Lanzeloth moves to 1-0 (2 points), and Rocky Lobo is 0-1 (0 points)

Hacker kept his title. Second defense?
9) Flamita & Juventud Guerrera b AR Fox & Tribal and Crazy Boy & Willie Mack

An indy group posted results from their own show! I am so thrilled. It’s the little things.

Torneo Liguilla Premier is a standard round robin league tournament. Everyone faces everyone, 2 points for a win, 1 points for a loss, winner gets to be in the main event of the Mexico City show.

CMLL (TUE) 03/26/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Leo & Virgo b Demonio Maya & Évola
Virgo takes falls 1/3.
2) Astral, Pequeño Halcón, Stukita b Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia
Straight falls. First win for Stukita!
3) Goya Kong, Marcela, Silueta b Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
Tecnicas took 2/3, Goya plancha on Sugheit
4) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Máximo b Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Tecnicos took 1/3, Sombra and Polvora exchanging pinfalls in each round.
5) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Universo 2000
Javier Cruz Jr. was Rayo de Jalisco’s second. Rayo took the first, Universo took the second, and Rayo took the third due to a distrection.

LuchaWorld explains down the Mascairta Dorada to WWE rumor, and it seems not to be rumor but actual fact; the WON mentioned a Mexican mini was training with WWE, and Dorada says he’s in FCW. No one’s quite sure what they’ve got planned for him (assuming there is a plan.)

CMLL.com posted a Harlem Shake video to promote the Arena Coliseo Anniversario show. (LuchaWorld IDs everyone.) This would’ve been funnier before the Harlem Shake videos died.

Silencio kept the Arena el Jaguar championship (defended in Arena Coliseo Monterrey) over his brother Simbolo Sunday. Match was said to be very good.

Porra Fresa misses the Stigma vs Bobby Zavala feud. The Arena Coliseo Tag Titles need to go Namajague/Okumura to Super Halcon/Hombre Bala to Disturbio/Zavala, and then they can feud with Stigma and, let’s say, Asturiano. Everything solved.

6) Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Psicosis vs Ángel de Oro, Shocker, Valiente [MEX TRIOS]
Invasors are champions and are attempting second defense

Shocker tried this with Blue Panther and Brazo de Plata back in January. I think he’s got a slightly better shot this time. Lightning match probably won’t air.

2) Acero, Astral, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior

1) Legendario I, Legendario II, Legendario III vs Dranser, Misionerio, Scravos
2) Dralion vs Galactar, Slayer Boy, Rey Orion, Epidemius, Gato Fantasma [Copa Cruceros, final]
3) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan Jr. vs Gemelo Muerte I & Gemelo Muerte II
4) Sicodélico Jr. vs Chico Latino, Genocida [Zero One Mexico CHAMP]
Sicodelico is champion.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Máscara Púrpura vs Konnan Big & Rico Rodriguez

Main event is billed as an epic first time encounter, though Wagner did face Konnan Plus back in 2003. It’s still epic.

I spend way too much time checking to see if Zero One Mexico is a real group. It is, everyone wrote about it back in September when it was announced. There’s not been much follow up, because Zero One Mexico seems to be running shows in Texas. Close!

top six stories of the last two weeks (or so)

