recap

taped 2013-08-30 @ Arena Naucalpan

Hijo del Pirata is generous

Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Niño Hamburguesa vs Carta Brava Jr., Eterno, Hijo de Pirata Morgan: This match wouldn’t have worked at all outside of Arena Naucalpan. This crowd really like Niño Hamburguesa and stuck with the match when he struggled where many other crowd might have turned on the whole thing. This was an OK too long match in front of a very receptive crowd. Rudos got more than I would’ve guessed, though Eterno had to take every single thing as a balance. Crowd did not seem into the IWRG guys at all, which suggests this is not the IWRG crowd showing up for these shows now.

Almost got him right

Angélico & Jack Evans vs Machine Rocker & Soul Rocker and Daga & Psicosis: Definitely had some good moments, but was also had much more iffy moments than I would’ve expected. Spots that have worked good in the past and with these guys just didn’t go that way all the times in this match, and even Daga and Jack looked off against each other in the early portion. Machine worked really well with Jack and Angelico, but the Rockers kind of blew their big flying sit spot. Angelico and Psicosis were straight repeating spots to do them better at one point. This match had definite value, but it felt more like a missed opportunity. This would’ve been better with another chance

Jack Evans

Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Chessman, Pentagón Jr., Texano Jr.: Shorter than usual Psycho Circus/Consejo match, with a better Consejo! Chessman and Pentagon Jr. didn’t really get to add a lot to this match but they were good setting up the técnicos. They pushed the idea of Psycho Clown wanting to get to Texano Jr., but he still is starting to look dumb for settling on beating Pentagon Jr. Crowd was way into the Psycho Circus, as usual.

table 2, Scoria 0

Cibernético, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, El Mesías vs Cuervo, Ozz, Scoria: Sometimes I wonder why AAA uses wood panels, because they look so artificial. They don’t exist in nature unless someone loads them in the back of a truck before the show. It’s very artificial. And then I see AAA use an actual table and fail to break it three times and I’m back to rooting for wood panels. Those things break when they’re supposed to. The table wouldn’t break here, and so the long beatdown of La Secta went about 3 more minutes than it was meant to. It probably should’ve been meant to go at all – La Secta getting thrashed for the first five minutes in their first match post turn did them no good, and neither did the rest of the match. The story told was those three guys, partners forever, were no match to the other three guys but maybe could stay in the match as long as they worked together well. La Secta did get the pin at the end, but only after being chumps for most of the preceding 15 minutes. La Secta needed to come off as threats here, and they came off as the same secondary characters they’ve always been. Even their weak win was not allowed to get a moment to breath – Faby was out immediately to do that angle, as if another Mary Apache versus Faby Apache feud was meant to be the priority here.

5 second summary of how La Secta’s match went
