recap

taped 2013-04-30 @ Arena Mexico

poor Camaleon

Camaleón & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor: Too many armbars! Everyone needs to work on their arm submission defense, because half the people here are using armbars to win. A little bit more interesting than the average opener here and there; I liked the first fall finish sequence and the técnicos were generally fine.

Stukita!

Astral, Pequeño Halcón, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico: Decent minis match. Differently worked third fall, where the rudos really never had control, kept stopping the técnicos from getting in a run, and then just suddenly decided to win the fall (and did!) Stukita looks more comfortable, even if he’s a bit too comfortable forcing in his finish sequence about 10 seconds after the fall ends. Astral and Mercurio looked good as well.

great tope con giro

Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Valiente vs Namajague, Puma, Virus: Good match. Valiente and Virus were great early on the mat and good to finish it. Puma and Namajague seem like the best of friends when they team, and work well together. Angel de Oro didn’t do the Angel de Oro sequence, AGAIN! Definitely a match helped by the size and enthusiasm of the crowd. They were into the end portions of the match and it made it seem more important than if they had the same bit in front of the usual Tuesday night house.

rough dropkick

Rey Escorpión vs Stuka Jr. for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship: another very good match in a week of many of them, though had just enough to make the list. I enjoyed their work in the first fall as much as the last, the Santo mat spots made it feel more like a title match. They broke out enough stuff to make the match feel important, and turning the tables on Stuka taking the big flip over the ropes to the floor was a nice touch. This was also the rare case where I wanted one near fall less – Rey Escorpion should’ve either beat Stuka right after he missed the splash, or just picked him up for his finish right then, no need for the Stuka small package in between. Still pretty great, and Rey Escorpion is going to be in the arguement for best wrestler of the year at this rate.

a Peste Negra win

La Máscara, La Sombra, Shocker vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: Negro Casas picking an odd time to try to have an actual wrestling match, when his partners and the crowd would prefer comedy. This was not exactly great mix for a Kid’s Day comedy main event, since half the guys were working like it was just every other match. Crowd seemed to have fun still, but more Niebla would’ve been better.
