Zavala counter dropkick

recap

taped 2013-11-12 @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
Fuego, Pegasso, Sagrado vs Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Virus: One of the better Guadalajara matches since they started showing them again. They got time, they had a group of guys who knew what they were doing and they were motivated to have a good match (the last part was the most surprising.) Sangre in particular was more into the match than he seems at other times, and everyone was really solid. Finish was a bit off but the action in the third fall which lead up to it was fun.

Dark Angel knee smash

taped 2013-11-17 @ Arena Mexico
Dark Angel vs Dalys in a lightning match: Possibly Dalys’ best match ever? Dark Angel was really good in her return, but they also did a good job of having Dalys doing what she does best (the kicks!) and not doing the stuff she struggles with (a lot of the moves she was doing as a técnica!) Dalys also seems to scream less as a ruda, which is much more palatable. Everything seemed to go well, or at least was afraid to look good while they were working, and the finish came at a good time. This is a match they both should be very happy with.

best & last Brillo Cometa of 2014

Rey Cometa, Super Porky, Thunder vs Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.: Shorter than usual Thunder/Porky match where the more interesting story was the Rey Cometa injury. Cometa was protecting his wrist before he even tagged in for the first time. He’s done his best storytelling job as a luchador ever if CMLL really believes he was hurt in Arena Mexico (though I guess it’s slightly possible he could’ve made it worse on the dive.) It’s too bad because this is an even higher mix of guys than usual for Cometa and the slight Volador/Cometa and Niebla Roja/Cometa matchups seemed very interesting.

almost got ’em

La Sombra, Titán, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: Another short match which didn’t have enough time to develop into much more than then abbreviated version of the usual spots. Even the Averno/Titan issue didn’t get a lot more than the finish, at least in this version of the match. The timing of the finish was good – it was the rare surprise sudden ending which worked.
