL shows already. that main event is kind of positioned like vets & rookies, but the ‘rookies’ have been around way too long to be rookies.
