Volador defeats Bucanero, Leyenda de Plata, double hair match

CMLL (WED) 01/01/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Évola & Sádico b El Divino & Metatrón
Rudos took 2/3. Divino was hurt in the third fall.
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Silueta b Amapola, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
Tecnicas took 1/3.
3) Acertijo, Arkángel de la Muerte, Disturbio b Javier Cruz Jr., Leo, Tritón
Rudos took 1/3, Disturbio using the ropes to pin Leo while Acertijo fouled Xavier Cruz Jr. to beat him.
4) Averno, Pólvora, Terrible b Blue Panther, Super Porky, Titán
Rudos took 1/3, only losing the second when Averno pulled of Titan’s mask. Averno pinned Titan in the third, then said he’d win the title next week.
5) Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero
Volador took 1/3, the last with the backcracker/frontcrakcer combo

Twitter announced Averno/Titan as happening next Tuesday, but it appears it’s still next Sunday. I think everyone is just thrown off whenever CMLL builds to a show on a different day of the week because it’s so uncommon for them. It probably shouldn’t be.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show is main evented by Negro Casas versus Titan in the block final of the Leyenda de Plata. I’m 90% sure CMLL is doing a Volador versus winner match next week; Volador did an interview about that for the Tactics of War pregame show yesterday, and the CMLL Gaceta preview also mentions it is happening. Tecnico Volador facing the winner means rudo Negro Casas is the favorite tonight, but Titan’s made a career of winning when patterns suggested he would not. There’s no other ongoing issues tonight. Volador will be on hand as part of the semimain, teaming with Dorada & Valiente versus Averno, Mephisto and the returning Ultimo Guerrero. The Terra portion of the card does not look strong, with the familiar tercera of Stuka, Fuego and Guerrero Maya Jr. versus Bobby Zavala, Okumura and Virus the most likely to turn out a good match. The Terra broadcast again will start around 8pm Central Time with the Ras de Lona-replacement interview show, and the matches will start a half hour later.

I’m guessing there’s also a CMLL press conference next week. It’s been a while since they’ve had one, and they usually take place when there’s a lot of news. CMLL has the Leyenda de Plata final, FantasticaMania and apparently a Generacion 2014 to discuss. Dragon Lee, Cachorro, and Black Panther have already debuted. The Star Jr. and Rebelde seen in Puebla also turn up in Guadalajara, so they’re part of the main roster. (Hooligan’s son was using Ultimo Rebelde in la Laguna, so he’s a good bet to be Rebelde.) There’s also a Hechicero debuting in Guadalajara on Tuesday. There’s a Hechicero in Cuernavaca who wrestles in the same groups Canelo Casas had been wrestling in, and there was a Hechicero in CMLL for one match in 2008 and was never seen again.

A few days ago, I mentioned on Twitter I had received a copyright strike violation from YouTube. The luchablog YouTube account can’t be posted to for the next six months because Terra filed copyright claims on six of their videos. Those videos have been automatically deleted from YouTube, and I can’t upload anything more than 15 minutes to that channel. I’m still planning on posting videos going forward and I’m still deciding on how to best deal with it.  I’ve basically decided I’d rather to continue to be on YouTube and will just deal with the extra hassle of uploading videos in two different locations. The Terra videos will move back to the old Daily Motion account (thecubsfan). All the other videos will return to the youtube.com/thecubsfan channel, which recently regained permission to post long videos again. If anyone has a better solution, let me know.

Fantasma del Espacio lost his mask to Eslabon Perdido in Arena Xalapa on 12/29. His name is Giovani Fisher Landa, 5 years a luchador.

Euforia & Ultimo Guerrero are listed on Sunday in Arena Mexico. They’re also listed on Sunday in Arena Coliseo Corona in Gomez Palacio. That’s going to take a transporter.

Porra Fresa reveals Dalys was the luchadora who had the most appearances in Arena Puebla and Kraneo was the most often Invasor. They list Solar, Black Terry and Negro Navarro under the Invasors. That would sure make for a more interesting Invasors vs Volador feud if CMLL did the same.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 01/07/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Esfinge & Metatrón vs Espectrum & Ráfaga
2) Dragon Lee, Star Jr., Starman vs Hechicero, Hooligan, Rebelde
3) Gallo, Smaker, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura
4) Javier Cruz Jr. & Leo vs Acertijo & Disturbio [hair]
5) Atlantis, La Máscara, Máximo vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

The hair match seems like it came out of nowhere (but Distubrio did miss a show that probably was supposed to build to this.) Disturbio and Zavala have taken very different paths since this time last year.

If we guess that Rebelde is teaming with his father, perhaps Star Jr. is doing the same?
