Pegasso, Starman, Tritón vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Virus: New team loses in it’s debut match is so CMLL. I think it becomes AAA if they never team together again. Still, a lot more fun than the usual (Tuareg) segunda match. Just a situation where these guys have faced each other enough (usually in different combinations) that they can put together a good fast paced match without much trouble and this was one of those. Namajague looked really good here and Triton had one of his good nights. More drama than you’d expect for a match at this spot in the card.

slip ‘n slide armdrag!

La Sombra vs Volador Jr. [IWGP IC]: Excellent. These two have faced each other more often in singles matches the last three years than any two luchadors in a major promotion, and it was starting to turn into a very well done greatest hits performance the last couple of times out. That was not going on here; new ideas, new spots, new ways to almost win the match. Everything looked great, old and new (except the double moonsault of course) and the new stuff was spectacular. The Volador Canadian Destroyer was superb and easily could’ve ended the match without anyone blinking. I loved the sliding to the floor Sombra DDT. It also never felt like guys were just taking turns doing and kicking out, there were sequences leading into the big moves which made them stick out more. They managed to avoid all the usual lucha singles match cliches and really didn’t do that many dives for a lucha main event singles match; this was a bit Japanese style I guess, which may turn off some people. Finish was annoying, not because it was Volador cheating and get caught – he’s Volador, that’s what he does, and he’d been working towards it for most of the third fall – but because I really wanted to see five more minutes. I don’t know what they would’ve had left, but it was pretty great up to that point. Definitely got edited down again, but less intrusively than the Reyes del Aire final.
