Lucha Azteca TV show notes

Lucha Azteca is a CMLL show airing matches from the Friday night taping on Azteca America in the US. The show generally will air 2pm CT on Saturdays.

Today’s debut show aired matches from 10/25 Arena Mexico show

  • Blue Panther, Máximo, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
  • Máscara Dorada vs Niebla Roja [lightning]
  • Tama Tonga, Terrible, Vangellys vs La Sombra, Rush, Thunder

It’s close to but not exactly what’s airing on Fox Sports. Lucha Azteca is 42 minutes and Fox Sports can be as long as 50. Azteca subbed in a shorter lightning match for a trios this week to accommodate the shorter time and may have cut a couple minutes from the opener. I’d expect there will be weeks where they just air two matches to fit the time.

Lucha Azteca has network specific introductions, graphics and bumpers, but the match announcing is the same as on Fox and Terra. The show is broadcast in Standard Definition – there are no black bars or aspect ratio messiness.

I’ll be posting these shows as a complete files on Tuesdays. All the matches appear to be ones which I would have already uploaded to YouTube – either from the Terra airing (where they’d be complete and usually in better video quality) or from Fox Sports – so these won’t be up via that channel unless something strange happens.

This is an interesting show if you aren’t or can’t watch the Fox Sports show. It’s not a lot new if you do get it. (Since the crossover of people who can see both shows is about the same amount of people who visit the website, it’s generally a worthwhile show for most people.)

Edit: The show IS in HD – for people who live in El Paso or Los Angeles, the only locations which have HD Azteca America affiliates. Hopefully they bring HD to other places.

CMLL (FRI) 11/08/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Astral & Bam Bam b Pequeño Olímpico & Pierrothito
Tecnicos took 2/3. Astral had his usual up and down match and is in cartoon shape.
2) Dalys, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit b Goya Kong, Marcela, Silueta
Marcela replaced Luna, which meant more Dalys/Marcela. Rudas took 2/3, Blanca beating Marcela for the win.
3) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Felino, Puma, Tiger
Delta & Guerrero Maya wore their newly won Arena Coliseo tag team championships. Tecnicos took 2/3 in a mostly good match. Felino was hurt near the end of the second fall (wrist?) and stayed out of the match until the very end of the third fall. He took the loss to a casita.
4) Máximo b Rey Escorpión [lightning]
Maximo won in 6:01 and asked for a hair match. Escorpion didn’t think Maximo was worthy.
5) La Máscara & Rush DQ Tama Tonga & Terrible [CMLL TAG]
Rush & La Mascara are champions. Moved to semimain. Tama/Terrible took the first fall, champions took the second fall, Mascara beat Terrible, Tama beat Mascara, and Rush faked a foul from Tama for the DQ. Crowd and challengers were very unhappy with Rush. First defense for Mascara & Rush.
6) Atlantis, La Sombra, Shocker DQ Euforia, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
straight falls for the tecnicos, the last when UG pulled Atlantis’ mask for the DQ.

Two straight DQs to end the show. Maximo/Rey Escorpion doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere. Rush versus Tonga it is.

The Felino/Puma/Tiger vs Maya/Delta/Angel de Oro match was the best match of the Terra broadcast. CMLL on 52MX did end up airing the Triton/Gallo/Smaker vs Cats trios match along with the two title matches from last Sunday.

A list of AAA, CMLL independents luchadors planned for the Brazo tribute show. It seems like more AAA names, but that’s because there’s more Brazos in CMLL already. (And they’ve got CMLL luchadors listed under Independents.) Show is scheduled for 11/23.

Super Crazy & Pesdailla did not beat Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 11/14/2013 Arena Naucalpan

4) Golden Magic vs Canis Lupus
5) Trauma I, Trauma II, Veneno vs Alan Extreme, Eterno, Súper Nova

Super Nova returns! Probably. Semimain is non-title. Anubis Black appears to be a trainee who was given a new gimmick.

CMLL (FRI) 11/15/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Molotov vs Disturbio & Espanto Jr.
2) Pegasso, Sagrado, Tritón vs Namajague, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
3) Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Puma, Tiger
4) Titán vs Boby Zavala [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Diamante Azul vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Pierroth
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Negro Casas, Tama Tonga, Terrible

Mascara/Rush vs Tama/Terrible continues in the main event. Titan continues being in all the lightning matches. Namajague still is around. They almost remembered to team up the Cadetes del Espacio. 2/3/4 could all be fun.
