Dorian Roldan announced AJ Styles would be coming to AAA for a title defense this Sunday. Announcing it today means it won’t be mentioned on TV before it happens, though they should still be able to promote at the usual press confernece a few days before a taping (maybe tomorrow? I’d assume that means this was a late arriving deal that needed to happen ASAP (and not at Guerra de Titanes) for whatever reason. The challenger will be determined today.  Not sure if this is supposed to be related to the mystery man in the main event or if that’s just a coincidence.

Arena Coliseo Acapuclo, which was the regular Wednesday night stop for EMLL & CMLL for many years, will be demolished to make room for a basketball arena, according to Estrellas del Ring. Lineups and results from Acapulco always appear to be inconsistent, but CMLL stopped running regular shows sometime in the mid 2000s. Revivals, both by CMLL and by indy groups, never seemed to fill more than 10-20% of the arena, with the most recent show last June. There’s also the problem of it’s age; the arena was built in 1953 and it doesn’t appear to have been well maintained in recent years. This is about the same situation as Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca (which at least got a farewell show.)

There is still regular lucha libre in the city, but in the smaller Unidad Deportivo Acapulco. There’s also an Escuela Antonio Pena in the arena which appears to be loosely affiliated with AAA, but it’s not a city AAA runs regularly itself – last December’s TV taping was the first there in four years. Not clear if there was something that killed the town or if it just always was iffy but people liked working there for the beach.

Aerostar is excited that his plan of forming a new group will come to fruition with Venum & Ludxor on Sunday.

Taya plans on taking Faby Apache’s hair and collecting La Secta’s bounty.

Titan’s newest fan: Dutch opera singer Bastiaan Everink. Titan also says having the support of the fans is critical for him to defeat Mephisto.

Ultimo Guerrero did end up losing the FMLL Champion de Monde title back to Voltron in Guadalajara. Voltron is the much older Ultimo Guerrero of his promotion, by all indications.

  1. Doesn’t IWRG usually run a pretty big show in December? A tag title switch here could lead to an angle for a Traumas apuesta match couldnt it?

  2. @Nikita: IWRG does run a December show, but I’d guess Tony vs Terry is probably more likely (assuming they’re building anything.)

Wagner and the Traumas aren’t losing their masks, but I guess Medico could. I wouldn’t totally rule it out.
