recap

taped 2013-08-20 @ Arena Mexico

stay out of it, Zavala

Bengala & Sensei vs Akuma & Ramstein: an opener. More professional looking than some of the recent ones. Akuma did less than usual, and looked better than usual. Maybe those things are connected. Everyone else knows what they’re doing and did the usual.

Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Goya Kong vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Tiffany: Dead match, losing all interest during the ruda dominated section. No idea if they didn’t want to do anything or didn’t trust the técnicas with being able to do anything, but it was a drag. Tiffany/Goya feud was not played up and ended pretty decisively with the finish, so plans changed. Estrellita looked great here, mostly with Tiffany, much better than Friday’s match.

Sombra one man comeback.

Delta, Hijo del Fantasma, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura: Disappointedly cold by the numbers match for most of the way, then went crazy for about the last 15 seconds. Better having a good finish than nothing, but it dragged and there was nothing memorable for a twenty minute stretch.

La Sombra, Super Porky, Thunder vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Escorpión: Simple build to the mask match, and not a lot of match itself. Probably for the best with the técnico lineup. The 40 seconds of Sombra versus was pretty good.

Niebla cutter

Dragón Rojo Jr. vs Niebla Roja: Much better match than I would’ve expected. Dragon Rojo is not in great shape still, but he held his own in this match and was able to do much more than expected. Niebla Roja always is good, but he looked like a much more interesting singles luchador in 2013 than I would’ve guessed. He did it while still working a lot of rudo spots, and it’d be really interesting to see what he’d do with a técnico around his size.
