Brillo Cometa

Rey Cometa vs Ephesto in a lightning match: Weird. A lot of turn taking but essentially a Cometa showcase for the middle three minutes, then Ephesto suddenly just does his Move, Cometa kicks out, and Ephesto immediately wins anyway with a submission he never uses. Cometa looked good but still lost; maybe kicking out of Ephesto’s Move (and the hairpull finish?) was supposed to give him some added bonus but it wasn’t like people reacted at all. It was just kind of random. Cometa makes more sense as a winner but this was probably just the hat booking.

Namajague works very hard

Máscara Dorada, Super Porky, Titán vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi: CMLL doesn’t trust Taichi to do anything, so we get matches like this where Super Porky is brought in to do comedy with him (and to get a reaction to the crowd.) The match was slowed down to get them involved and it made for a large stretch of boring time in the third fall. This is a lot more interesting match with, say, Puma and Stuka in there. Dorada & Titan were spectacular when they got going, but the match itself was not great.

springboard apron DDT

La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr.: Straight build up for the Anniversary match with one of the quickest first falls ever (and the second fall wasn’t so long either.) The other four guys just existed to fill time between Sombra/Volador exchanges. That’s probably what they should be doing at this point, but it didn’t leave much for this match. Marco’s dive out of the ring looked good, and that was about the only team he got to show off his repaired knee.
