12/08 AAA TV Lineup (Guerra de Titanes)

AAA TV (SUN) 12/08/2013 Auditorio de la Gente, Tepic, Nayarit
***Guerra de Titanes, 2013***
1) Dinastía, Ludxor, Venum vs El Apache, Machine Rocker, Mini Charly Manson
2) Angélico, Fénix, Jack Evans vs Eterno, Pentagón Jr., Steve Pain
3) Pimpinela Escarlata vs Taya Valkyrie, Mamba, Jennifer Blake, Faby Apache, Pasion Kristal, Yuriko, ? [cage, hair]
4) Blue Demon Jr. vs Electroshock [AAA LA]
Blue Demon Jr. is champion. First defense.
5) Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Hijo del Fantasma, Silver King, Texano Jr. [AAA TRIOS]
Psycho Circus are champions. Third defense.
6) Cibernético, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, El Mesías, La Parka vs Daga, Jeff Jarrett, Parka Negra, Psicosis

Air Date: 12/14 & 12/21.

AAA also has a travel/tourism package, so I’d guess the unusual pick of Tepic as a location is because of some greater tourism deal. If you’re going, you’re probably going because you want to check out the city and you also get a TV taping thrown in, not because there’s anything super compelling here.

The main event is the Aguascalientes main event plus Jeff Jarrett & Mesias added to each side. Jeff Jarrett is treated like he’s important by AAA but not as much by the fans. The rest of the match is a repeat, and another instance of AAA pushing off anything meaningful the second half of the year. This is weird – I don’t really want to see La Parka/Parka Negra or Perro/Jarrett but they would understandable be more marketable matches. There’s a good chance the atomicos format could hide more weakness and actually turn out to be the better match, but it’s also not a big main event for a major show.

I would guess Mesias beats Jarrett to balance out his loss to AJ, but it’s Jarrett in AAA so anything is possible.

All the AAA trios title matches in the last 18 months

  • 2012-05-19 Plaza de Toros Belisario Arteaga, Chilpancingo, Guerrero – Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano, Toscano b Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown [AAA TRIOS]
  • 2012-08-19 Centro Banamex – Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano Jr., Toscano b Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown [AAA TRIOS]
  • 2012-09-23 Unidad Deportiva 20 de Noviembre, Campeche – Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano Jr., Toscano [AAA TRIOS]
  • 2013-02-18 Lienzo Charro Ignacio León Ornelas, Irapuato – Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano Jr., Toscano [AAA TRIOS]
  • 2013-03-03 Domo de San Luis, San Luis Potosi – Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Argos, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano [AAA TRIOS]

You’d think the Rockers (remember them?) or La Secta would’ve gotten a shot.

Again, just like Texano & Psycho Clown, this could be an actually good match but the program has gone on way too long and the mere existence of it is a turnoff. They’ve also centered things on Hijo del Tirantes, which means nothing really matters until he starts rejected Psycho Circus possible wins and Tirantes either gets away with it or gets replaced by Piero (probably the latter this time.) Nothing matters until that occurs and that’s not an novel occurrence.

Blue Demon Jr. and Electroshock will attempt to have a super technical match and good luck to them.

The mystery spot in the women/exotico’s match – which may actually turn out to be the final match given they have to set up and tear down a cage – should have been Mary Apache based on the build up. Maybe Dorian got her booked in Japan too. I’d guess it’s now the return of Sexy Star (and she’ll be right back to feuding with Faby Apache in Consejo/Psycho fashion), but it’ll be one of the exoticos who lose their hair.

First two matches both look outstanding; coincidentally or not, they’re both the matches AAA didn’t set up at all and just threw guys out there. They’re also both likely only airing on UTDN. (AAA could run better CMLL style cards than CMLL could run AAA cards.) Pentagon Jr. on the rudo team kind of looks like a replacement for Juvi, but it may just be coincidence since Eterno is still on the team and he’s unlikely due to injury. The trios match works, but the card would’ve seemed a bit more special if they had split into two title matches – Fenix vs Pentagon, Jack/Angelico vs Eterno/Pain. Seven matches, three for titles, would’ve had the look of a more meaningful card. I have almost no problem with the trios, but it’d be helpful for those titles to mean something more often and doing the title matches now wouldn’t prevent them from doing them again later.

