a few sparse notes

Outside of the result of the main event – Los Piratas winning the trios tournament over the Oficials – no results from last night’s IWRG show as of yet. You can see pictures here.

On this week’s MLW Radio, Konnan’s asked who he would’ve wanted to send to TNA if TNA had it’s act together on visas and he could’ve sent whoever he wanted. He names Fenix, Drago, Daga, Samuray del Sol, Ricky Marvin and Jack Evans.  That’s basically the same list he usually says when asked that sort of question. Based on his mention here and showing up on that Neza lineup, I’d guess Ricky has a deal like LA Park with AAA or Dark Angel with CMLL, where he’s booking his own schedule as first priority but working for AAA when he’s not in demand. There’s also a story about Psicosis, Halloween and others recently choosing to take a freeway instead of the tollway back from a show in Reynosa, and ending up paying a pricey toll due to the local cartel.

CMLL changed the Sunday cards slightly. Olimpico is in for Polvora on Sunday, and Sangre takes Olimpico’s place on Friday.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Dark Angel advanced to the finals of a four woman #1 contenders tournament, but lost to Io Shirai in the final.

CMLL Gaceta’s note on the upcoming CMLL trips to Japan adds Estrellita as the name I couldn’t make out.

Angel Blanco Jr. wants the next title match at Hijo del Santo. It’s either that or a trios match vs La Migra for the next TxT show.

TxT (SAT) 03/23/2013 Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera [Black Terry Jr. (photos)Estrellas del RingThe Gladiatores]
1) Mascarita Sagrada & Tzuki b Lobito & Octagoncito (original)
Octagoncito replaced Rockerito. Tzuki did wrestle. Straight falls.
2) Dinamic Black & Saruman b Alan Extreme & Imposible
Money thrown in, best fight of the night.
3) Angel Blanco Jr. b Rayman [WWA WELTER]
Angel Blanco Jr. kept his title, believed to be third defense.
4) Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Hijo del Solitario DQ Derek Sanders & Shaun Ricker
Moved to the semimain. DQ not specified, appears to be a foul on Wagner.
5) El Hijo Del Santo b Oliver John [CMB LUCHA]
One fall match. Hijo del Santo came in as champion. Santo was seconded by Rayman. Both of Border Patrol wanted to be seconds, but Ricker was sent to the back. Santo won with a small package. Rudos tried to unmask the Santo, but Wagner & Rayman made the save. First defense.

Building looks about half full, but they turned off the lights this time to make it harder to tell. If only someone told that trick to Villano V. No particular match seems to be set up for next time, unless they’re really doing the Mexicans versus the foreigners.

CMLL (SUN) 03/24/2013 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Oro Jr. & Robin b Espanto Jr. & Ramstein
Tecnicos take 1/3. Oro Jr. looked good.
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Hijo del Signo, Skándalo b Hombre Bala Jr., Stigma, Super Halcón Jr.
Rudos took falls 1/3, Signo splashing Hombre Bala Jr.
3) Ephesto, Olímpico, Virus b Delta, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr.
Straight falls. Rudos won the first fall in a usual way, then the second fall ended in less than a minute with a Virus middle rope elbow drop on Guerrero Maya. Maya didn’t seem to be injured on the move, but the finish made no sense unless he could continue. Very confusing.
4) Máscara Dorada b Mephisto [lightning]
Mascara Dorada survived the middle rope Devil’s Wings and beat Mephisto with his springboard flip sunset flip (which desperately needs a name) in 7:42.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Tiger b La Sombra, Shocker, Valiente
Tecnicos took 2/3, Sombra reversing the Dragon Bomb into a ‘rana for the win. Sombra challenged Rojo to a middleweight title vs middleweight title match, but Dragon Rojo refused.
6) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Máximo
Rey Bucanero’s return from injury (though he scheduled it earlier in the day.) Rudos took 2/3, after Comandante kissed Maximo into a Bucanero pin and Volador beat Atlantis. A fan interrupted the post match interview to run up and hug Bucanero. Volador claimed he wants to be in the Atlantis vs Ultimo Guerrero mask match.

CMLL (SUN) 03/24/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) In Memoriam b Índigo
2) Halcón de Plata, Metatrón, Sky Kid b Espectrum, Exterminador, Magnum
Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Azteca de Oro, Black Metal, El Hippie b Acertijo, Demonio Rojo, Sádico
Tecnicos took 2/3, when Sadico faked a foul and Hippie just covered him before the referee figured it out. Those two continue to feud.
4) Rey Cometa DQ Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 2/3, Okumura snuck in a foul on Cometa.
5) Euforia & Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul & La Máscara
Diamante Azul replaced Rush. Rudos took falls 2/3, winning with a combo move.

Alberto del Rio, who previously told people WWE had no plans to come to Mexico any time soon, now says they’ll be back in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City in September. If that happens, CMLL wouldn’t be to thrilled, but they should be fine regardless. Hope they have Alberto cut out the “Hecho en E.E.U.U.!” promos before he comes back to Mexico.

