***Heroes Inmortales VII***
1) Cuervo, Mamba, Mary Apache, Mini Abismo Negro b El Elegido, Faby Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata
Official results do not list Mamba & Pimpi, but they’re visible in pictures. Cuervo distracted Faby and Mary beat her. Cuervo cut off part of Faby’s hair and has a bounty on the rest.
2) Fénix b El Mesías and Monsther Clown and Silver King [Copa Antonio Pena, semifinal]
Changed to first block. La Secta caused Mesias to get beat. Fenix beat Silver King for the win.
3) Hijo del Fantasma b OctagónDagaAxelPentagón Jr. [Copa Antonio Pena, semifinal]
Block originally listed a mystery luchador, which was quietly listed to be Blue Demon Jr. Prior to the match, Consejo introduced their newest member – Hijo del Fantasma! Pentagon Jr. was also added to the match for reasons unclear (or at least probably was added, since the final results do not list him; he could’ve just been harassing Octagon.) There was no explanation of why Blue Demon Jr. was listed or why he wasn’t there. Silver King helped Fantasma the match. Fantasma beat Daga to win.
4) La Parka b Parka Negra IIElectroshockMáscara Año 2000 Jr. [Copa Antonio Pena, semifinal]
Mascara and Electroshock were out first. Zorro ‘returned’, and AAA played up that he and Parka Negra were in the same place. (Zorro had been playing the role of Parka Negra, so this was a surprise for people who knew.) Zorro appeared to still be crazy and tossed his cane in, but seemingly to no one in particular. La Parka got it and got the win.
5) Chessman b Cibernético and el Hijo del Perro Aguayo and Psicosis [Copa Antonio Pena, semifinal]
La Secta attacked everyone. Perro & Cibernetico got counted out due to the attack and are now friends again. Chessman beat Psicosis with a spear.
6) Angélico & Jack Evans b Crazy Boy & Joe Lider and Espíritu & Scoria and Aerostar & Drago [AAA TAG]
Espiritu has a new face paint style, while Aerostar had a new outfit. Joe Lider & Crazy Boy are champions. Pentagon Jr. & Ultimo Gladiador were listed on the original poster, but Espiritu & Scoria are apparently in instead after winning a three way in SLP. Juvi accompanied the Mexican Powers to the ring. Mexican Powers beat Drago & Aerostar, Secta lost after Perro & Cibernetico attacked, and Angelico & Jack won when Juvi shoved Lider off the top rope thru a table and hit Crazy Boy with a chair. Juvi revealed a new shirt with “A” apocalypse symbol.
7) Texano Jr. b Psycho Clown [AAA HEAVY]
Psycho wore gold and silver arm sleeves in tribute to El Brazo, while Texano was dressed up like his father when he was part of the Misionerios de la Muerte. Murder and Hijo del Fantasma worked as seconds. Referee issues, near falls and lots of blood. Texano beat Psycho with a powerbomb to keep his title. Texano’s ninth defense.
8) La Parka b FénixHijo del FantasmaChessman [Copa Antonio Pena]
Eliminations went Chessman, Fenix and Fantasma, leaving Parka as the winner when he armbarred Fantasma. Parka was carried around by Cibernetico, Octagon, Mesias and Electroshock, then posed with the Roldans and the Pena urn. Final seemed absurdly quick on Twitter (though the show still finished past 12:30am local.)

El Brazo and Antonio Pena were honored before the show.

Air Date: 10/26 and 11/02, give or take.

Building looks like almost a setup. It seems full on side, but not totally full on the upper regions of the other side. Maybe 300 – 400 short? I am awful at this.

I do not think the main event actually went that quickly; probably some Twitter backlog because it looks longer in the pictures. Not sure if this means Texano/La Parka in a few weeks; it would be a good enough title match for both men but there was nothing hinted in that direction besides the win. Parka winning the tournament was at least the happy show ending move.

There definitely was a big hint towards a La Secta vs AAA Super Team match for Guerra de Titanes. AAA’s had a cage match on that show five of the last six years. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything when it comes to AAA but they pushed La Secta versus Cibernetico/Mesias/Perro strong on this show so it appears to be today’s idea. They’re just one person short, and it probably should be someone who is beatable just so Secta have a believable path to victory.

I do not know if Hijo del Fantasma is going to work as a rudo and in AAA, because both are big adjustments from what he’s been doing. It’s still a worthwhile gamble; staying in CMLL meant wrestling the same guys in the same matches for the next decade and half, because he was out of favor there for whatever reason. He’s actually got a chance to succeed in AAA and that seems worth taking.

There’s some talk about Fantasma joining AAA meaning they’ll get better treatment by the Mexico City lucha libre commission. That would help if AAA’s really taping the El Rey show in the city soon, as mentioned previously.

I don’t know where the Zorro/Parka Negra thing goes, but I hope it makes sense when it gets there. I actually liked the idea of Zorro as Parka Negra, because it’d get a big reaction when they did the reveal – plenty of people on the internet knew, but people in general did not. Who knows, it still may end up that way.

Crazy Boy & Joe Lider being spun off into a feud with Juvi, his oddly Secta/Cibernetico like t-shirt and whoever Juvi ends up partnering with is great. It’s great because Angelico & Jack have the tag team titles and everyone match they have is great. The tag team title seems like something that may get lost in the mix going into the next major show (and then both guys will be pulled into the Rey de Reyes tournament, maybe), but it’s a great match for TV matches and any future multi team match just got better. Really like this.