Machine Rocker returns against three awesome tecnicos! This is a combination sure to work well.  I am not really excited about this card overall, but those opening matches are much better than I thought we’d get out of Guerra de Titanes. I wish the card was overall stronger for AAA’s own sake – if this draws more than half a house, I’d credit local promotion and the newness of the arena over anything on the card – but they’re giving something to look forward to with the first couple matches.

AAA’s last taping of the year is on 12/14, though it probably won’t air until 2014.

11/23-25 lucha videos

AAA didn’t air this week, but we have the UTDNs for the last couple fo weeks.

Terra Sunday was messed up again, at least for me. I posted it to YouTube as an experiment and have a better plan of dealing with it going forward.

recap

Jack will moonsault off anything

taped 2013-10-18 @ Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo de Puebla
El Elegido, Faby Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Dark Cuervo, Mamba, Mary Apache, Mini Abismo Negro: Okay but not particularly exciting mixed tag match. These have become very familiar, but there was nothing technically wrong with this one. Maybe it’s just the same people too often. I don’t know that the Cuervo/Faby thing is really getting over, but they’re trying hard with it.

killer DDT

Crazy Boy & Joe Lider vs Angélico & Jack Evans and Dark Scoria & Dark Spíritu and Aerostar & Drago for the AAA World Tag Team Championship: Good moments at times, but also questionable moments. Action wasn’t strong enough to totally make up for it’s short comings, but there was still more good than bad. Usual dumbness of people breaking up pins in an elimination match, though I believe the champions were the only ones not to do it. That’s why they’re a winning team! Angelico & Jack were just loved enough to not get totally booed for how they won the tag team titles – the Juvi angle was the priority here (so much that Eterno & Steve Pain probably should’ve also been involved), but the new championship still got their moment in the sun. Aerostar & Drago got a better run than Drago & Fenix at TripleMania.

Well, he cleared the ringpost this time

Psycho Clown vs Texano Jr. for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship: This match did an excellent job of building Psycho Clown versus Tirantes. I think Texano Jr. was also in the match. Seriously, this was yet another match where AAA doesn’t really trust the young guys to get over with the crowd on their own, so they throw in as many shenanigans as possible which end up overwhelming the match. I didn’t like the blood and the chair spots – partly because they came so soon without much of a build to it – but they were generally doing fine with need to turn into the rudo referee show. It didn’t make any sense, as usual. Tirantes was a happily count pinfalls before and AFTER the one he stopped early, it was just the one time he decided to not count because – uh, reasons.

You know, I’ve never seen Psycho Clown and Marufuji in the same place at the same time…

Tirantes not counting three and pulling Piero out and punching him later on go big reactions from the crowd. A lot of the stuff they did got strong reactions, and it’s got to be noted that the crowd way into chanting for Psycho for the match. If the goal is to get reactions from a live crowd, this match worked well. If the goal is to put on something that feels meaningful as a TV show and to get people to watch week to week, this didn’t work well. Tirantes costing Psycho Clown the title will never be touched on again, and it won’t even feel like it should be touched on again because they’ve done the same exact bit so many times that no one’s surprised when it goes absolutely nowhere. No one’s turning back into see where that story is going (having him beat up after the match is the end of it), and no one is turning into see if someone finally beats Texano because Texano is doing nothing to win. Texano can’t even beat Psycho Clown by himself – not directly, not even by the guy organizing the interference. This was not done as if Texano had some great plan come together; Tirantes just apparently decided he was going to be evil this match for no real reason and Texano got a title match win.

one more Jack moonsault

I’m still pretty certain the best Texano title match was on the WWL show no one saw. Match was fine itself , probably better for you if you love blood, but immensely frustrating in context.

1) Imposible b Douki [IWRG IC Light]
Imposible is champion. Second defense.
2) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo b Black Terry, Bombero Infernal, Dr. Cerebro [EdM Trios]
Gringos VIP are champions. First defense. Apolo gave Cerebro a martinete for the win. Cerbero and Apolo challenged each other to a hair match.
3) Trauma I & Trauma II b Oficial AK47 & Oficial Fierro [IWRG IC TAG]
Traumas are champions. Trauma II pinned AK47 after a chair shot. Third defense.
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Fresero Jr., Súper Nova, X-Fly [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Piratas are champions. Fresero replaced Eterno (injury.) Rudos got away with a foul on X-Fly. First defense. Piratas took Super Nova’s mask for good measure.
5) Oficial 911 DQ Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Oficial 911 is champion. Apolo (Mascara) and X-Fly (911) were seconds. Apolo fouled 911 but was caught for the DQ. First defense.