  1. Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis signed for a mask match. The date was left undecided, but there’s a 99.9% chance it will end up happening on the 80th Anniversary show in September. It’ll probably sell out the building.
  2. Cibernetico and Perro Aguayo Jr. signed for a hair match. The date was announced as TripleMania on June 16 in Arena Ciudad de Mexico. It’ll probably sell out the building. This match was announced at Rey de Reyes, with the mask match announcement following a few days later.
  3. AAA announced a deal with FactoryMade as part of an expansion to the US. This deal includes a presence on FactoryMade’s co-owned station El Rey (to launch on New Year’s Day 2014.) Their plans include AAA shows starting in the US in late 2013 and running two separate tours (which was announced at Rey de Reyes.) AAA is very excited about the capabilities of their new partner.
  4. Okumura lost his hair and Namajague lost his mask to Rey Cometa & Stuka in the main event of CMLL’s annual Homenaje a Dos Leyendas show. Namajague was revealed to be NJPW trainee Kyosuke Mikami as expected. In undercard matches, Estrellita took Amapola’s hair, Volador & Sombra won the incredible pairs tournament (with Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis breaking up again), and Rayo Jr. returned to Arena Mexico to win by DQ over Universo in trios. Rayo de Jalisco Sr. was honored on the show. The show drew unexpectedly well, estimated between 12-13,000.
  5. Mesias won the Rey de Reyes tournament on the show of the same name in Monterrey. He defeated LA Park and surprise inclusion Canek in the final. Other matches on the show saw Texano Jr. keep the mega heavyweight title over Blue Demon, Fabi Apache won the vacant Reina de Reinas championship, and Fenix won the new Fusion championship. The big news going forward is the hair match and the announcement AAA would be split in to two brands – Dorian led Evolucion and Joaquin led Fusion – but there are few details or other signs of a split so far. The show drew well in Monterrey, estimated as 11-12K.
  6. Ray Mendoza held his retirement show on 03/16; he and his brother Villano IV defeated Hijo del Pirata Morgan & Cassandro in the finales of a losers advance mask/hair tournament. Hijo del Pirata Morgan was revealed to be Antheus Ortiz Chavez. The show drew very poorly, around 1-2,000 people in an 8,000 seat building with a very expensive lineup. Villano V said on facebook that he’d lost $38,000 (USD) on the show. Four days later, Ray Mendoza Jr. came back out of retirement to work on next Sunday’s Arena Coliseo Anniversary show (along with other independent luchadors.)
  • Hijo del Santo resumed his Todo X El Todo shows this past Saturday, defending the CMB (boxing federation) Lucha Libre championship for the first time over evil foreigner Oliver John. Angel Blanco Jr. also defended the WWA Welterweight title he won from Santo last year on the same show, and the main event of the next show seems to either be Santo vs Angel or Santo & Mexicans vs Oliver John and the rest of his evil La Migra. No next show date has been announced, but Santo told the press he plans on running eight shows this year. There was no mention of Nieto del Santo’s upcoming trip to start training in Japan.
  • Lucha Libre USA announced it’s tour dates, with 9 shows between March and April. The promotion has gone from having short run TV with limited reach (and low turnouts) to no TV at all, and appears mostly reliant on doing local interviews in the day before the show. RJ Brewer continues to be the focus, facing off against Blue Demon and Solar on shows. Super Crazy, Hijo del Fantasma, and Melina are among those added to the roster. No lineups have been announced.
  • CMLL held a press conference to announce the Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis mask match, as well as tournaments (Gran Alternativa, En Busca de Idolo), a CMLL vs Independents themed Arena Coliseo Anniversary show (which seems to be getting a Dragon Rojo/Sombra match as well), and Titan being stripped of his national welterweight championship due to injury.
  • SuperLuchas magazines announced it was going on hiatus for at least a couple weeks. It was not announced as farewell issue, but many of the columns referenced it being an end, and it seems at least questionable if they’ll actually be returning.
  • Alberto Del Rio told a follower on Twitter that WWE would be returning to Mexico in September, running shows in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City. No other information is known.
  • In another Incredible Pairs tournament in Puebla, Atlantis & Volador vs Shocker & Rey Bucanero will be the final next Monday.
  • Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. won Pirata Morgan’s hair in IWRG’s Prison Fatal match, continuing a bad weekend for the Pirata family. They rebounded the following weekend, winning the vacant IWRG trios titles.
  • Soberano won CMLL’s Sangre Nueva tournament.
  • Infierno won Alteno’s mask in Guadalajara.
  • Successful title defenses: Cien Caras (IWRG Heavy), Dinamic Black (twice!)

