recap

Octagoncito tornillo

taped 2013-10-02 @ Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi
Aerostar, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Black Mamba, Gran Apache, Mini Histeria: Pretty much a técnico exhibition. Rudos exhibited a lot of head slaps and the willingness to keep hitting each other. Aerostar and Octagoncito got in a cool dives and crowd still loves Pimpi (despite some cringe-worthy moments) so it generally got over well but there wasn’t a lot to it. Rudos went out of their way to do nothing, most of not been an accident.

Pentago throws Fenix high in the air, crushes him into the ground

legdrop to Escoria’s bad arm

Axel & Fénix vs Pentagón Jr. & Último Gladiador and Dark Scoria & Dark Spíritu: The other two matches in the secret tournament were single fall matches, so of course this one is an elimination one for no particular reason. And chairs are legal but outside interference requires a distraction. AND they did an injury angle with Escoria and had him advance anyway and the injury angle (x2, since they repeated it with the Perros!) went nowhere so I don’t even know. There was a good match here, but you had to hunt around some other stuff to find it. Axel is so bad, but he was even worse in this. Pentagon and Ultimo Gladiador did everything they could to make Axel look good early and it was for nothing because he was so Dallys-level poor later on. I don’t get it. Match was better in the parts he wasn’t involved, but there just wasn’t enough of those parts. Crowd didn’t get into this as much as you’d think.

Jack near slingshot huracanrana

Jack crushing double knee

Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans vs Carta Brava Jr., Eterno, Steve Pain: Really great match from all involved. Suicide had a much better than his first time out, looking spectacular and not running into any problems. AAA (and Jack & Angelico) are also going out of there way to make sure the new guy doesn’t come off as the lesser third of the team, making sure he gets in his big spots and gets the big win at the end. It’s a great way to get over the newcomer Rudos looked great, as aggressive at offense as they were skilled at working with the técnicos. The rudos created a sense they might actually pull this match off, which is impressive for a team that never wins. A crowd that wasn’t in to the show a lot going into the match was way into it by the end of this. Very much wish Carta Brava was getting to be in the new group with the other two; Juvi’s going to have to be very good to make up for him.

Psycho barricade headscissors

Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Chessman, Silver King, Texano Jr.: Another Consejo/Circus match, now with more bleeding. Can’t believe Psycho lost to Texano on TV the week before his title match. Even cheating, what a strange deflating way to go about things. More of a trios match than the previous match with Texano and Psycho, getting every involved before coming down to the final, but not a match that interested me a much. Crowd was more into this than most anything else.

Terrible beats Rush, Dorada vs Volador, Young Bucks, NWA Mexico

CMLL (TUE) 11/12/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Akuma & Guerrero Negro Jr. b Metatrón & Sensei
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
Tecnicas took 2/3.
4) Rey Cometa b Raziel [lightning]
Cometa won with the 450 splash in 7 minutes.
5) Ángel de Oro, Super Porky, Thunder b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Straight falls. Escorpion used an illegal choke on Porky in the first for a DQ, lost in the second.
6) Kráneo, Olímpico, Volador Jr. b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente
Invasors took 1/3. Volador pinned Mascara Dorada, then challenged for his title.

Thought they were heading for a trios title title match until I read the recap. Dorada and Volador had a really fun lightning match a couple years ago.

CMLL (TUE) 11/12/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Sky Kid & Smaker b Exterminador & Maléfico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito b Mercurio, Pequeño Halcón, Pequeño Olímpico
Pequeno Halcon replaced Pequeno Nitro. Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Virus b Fuego, Pegasso, Sagrado
Rudos took 1/3.
4) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Atlantis, La Sombra, Titán
Rudos took 1/3, UG sneaking a foul on Sombra. This sets up a singles match next week.
5) Terrible b Rush [CMLL HEAVY]
Terrible came in as champ. Rush submitted Terrible, Terrible pinned Rush, and Terrible won clean in the third. Eighth defense.

Rush’s win waits for another day. CMLL taped a heavyweight title match between the two top heavyweights, as they do for all Guadalajara matches, and but of course it won’t air anywhere because CMLL is weird. On the other hand, I’m okay missing Sombra/UG (but that’s another indication Guadalajara is the Tuesday priority.)

ChilangaMask announced they’re bringing in the Young Bucks for their Anniversary show. No date or opponents announced, but their first show (as FCK) was in January last year so guess around then. Matt and Nick Jackson, who are the current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team champions, should be a good fit with whoever they get put against.

Pro Wrestling Revolution announced Blue Demon Jr. has folded NWA Mexico and now is a part owner of PWR with plans to promote under that name in Mexico. There’s no announcement of any specific show to come.