Apolo Estrada and X-Fly kept fighting after their show. Apolo has plenty of people to feud with at once. All the champions kept their championships.

The stolen El Santo photo from the 80 years of lucha libre photo walk has been replaced. The article mentions a Rush photo was previously stolen and replaced.

AAA will have a chat with Perro Aguayo Jr. & Cibernetico tonight at 8pm.

Rob has highlights of 09/22/13 AAA.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 11/28/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Sky Ángel vs Zurdog
2) Emperador Azteca, Látigo, Seiya vs Atomic Star, Electro Boy, Kalim Black
3) Imposible vs Dragón Celestial [IWRG IC Light]
Third defense.
4) Golden Magic, Máscara Púrpura, Toscano vs Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Súper Nova, X-Fly
5) Alan Extreme & Veneno vs Trauma I & Trauma II [IWRG IC TAG]
Traumas are champions. Fourth defense.

I am not entirely sure what’s supposed to be happening with everyone in the main event – the Traumas sure are coming off as the rudos in their feud which makes Alan Extreme the tecnico – but I think we’ll have a clearer idea after htis match.

First match for Purpura here in seven years. I am guessing he’ll do a shooting star press.

Dragon Celestial lost the #1 contenders match, which means he had to wait four whole extra days to get a title shot. Whatever, it’ll be a good match.

Person doing the poster who doesn’t know Electro Boy’s partner is Atomic Star and no one seems to know how Kalim Black is meant to be spelled.

CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico): 2013-11-02

recap

Felino elbow drop

taped 2013-10-25 @ Arena Mexico
Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: by the numbers midcard match. Seemed more of a Peste Negra showcase live, maybe editing made it more balanced. Rudos stood out more, técnicos did just their normal routine where possible. Mascot fighting has been much more rare of late, so that stood out too. Between Negro Casas and Puma, this was quite the match of forgotten Angel de Oro feuds.

QeMonito Suicida

Blue Panther, Máximo, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero: Shorter than usual match with just enough time to get in the the usual spots. Mostly a técnico showcase; rudos were barely in control before the técnicos turned it back around and there wasn’t much here to begin with. Nothing to note.

Blue Panther avalanche tope

La Sombra, Rush, Thunder vs Tama Tonga, Terrible, Vangellys: More build up to Rush versus Tama, who were good against each other. Tama seems better as a rudo this time around (which makes sense give his year.) They’re really trying to get Rush cheered in this feud, which is so weird given his other ongoing feuds and popular reaction. Vangellys got a clean winning pin on Sombra here, a thing that actually happened. I’m not sure when Vangellys getting wins over top guys will stop being weird.

Titan vs Averno, Rush vs Escorpion, Porros vs Macizos, no AAA TV, Cometa injury, Psyco Ripper explains name change

3) Chik Tormenta & Comando Negro b Black Fire & Davinha
Davinha replaced Keira.
4) Black Terry & Centvrión DDQ Paranoiko & Slayer Pack
Terry and Paranoiko were eliminated, but both interfered to help their students and the ref DQed everyone.
5) Jinzo b Kaleth and Ángel del Misterio and Rey Celestial and Pequeno Cobra and Drastik Boy and Black Thunder and Crazy Boy
Jinzo beat Angel del Misterio. Black Thunder replaced Sadico.
6) Negro Navarro & Trauma I b Aeroboy & Violento Jack
Story of the match was the Navarros won but Aeroboy & Violento Jack showed they could wrestler without light tubes.
7) Cíclope & X-Fly b Ángel o Demonio & Ovett
Lots of blood. Porros had the match won, but the rest of Los Macizos ran in to help Ciclope get the win.

DTU announced their final three shows of the year will be 11/30 in Polideportivo Xonaca in Puebla, 12/03 in Arena Aficion (the two shows with Joey Ryan & Roderick Strong) and 12/21 in Arena Lopez Mateos for the DTU 6th Anniversary show (S6eis). Judging from the finish here and the Tercera Caida interview earlier this week, there will probably be a Porros vs Los Macizos match.

