Titan versus gravity

recap

taped 2013-11-26 @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
Sagrado, Starman, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus: A perfectly fine Guadalajara match. Nothing you need to go out of you see, but one of the better Guadalajara matches they’ve aired since coming back – everyone was working hard, and the Cancerberos are really good when they’re working hard. This was more a showcase for them than the técnicos, and they showed off with some good matwork in the first match (Raziel) and neat finish in the third (Cancerbero.)

Máximo, Mistico, Thunder vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: Not good. They tried to limit Thunder to doing almost nothing, and he still seemed to mess that up. Máximo versus Pesta Negra is over familiar and there was nothing remarkable about the Místico stuff. The post match promo – which didn’t air, because CMLL – teased Thunder versus Niebla in a singles match but they clearly don’t even trust him in a trios.

one more time with feeling

Averno vs Titán for the Mexican National Welterweight Championship: EXCELLENT. A strong storytelling match, the rarest possible match in CMLL (but not so rare when Averno’s involved.) Titan looked like a valiant técnico who kept surviving against all odds, but Averno also looked tough. It was a surprise rollup finish that felt like a real surprise (not a spot they did just because they always do that spot), and opened the door for a lot more rematches. The match before it was go-d too, with Titan getting in enough of his regular stuff, but not forcing it all in (no Titanics, no need for it) and Averno breaking up a usual Titan move to turn around the match. Everything they tried worked, and Titan was trying some tricky stuff. Titan may be the best programmed luchador in CMLL this year (Rey Escorpion or Rush might be close) and this helped his continued rise.