The NWA Mexico seemed to only exist as a substantial promotion in 2008, when they ran Gimansio Juan de la Barrera a few times and Blue Demon Jr. won the NWA heavyweight championship in Centro Banamex (at a non-lucha convention Lucha Libre Expo existed.) The promotion didn’t seem to draw well, ran a few shows in 2009, and then disappeared in 2010 except for a Lucha Libre Expo appearance. It’s popped up a few times since then, but no more meaningful than three dozen other groups who pop up for a show and disappear for months (or just stop promoting their shows.) They started running shows at an Arena NWA in 2011, and it took me months to figure out where Arena NWA actually was located (Ecatepec!) – that’s about how successfully things were for NWA Mexico. The news here is there was actually an announcement at all, because it seemed like it would just fade and be forgotten.

NWA Mexico did appear to develop luchadors who are wrestling in other indies now. Their last known show, 11 months ago, included Ares, Kronoz, Terremoto and other guys who are working the XMW-type shows now. Those guys were regularly on those and identified themselves as NWA Mexico luchadors for at least a time, though I’m unsure how much the promotion meant to them. NWA Mexico will also leave plenty of useless championships behind – the one Casandro has, the one Skyade & Turbo both have but were pretending were different titles, all the new Historic NWA championships CMLL is still using.

Related: In NGX, Kaientai announced the UWO Tag Team Championship, and the Unamericans and defended it twice in one night (with two different teams.)

Apparently there was a newspaper story about people not getting paid on the last RCH show. One of the people involved says the wrestlers did get paid day of the show, but the staff did not because the guy going to the bank for the money disappeared on him. The Facebook post says everyone was paid by the next day.

Hijo del Santo appeared on a non-Tercera Caida TVC show, but they still caught up with him in the parking lot to ask him about the three way match with LA Park & Dr. Wagner, Anibal’s claims of a veto, and his upcoming match versus Super Parka.

LuchaWorld has a recap of Tercera Caida, Black Terry & Perro Aguayo Jr. in a telenovela, and PosterMania.

Today’s the eight anniversary of Eddie Guerrero’s death.

Dr. Wagner Jr. talks his crazy plan to invade CMLL. That’s not happening.

AAA has part three of their interview with Texano & Hijo del Fantasma.

Miguel Fonseca has an article about deceased AAA luchadors.

Bio of Coco Amarillo, which recaps his previous unrecorded mask loss as Indomito.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 11/18/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Águila Egipcia & Bengala vs Akrón & Cholo
2) Asturiano & Bam Bam vs Pierrothito & Saurón
3) Metálico, Pegasso, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Cancerbero, Fuerza Chicana, Raziel
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stigma vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Psicosis
5) La Máscara, Titán, Valiente vs Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla
6) Rush vs Shocker

It’s about as many Puebla luchadors are normal, but more spread out. Might make for the best minis match in some time. Main event will be interesting.

EAW (THU) 11/14/2013 San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora
1) ? vs ??
local wrestlers
2) Galáctico, Galaxi, Lexus vs El Suspenso, Tempestad Guerrera, Voltrón
3) Bello Juan, Chico Che, Sexi Alan vs Rey Maligno, Sstruendo, Urban Boy
4) Dinamico, Genio Del Aire, Iron Boy vs Darko, Ray Silver, Tronx
5) Excalibur, Extreme Tiger, Laredo Kid vs Dluxe, Luminoso, The Rocker
6) Atlantis & Máscara Dorada vs Animaniac & Villano III
7) Máximo, Mistico, Rey Escorpion (CMLL) vs Hijo de Rey Misterio II, Leatherface, Lizmark Jr.

The other cards – Caborca, Mexicali, Hermosillo – have different matchups but the same group of guys. Rey Escorpion is on the tecnico side on all of the shows. Maybe it’s because he’s the home area guy, but they’d be much better off with him on the rudo side. There are always changes, and maybe he’ll end up opposite Mistico and Dorada by the time the matches happen.

RCH, Rush vs Casas/Shocker, Rush vs Terrible

RCH (SUN) 11/10/2013 Rodeo Santa Fe, Tlalnepantla, Estado de Mexico [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), MT]
1) Trauma I & Trauma II b Apolo Estrada Jr. & Impulso
2) Crazy Star (F) & Ludark Shaitan b Anime & Star Fire
3) Dinamic Black, Freelance, Súper Nova b Comando Negro, Puma (CMLL), Tiger
4) Blue Panther & Máximo b Casandro & Villano IV
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & LA Park b Atlantis & Último Guerrero (posted by RINGEXTREMO)
UG dropkicked the ref, Wagner fouled UG, UG pulled Wagner’s mask, Wagner rolled him up anyway. Everyone made challenges post match, with Wagner talking about raising an anti-AAA army and invading Arena Mexico.