1) Molotov & Sensei b Akuma & Zayco
Tecncios took 1/3.
2) Oro Jr., Soberano Jr., Starman b Artillero, Canelo Casas, Súper Comando
Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Fuego, Magnus, Pegasso DQ Boby Zavala, Namajague, Sangre Azteca
Magnus replaced Sagrado. Tecnicos took 1/3, rudos pulling Pegasso’s mask for the DQ.
4) Gran Guerrero b Tritón [lightning]
Gran Guerrero got the win.
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Diamante Azul, Sagrado, Thunder
Rudos took 2/3. Sagrado replaces Super Porky.
6) Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada, Titán b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Straight falls. Rudos ripped up Titan’s mask in the first, then Titan rallied back to beat Mephisto and Averno again. Titan challenged for the title once more, and Averno accepted (though it was unclear when the match would occur.)

I did not watch any of this show, but the main event sounded good and Titan/Averno’s date clearer this evening.

Brazo de Plata rarely misses shows (which is really surprising when you think of his size and likely injuries after a long career.) Could be related to the Brazo show issues, but don’t really know.

CMLL (SUN) 11/24/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) El Yaqui & Relampago Azul b Explosivo & Índigo
Rudos took 2/3.
2) El Hippie I & El Hippie II b Demonio Rojo & Jocker
Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Demonio Maya, Exterminador, Ráfaga b Javier Cruz Jr., León Blanco, Virgo
Javier Cruz Jr. replaced Halcon de Plata. Rudos took 2/3.
4) Black Metal, Leo, Stuka Jr. b Bárbaro Cavernario, Magnum, Maléfico
Stuka replaced Gallo, Barbaro replaced Espectrum. Tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Rush, Súper Popular, Valiente b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Rush replaced Stuka and took falls 1/3 to win the match. Rush beat Rey Escorpion to set up a title match next week.

Rush goes from not even being on the show to being set up for a title match next week. Hmmm.

Pentagon I made an appearance at the show, probably just the usual bit of talking about his life and selling DVDs.

AAA’s TV show did not air this Saturday on GalaTV Mexico. It looked like it was on the schedule at one point, but AAA announced earlier in the afternoon it would not air. There doesn’t appear to be any special reason it didn’t air. AAA did say it would air on the regional broadcast as well as UTDN. This happened last back in August and the UTDN/Regional show was new the week of the pre-emption, then a repeat the following week. It appears the same will happen here, since AAA mentioned Queretaro would start airing next week.

The UTDN version of last week’s show did go up on AAA’s YouTube page yesterday.

Psyco Ripper explains the name is because of the United States of America. He says he still can use the name in Mexico, but AAA has trademarked the character in the US and AAA sued CMLL in the US over Psicosis appearing on their TV shows in the US. (That seems possible but I’m not sure how it would actually work since CMLL itself isn’t in the US. Maybe they could sue the TV companies?) Psyco Ripper changed the parts of his look that are specifically trademarked by AAA and hopes the new look will give him better luck.

Fuego en el Ring talks to Rey Cometa about his injury, saying he’ll be out six weeks. That’s two weeks longer than CMLL Gaceta had said and makes it a closer call for FantasticaMania. He still should make it as long as there’s not another timeline update, but he’ll be missed for a while.

The five way flyers match, Rey Cometa vs Impulso and Belial vs Ricky Marvin all aired on the Tercera Caida ChilangaMask special today.

Video of EAW in Mexicali shows a big building with almost no one in it, to the surprie of no one. I don’t know what exactly the deal is with EAW, but it sure comes off as a front for something shady.

SuperLuchas #514 teases the ends of the Perros del Mal and Hijo del Santo. You know, the Perros del Mal store has been running a couple of sales the last couple of months that look like foreshadowing now.

El Pulpo won Black Machine’s mask in Tijuana. That was the first match on record of anyone named Black Machine in Tijuana (though there was one in Los Angeles.)

Sombra actually got the pinfall today in NJPW, and was way over with the crowd. He was cheered strongly in Tokyo too. I hope he doesn’t get used to this and not want to come back to Arena Mexico.

Rob has highlights of 09/17/13 CMLL and a chokeslam backbreaker spot worth stealing.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 12/01/2013 Arena Coliseo
1) Fantasy & Último Dragoncito vs Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro
2) Dark Angel, Marcela, Silueta vs La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
3) Fuego, Sagrado, Tritón vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Puma, Shigeo Okumura
4) La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Sangre Azteca, Terrible, Vangellys
5) Máximo, Mistico, Thunder vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Averno vs Titán [MEX WELTER]
Averno is champion. Second defense.

Arena Coliseo means no barricade for Titan to be knocked out on. Averno will have to come up with something else evil. Titan is part of FantasticaMania. Averno is not. May mean something here, may not.

Barbaro Cavernario returns in the tercera. Women’s match could be good.