The thing about building up a Faby Apache hair match for Guerra de Titanes is they did a Faby Apache hair match at Guerra de Titanes (four years ago) and it did not end well. She lost her hair to Sexy Star, but never really lost her hair – just got a new short hair cut and hid it under a cap until the cap fell off a couple weeks later. (If you’re doing the Zorro/Parka Negra bit because you think everyone knows that deal, then you have to assume they know the Faby Apache haircut story too.) Maybe Faby will actually lose her hair this time – I would not bet on it – but AAA’s going to have to work very hard to convince people that she’ll be held to the stipulations this time. Acknowledging it didn’t happen last time is a halfway decent way to start. (Mary vs Faby is still more promising than Taya vs Faby.)

You know what’s weird? Alebrije was among those in the crowd of people standing there for the pre show tributes. AAA doesn’t bring guys to shows unless they have something for them do. I guess he could’ve been on hand as an emergency fill-in (though they had that with Pentagon Jr.) Or he could just live in Puebla and decided to jump in. Or there could’ve been another reason. Can’t think of what that would be, though. Not a clue. (SHHH.)

New CMLL Tag Team Champs in strange main event, same women’s champ

CMLL (FRI) 10/18/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Fuego, Titán, Tritón b Misterioso Jr., Puma, Sangre Azteca
Titan replaced Diamante. Tecnicos took 2/3 in a disappointing match.
2) Ephesto, Tiger, Vangellys b Ángel de Oro, Máximo, Stuka Jr.
Ephesto replaced Terrible. Rudos took 2/3 in an OK match.
3) Marcela b Dallys la Caribeña [CMLL WOMEN]
Marcela is champion. Ninth defense. First fall ended poorly, with Dallys pinning Marcela for three, then ignoring to put on a scorpion for the submission. Marcela took the second and the third with the top rope stomp and Michinoku Driver to keep the title.
4) Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente
Niebla Roja wrestled the first fall in a shirt honoring his late uncle. Rudos took the first with a triple submission. Guerreros take 1/3, UG beating Mistico clean with the Guerrero Special.
5) Rey Escorpión DQ Super Porky [hair, super libre plus]
Escorpion took falls 1/3 (there were falls!), the last when Maximo could no longer stand the beating his father was taking and attacked Escorpion. Zavala seconded Escorpion. CMLL honored El Brazo after the match.
6) Tama Tonga & Terrible b La Máscara & Rush
Tama Tonga & Rey Bucanero were champions making their first defense, but Bucanero is hurt. La Mascara & Rush won the tag team titles by forfeit, and Terrible replaced Bucanero for a non-title match. Terrible and Tonga won, setting up the tag team title match again.

There’s precedent to CMLL’s handling of the tag team titles. Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero’s first title reign (2000-08-04) started the same way, when Emilio Charles was unable to wrestle in a vacant title tournament final. Guerrero & Bucanero were awarded the title, a non-title tag match was held, and the title match was rescheduled for a couple weeks later. There’s also precedent for CMLL handling it the opposite way. Back on 2003-06-20, Los Infernals and champions Familia de Tijuana were to have a national trios title match, only Nicho didn’t show. That was the end of Nicho in CMLL (he’s never been back), but the Infernales were not given the titles – they refused them and they were later put on the line in a tournament.

The bottom line is CMLL did not have to handle the situation as they did last night. They gave the titles to Rush & La Mascara, but they could’ve held them up or done anything they would’ve liked. CMLL advertised a tag team title match and did not deliver a tag team title match. It would’ve been fair play to do the same exact tag title match they’re going to end up doing in two weeks. It also would’ve been fair play to announce Rey Bucanero was out injured and the tag team title match would not be happening; it’s not as though Bucanero tripped over something and hurt his knee an hour before the match. CMLL knew enough in advance to shuffle the card but never stopped advertising the main event. THAT’s fraud.

(Weird enough, it’s portrayed that way in storyline – but they’re blaming it on TRT pulling a trick and not letting anyone know what’s up. Which requires the commission and promotion to be dumb enough not to check on Bucanero & Tonga before the match but somehow go along with Ephesto replacing Terrible.)

If I was in Mexico, I think I would’ve wanted to go this show over the AAA one. Mostly because the Super Libre Plus match was built up well, and maybe it turned out well, but I think I would’ve also ended up regretting my choice by the end of the night.

Recaps of the Super Libre Plus match seem to blame Maximo for costing his father the match, as if maybe Porky still had a chance to make one more comeback if his son had stayed out of it. (And no one seemed to like that finish.) The rules of the match were win by knockout, submission or disqualification – but there was no mention of the ref being able to stop the match. It could’ve been a situation where Porky was just getting destroyed but wouldn’t quit and the ref couldn’t stop it, but it’s not totally clear.

Rey Cometa replaces Hijo del Fantasma in the lightning match on Tuesday, and Stukita replaces Bam Bam in the minis match.

WWE’s show in Mexico City looks like it drew very well. They’re doing the same set up to a Misterio/Sin Cara vs Barrett/Del Rio tag match on each show. Hunico is back, working the undercard.

R de Rudo will have streaming video of a show with a CMLL main event at 7pm today.

Rob has highlights of 08/20/13 CMLL.
