CMLL on CadenaTres: 2013-05-18

taped 2013-05-14 @ Arena Mexico

Metatrón & Oro Jr. vs Guerrero Negro Jr. & Zayco: A boring match that turned into a bad one in the third fall. It might have started that way earlier; the spot where the rudos took over looked like a screw up, but one they were able to cover and work with. There were plenty of screwed up spots in the third fall they couldn’t cover up. Metatron looked totally unimpressive, but this wasn’t a strong day for Oro Jr. either.

Metalico Asai Moonsault

Metálico, Soberano Jr., Stigma vs Artillero, Hijo del Signo, Súper Comando: This feud continues to get a split response; Metálico is looking the best and trying the most in years (Asai moonsault!) while Signo has actually looked less interested than in other matches. It shows CMLL should give more guys chances, because you never quite know what you’re going to get. They would’ve been better served putting guys like Starman or Metálico in this version of En Busca de un Idolo just for that reason. Signo’s going to keep getting chances to show himself as something, anything, as long as this feud goes on. It’s hard to have much hope of that happening. The other four guys in this match were good, though maybe that last finish could’ve used some work. Signo was the least interesting guy here.

double stomp of doom

Luna Mágica, Marcela, Silueta vs Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany: They were trying to have a good match, they ended up with an okay one, this is a success for the CMLL women. Similarly, Mima was okay in her return and that means she’s a help to this division. There were some noticeable spots which went wrong and the ruda section went long, but they were working at a faster pace than usual during the third fall. The effort was there, they were just not doing a lot of interesting stuff for big chunks of the match.

strong work by Terrible here

Atlantis, Blue Panther, Titán vs Morphosis, Mr. Águila, Psicosis: Disappointing. Rudos were disinterested in doing anything interesting on offense, and this was a match with a lot of time for them to do stuff. Titan looked like a guy who could use a little more in-ring to knock the rust off and didn’t get enough of it here. Psicosis vs Titan might be a good match, but there was little sign of it here.

this is why you want Valiente on your team

Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger: Every Místico/Dorada/Valiente match (I’d use the name, but it’ll change for more times before I post this) seems like it’s a practice run for a title tournament yet to come, but they’re showing promise as a team. They’re clearly working on spots to do together, if only they can find spots to do together that aren’t just dives. TRT also seemed better here, even if most of what they did was feed themselves to the técnico moves. The three dive sequence on Terrible was odd – Terrible probably wasn’t supposed to catch the first two (or he couldn’t have caught the last), but it involved more crashing and burning then you’d probably like. Fragile Místico took two big falls to the floor in this match.
