Coliseo Reynosa to be demolished, AAA TV, #1 spot gets a match, luchadora fan fest

Arena Coliseo Reynosa is closing down. The owners of the 50 year old building don’t want to be owners of the building any more. They offered to sell to the local lucha promoter, but it was out of his price range for a facility which sounds very worn down. (The age of the building seems to be as much an issue as the crowds.) The owners are selling to someone who is going to do something else with the property; the building itself will be demolished. The luchadors are out of work until they can find another building, and the lucha promoter was pulling out the equipment he had put in the building. This is why the show there this past week was canceled. This may have been in the works for a while – Doradafan pointed out a message on the promotion’s Facebook account promoting a recent show as the final show, which I had thought it just meant the final show of 2013 – but it seems like most people were caught off guard.

Coliseo Reynosa had been in pretty regular use; DTU ran there in October and CMLL, AAA and indy wrestlers had been there this year. There are other building in the arena – Arena Juba in Reynosa runs pretty regularly – but this promoter is hoping the local commission will help him find a warehouse or let them use the local university’s gym.

No IWRG show today, since AAA tapes Friday. IWRG used to run FILL shows on most every Tuesday they didn’t have a Friday show, and it’s a bit disappointing they haven’t run one the last couple of weeks.

AAA has uploaded part 3 of their year in review (TripleMania), which won’t premiere nationally until tonight. They’ve also announced this week’s Televisa show will be a two hour show, the same make up for the missing hour Televisa gave them last time they didn’t air.

Mr. Maldito & Arkangel Celestial, who had the #1 spot of 2013 on Tercera Caida’s countdown, will be on the next DTU show. DTU is probably releasing their lineup for that 02/01 show today.

Luna Magica seems to be missing from CMLL. She hasn’t been listed in a match since Christmas, not in CMLL since November, and not in Arena Mexico since the end of September. (I only noticed while re-editing old Terra shows.)  I don’t what the reason is, if there is a reason – her matches were a struggle, but CMLL doesn’t seem to stop booking veterans for that reason and I’d guess she’ll be back if/when other tecnicas spend time in Japan.

Arena Lopez Mateos will host an all women fan fest and lucha libre show on 02/02. They’ll be taking photos and selling merchandise for fans starting at 3pm with the show starting at 6:3opm. The expo might work well; I was impressed by how much merchandise female wrestlers are able to sell at the couple of SHIMMER shows I’ve been at, though I’m not totally sure if that experience carries over to Mexico.

Tercera Caida airs tonight at 8pm (or whenever Ohio State/Penn State college basketball ends). TVCD’s schedule lists another episode at 11pm. It’s listed as new but with the same episode number – congrats on episode 400! – so I’m unsure if it’s repeat or a DTU TV show.

Lucha Libre in Japan

01/13 LEGEND: Gran Hamada & Solar I [O] b Nosawa Rongai & Masada [X]
Solar was supposed to face Tiger Mask I, who he has a history with, but Tiger is still out injured. Those did a backstage interview after the match, with Tiger saying he will still do the match when he’s able to return from injury.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 01/21/2014 Arena Mexico
1) Shockercito & Stukita vs Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico
2) Metatrón, Oro Jr., Robin vs Disturbio, Hijo del Signo, Hooligan
3) Tritón vs Puma [lightning]
4) Blue Panther, Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Vangellys
5) Rey Cometa, Super Porky, Valiente vs Boby Zavala, Pierroth, Terrible
6) La Máscara, Rush, Titán vs Mephisto, Misterioso Jr., Virus

Nuevo Valores, like 20 year pro Misterioso! Oh well, it was a good two week run. National trios champs actually teaming means something’s up, though that would be an even weirder challenging team. Fourth/fifth matches appear the process of a random draw.

CMLL (TUE) 01/21/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino & Sky Kid vs Demonio Rojo & Sádico
2) Fuego, Gallo, Magnus vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Bárbaro Cavernario, Nosferatu
3) Delta, Máximo, Sagrado vs Kráneo, Morphosis, Olímpico
4) Diamante Azul & Shocker vs Euforia & Rey Bucanero
5) Atlantis vs Mr. Niebla

Some of the FantasticaMania names are filtering in on this day of shows, but poor Maximo is the only one who has to take the bus ride to Guadalajara. Atlantis/Niebla everywhere.

  1. Sorry to see the Arena is being demolished. It would be cool if someone could have renovated it so guys and girls would still have a place to wrestle.

  2. To the Freelance Thing , iam pretty sure that the match Freelance vs Neza KId will be his son as Neza Kid! some Shows that i recently went had Freelance on their program but then a guy wrestled as Freelance Jr. and since he was Wrestling with Pantera and Mike Segura iam pretty Sure that Freelance gave the Gimmick Neza Kid to Freelance Jr.In Naucalpan this guy will contnue wrestle as Freelance Jr..ist just an Arena Neza Gimmick .
