Golden Magic wins the IWRG Welterweight title, Arena Mexico preview, Super Parka vs ?

There’s no full results out for the IWRG show, but Golden Magic did beat Canis Lupus to win red belt IWRG IC Welterweight Championship. More tomorrow.

Tonight’s CMLL show is built around Volador’s return to the tecnico side and his feud with Psico Ripper, who appears to just be called “Reapper” now. They’re still doing a snake thing with him, but maybe he should have scythe. The bigger deal here isn’t the match, but the fan’s reaction to him (and if there’s any different in the gate based on newspaper coverage, since TV coverage has been nil.) CMLL might also set up a major show for next week, or they might just have a show next week. Titan versus Polvora, which has been good in the past and is once again a better of welterweight champions, will be the Terra main event.

There was supposed to be a Hijo del Santo vs Super Parka mask vs hair match tonight in Tijuana. That show will still go on and Hijo del Santo will still be there, but just to say hello to the crowd. Super Parka is still putting up (and likely losing) his hair to someone, but the promotion has said they won’t reveal his big surprise his opponent ahead of time. The semimain is LA Park, Rayo de Jalisco vs Hijo del Solitario, Rayo de Jalisco and any one of those could be added to the main event if they’re not bringing someone else in. My hunch is it’s LA Park vs Super Parka. The Tercera Caida crew is out in Tijuana and have another Sunday edition of their show, so some highlights of this show may turn up there.

Perros del Mal recapped the Twitter comments from Psicosis and Konnan on Perros del Mal. Psicosis warns Konnan, out of respect, that he will beat him on Sunday for joining the tecnicos and destroy Perro for mocking him in photos. Konnan says he’s been a friend to Perro since 2008. The bit actually makes me think this is an elaborate act and all the rudos are going to be back on the same page by end of Guerra de Titanes. There has to be at least one rudo turn coming, because the tecnico/rudo sides are very unbalanced with Perro as a tecnico; all the protected guys are on the tecnico side.

Aerostar posted in Twitter that the weather is cold in Tepic. AAA usually doesn’t bring people in who don’t have a role on the show, so he’s probably an injury replacement for someone. Maybe one of his Cadetes? Aerostar says he’s still not booked but just visiting children in the hospital.

I usually run a chat/live results when an AAA major show and a CMLL whatever happen on the same day, but I have no idea if anyone is interested this Sunday for Guerra de Titanes. (I may also be unavailable due to late plans.) Are people looking for live coverage this weekend?

Dragon Rojo Jr. & Niebla Roja built up their tag team match against Hijo de Rey Misterio & Extreme Tiger in Atlanta by talking about how much they don’t trust each other. Tickets run from $50 for VIP to $12 for Children (or 648 Mexican Pesos to 155 Mexican Pesos – mexican lucha libre is so much more expensive in the US.) The group promoting this show on 12/15 says they hope to come back on 02/16 with Guerrero Maya, Fuego, Axel and Hijo del Canek.

Arena Coliseo Acapulco has reopened as a basketball arena. They didn’t tear it down, they just gave it a much needed remodeling and put down a basketball court (so there’s not a lot stopping them from removing the court and putting a lucha libre ring down – except the lack of interest in lucha libre.)

The World Cup draw was announced today. None of the Mexico games will directly run against Arena Mexico shows due to the time difference (Brazil is mostly 3 hours ahead of Mexico, so even evening games are afternoon ones for Mexico City) but they do play on a Friday and a Tuesday.

CMLL Gaceta recaps the latest Rey Escorpion versus Maximo developments. Rey Escorpion lived with Maximo?

Eterno’s now saying his foot injury will keep him out six weeks, down from three months. He’s not getting surgery.

Hijo del Santo writes about how broken down all the wrestlers on the TxT shows are after years of wrestling.

AAA participated in ribbon cutting ceremony for a new playroom for military families.

CMLL luchadors were invited guests at the closing of cinema Salon Mexico.

Porra Fresa previews Monday’s card.

Fuego en el Ring has an interview with a belt maker.

DJ Spectro looks back at Septiembre Negro losing his mask in 1982 and Lou Thesz and the UWA heavyweight championship.

Lucha Libre in Japan

12/05 Dragon Gate: T-Hawk, Eita [O], Flamita b Yamato, BxB Hulk, Cyber Kong [X] [DG TRIANGLE GATE]
That’s their trios titles, and Flamita becomes the first Mexican to win a championship. He and Rocky Lobo have done exceptionally well on this tour – DG obviously wants to the new group to go over strong, but they picked Flamita over using anyone else, which says very good things. Flamita & Rocky are here thru the major show on 12/22. Flamita still might not get to bring his 1/3rd of the title back to Mexico, but he’s surely going back to Dragon Gate again in the future.

12/06 NJPW: Rob Conway [O] & Jax Dane b Tetsuya Naito & La Sombra [X] in the World Tag League
and so another CMLL adventure in a NJPW league ends as they all do – a loss and a mid table finish. They’re technically tied for second now, but will drop farther tomorrow

CMLL Gaceta catches up on Sombra’s trip to NJPW.

12/06 AJPW: Go Shiozaki  & Kento Miyahara [O] b Dark Ozz & Dark Cuervo [X] in the World’s Strongest Tag League
La Secta drop to 2-4, still solidly in 6th and eliminated from advancing. This is surely a better use of their time than being on Guerra de Titanes.

La Comandante is headed back to REINA on 12/22 to challenge for their main title.