Titan told the SuperLibre show that he expects to be out 3-4 weeks. Later, on the Terra broadcast, JCR said Titan would be out months. I tend to believe Titan.

A DTU post teases a change in image for Tribal. Tribal’s been wrestling more as the unmasked Jinzo the last few months, including on this week’s AAA Fusion show.

Astro de Plata talks about his injury and his rehabilitation. There’s a mention of shows which have been said to benefit him which haven’t worked out that way, but I didn’t catch which ones he meant.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, including a listing of the first Fusion title defense.

Bill has highlights of IWRG 02/09/12.

Rob has highlights of AAA Verano de Escandalo 2004 and 07/20/12 CMLL.

Lucha Libre In Japan

NJPW announced Terrible & Tama Tonga would defend the CMLL Tag Team belts against La Mascara & Valiente on April 7th. This is a rematch of Terrible & Tonga’s sole title defense so far, which was all the match where Terrible showed up a couple minutes late. Hopefully it goes smoother this time. I’d expect Terrible & Tonga to keep the titles. Still no mention of Namajague coming back to NJPW any time soon, so the rumor about him being back in March appears false and he should be considered to be sticking around until we hear otherwise.

REINA announced CMLL luchadoras would return to their promotion on June 29 & 30. Tiffany, Marcela, Goya Kong and Silueta are listed. There’s a name I can’t decipher – maybe Esterllita? Goya is fighting a Nazi of some sort, and Marcela will defend the CMLL women’s championship on 06/30 should she still be champion.

6) Diamante Azul, Mistico, Valiente vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Volador Jr.

Four matches for the Arena Coliseo Anniversary show doesn’t quite make sense, even with a cibernetico. Figure on Sombra/Dragon Rojo happening after all.

1) Brillante vs El Piraña
2) Virgo vs Rey Trueno

Ultimo Guerrero takes Atlantis’ mask, TxT, Maya vs Terry?

CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 03/22/2013 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Bengala & Sensei b Akuma & Taurus
2) Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
Tecnicas took 2/3.
3) Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura DQ Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr.
Namajague tried to get away with wearing his mask. Commission said no, Namajague started wrestling with it anyway, and the tecnicos pulled the mask off. Tecnicos won in straight falls, Namajague fouling Cometa in the second.
4) Mr. Águila, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Shocker
Rudos took 1/3. Mr. Aguila beat Shocker with his feet on the ropes, as those two continue to feud.
5) La Sombra, Rush, Thunder b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
Thunder’s Arena Mexico debut. He was pinned in the first fall, but helped the tecnicos take 2/3. Thunder pinned Terrible with a powerbomb in the third.
6) Atlantis DQ Último Guerrero
Atlantis used the Atlantida to take the first, Ultimo Guerrero also used the Atlantida to win in the second. UG went for a foul in the third, Atlantis blocked, and UG pulled his mask for the DQ.

CMLL’s also posted highlights of Thursday’s press conference, though they didn’t include the title match contract signing.

El Hijo del Santo’s TxT show today. He’s been doing a lot of mainstream press for the show this past week. Santo still gets the respect of an important top star by those who casually follow lucha libre and needs all he can get from that. I checked tickets last night, and could’ve bought one in the third row. In one interview, Santo specifies this is the first of eight shows scheduled for this year, and blames CMLL cutting ticket prices hurting the DF market. CMLL hasn’t done the Fan Appreciation cheap ticket price deal much in the last year, but I’d imagine it’s coming back at least for the Kid’s Day show next month. There’s been no hype  of Nieto del Santo in any interview; perhaps his impending debut is being saved for today’s show.

Guerrero Maya Jr. was very interested to hear about Black Terry coming to CMLL, for the Arena Coliseo Anniversary show.  Guerrero Maya Jr. notes he had a bitter rivalry with Terry back when he was known as Multifacetico, and would be very interested in getting one more match with him to end it for all. Black Terry is already booked for that show, but Maya put out an invitation for him to stick around a little longer.

The Gladiatores recap of Thursday’s night Fenix/Dinamic Black explains the finish might have not gone right. Dinamic Black gave Fenix a Canadian Destroyer, referee Grillo counted two, stopped, then counted three. No one was sure what that meant, so they did an armbar submission to make sure it was over.

CMLL Gaceta’s preview of Sunday’s Arena Coliseo show includes Rey Bucanero talking about his return from injury. The article calls him ex-NWA Light Heavyweight Champion, but he’s was never stripped of the title during his seven month absence as far as anyone can tell. Possibly just a typo.

Rob has highlights of 02/19/13 CMLL.

Porra Fresa previews Monday’s Puebla card.

Konnan mentioned WWE’s the Miz Antonio Cesaro was coming to AAA at one point.

Abismo Negro passed away four years ago yesterday. R de Rudo picks five moments from Abismo Negro’s career.

Arena Lopez Mateos announced their 46th Anniversary show will take place on May 19th, with Canek and Blue Demon Jr.