New location, and attendance seemed to be down.

CMLL (MON) 11/11/2013 Arena Puebla [El Popular]
1) Artillero, Inquisidor, Súper Comando b Meyer, Tigre Rojo, Tigre Rojo Jr.
Artillero submitted Tigre Rojo Jr.
2) Metatrón, Starman, Súper Halcón Jr. b Camorra, Siki Ozama Jr., Toro Bill Jr.
Starman beat Camorra.
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. b Boby Zavala, Misterioso Jr., Virus
Delta submitted Zavala.
4) Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla b Blue Panther, Diamante Azul, La Sombra
Panther and Averno feuded. Mephisto & Niebla beat Panther & Azul.
5) Shocker DQ Negro Casas and Rush
Worked as a three way match. Shocker & Negro worked together, but Rush still beat Negro for the first elimination. Rush fouled Shocker for the DQ. Shocker wanted a hair match next week. Rush did not respond. It does sound like they’re in a singles match next week.

As expected, the Pirata Morgans won the IWRG trios titles back in Arena Cuatro Caminos.

Today’s CMLL Arena Mexico show is a 2×1 ticket sale (for rows 11 and back.) Attendance has been dire of late on Tuesdays even by dire Tuesday standards; this is an attempt to get people in the door. Main event is the reunited Estetas versus an Invasor trio of Volador, Kraneo and Olimpico.

The big CMLL show of today is actually in Guadalajara, where Rush gets another chance at Terrible and the heavyweight championship. This is there third match – they met for the vacant title, then again earlier this year where Rush gave up the light heavyweight title to get a shot. (This time, Rush just won for a few weeks.) The heavyweight title in CMLL is the least meaningful heavyweight title in any major promotion, but Terrible versus Rush means something, and CMLL had believed it means enough not to give Rush the big title win yet. It’s possible it may finally happen tonight, in Rush’s home area arena.

Esfinge says he’s dedicated his last three and half months to this bodybuilding contest. Apparently the judges decide day of the contest which group (beginner, intermediate, advanced) the luchadors belong in, which is probably why people are so upset about those distinctions after the contest.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and Alfredo recaps the second half of Heroes Inmortales.

Rob has highlights of 04/05/13 CMLL.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of a Black Terry & Perro Aguayo Jr. taping a lucha libre scene for a telenovela. Terry is in the ring wrestling the star (and his stunt double), I’m not sure what Aguayo was doing.

Tercera Caida posted their off camera interview with Dhani Ledesma from Expo Lucha.

Stuka talks about the hurricane relief donations from last month now being delivered to needy people.

AAA has the second part of their interview with Texano Jr. & Hijo del Fantasma.

Dragon Oriental took Black Spartan’s hair. And Misterio Azteca took Perro Callerjero’s hair.

DJ Spectro looks back at Halcon Dorado I  (who promoters wanted to be Hijo del Santo) and Rey Solomon (who was one of the Angel Blanco Juniors).

Cibernetico calls La Secta ungrateful.

Lineups for indy shows on Saturday’s lucha libre expo were announced. The CMLL one is supposed to be announced Thursday now.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 11/17/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Brillante & Explosivo vs El Tapatío & El Yaqui
2) El Divino & Javier Cruz Jr. vs Acertijo & Jocker
3) Halcón de Plata, Sky Kid, Virgo vs Ángel del Mal, Évola, Magnum
4) Black Metal, Gallo, León Blanco vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Exterminador, Maléfico
5) Diamante Azul, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Pierroth, Vangellys

A show! Not a good one, with that rudo side.

11/09-11 lucha videos

En Busca de un Idolo is still repeating the penultimate episode. Sunday Terra aired in HD but had the same buffering issues as previous in Arena Coliseo and a huge percentage of the show went missing. I’m posting the Alta feed, though there may be small gaps there too, just not nearly as bad. There was an emergency broadcasting interrupting during Noches de Coliseo (and they didn’t appear to air all three falls – or I lost track of who was winning.) A power outage cost me the IWL video, but they’ve put it up on the YouTube in the meantime so I didn’t bother with the replay.

11/11 Sobre el Ring: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8ghrnz  – the guest is Comandante Pierroth. They can not ask him about anything before Comandante Pierroth. That leaves them one question they can ask (the name). Somehow this drags on for most of the hour.