04/06 AAA Fusion Lineup (Arena Lopez Mateos)

AAA FUSION (SAT) 04/06/2013 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Flamita, Jinzo, Lanzeloth vs Eterno, Lucky Boy, Niño de Ébano
2) Dinastía & Mascarita Sagrada vs Mini Chessman & Mini Psicosis
3) Atomic Boy, Lolita, Pasion Kristal vs Gran Apache, Mamba, Sexy Lady
4) Argenis, Dizzy, Zumbi vs Devil Rocker, Machine Rocker, Soul Rocker
5) Crazy Boy & Joe Lider vs Daga & Psicosis
6) Electroshock, Fénix, La Parka vs Chessman, Parka Negra, Pentagón Jr.

Air Date: 04/04-04/18, give or take a day. Should be broken up over three weeks.

I have this theory that part of Rey de Reyes will air on Fusion. I have nothing but flimsy evidence for this theory, but it would explain the couple week gap going on here.

The first Fusion taping after the tournament is over has the Fenix in the main event. He appears to be matched up again Pentagon Jr., so old times are back again. The show itself seems more like a regular AAA TV taping, with one main event match replaced by “Rockers vs Guys Who Are Almost Never On TV” as a fourth match. That’s not a big main event, but it La Parka seems like a bigger deal than the Psycho Circus and the Infierno Rockers and we’ll see if it draws any better.

This is Dizzy’s first appearance since the equally random appearance last February in Cancun. He was a rudo then. I’m going to take an easy guess here and assume he’s got some other job. My assumption is everyone else is booked at some spot shows AAA hasn’t listed. My realization is Astro de Plata would’ve been booked a whole lot if he didn’t get hurt.

There’s no obvious sign of a Fusion only roster. If AAA has planned anything more than “there’s going to be a split”, they’ve kept it very quiet so far.

The really should finish off the Atomic Boy & Gran Apache feud on Fusion; it could be a semimain event on these shows.

AULL, Rey Bucanero & Shocker advance, DTU, Aguila vs Shocker, Negro Casas vs Ultimo Dragon

AULL (SUN) 03/24/2013 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Rey Kaleph & Ukonen vs Antheus & Black Panther
2) King Dragon & Metal Dragon b Discordia & Rey Inmortal
3) Casi Muerto, Decadente, Psicópata b Ángel de la Noche, Mr. Flama, Rey Krystal
Recap says Psicópata won this pretty much by himself.
4) Cerebro Maligno, Herejía, Judas el Traidor, Sepulturero I b Chucho el Roto, Iron Love, Olimpus, Yakuza
Sepulturero replaced Rey Krimen and didn’t get along with his partners, but they won anyway to set up a tag team title match.
5) Aeroboy, Dement Extreme, Paranoiko, Violento Jack b Epitafio, Leviatham, Samael, Tormento
Team DTU used weapons when things weren’t going that way, including giving the referee a chair shot to the face. They took the match strongly, seemed to set up another rematch.
6) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Hijo de Black Man, Hijo de Kendo, Kung Fu Jr.
Nuevo Fantasticos lost when Negro submitted Hijo de Black Man. Black Man challenged Negro Navarro to a match next Sunday.

And they’re actually doing it next Sunday – Negro and the Diabolicos vs the Fantasticos and the tag team title match. Week to week follow up in Arena Lopez Mateos is unusual but neat.

CMLL (MON) 03/25/2013 Arena Puebla [Communcate Digital, El Popular, Porra Fresa]
Attendance: 1900
1) Asturiano & Milenium b Akron & Blue Center
Tecnicos took 1/3. Asturiano gave Center a crazy legdrop to the floor late.
2) Camaleón & Stigma b Artillero & Taurus
Tecnicos took 1/3. Stigma submitted Taurus.
3) Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus b Hooligan, Nitro, Skándalo
Tuareg jumped the Cancerberos, but they rallied back to take falls 2/3. Virus submitted Skandalo for the win. Virus challenged the Tuareg to a cage match next week.
4) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Máximo b Diamante Azul, Euforia, Namajague, Rey Bucanero, Hijo del Fantasma, Mistico [seeding battle royal]
usual seeding battle royal
5) Mistico & Último Guerrero b Felino & Hijo del Fantasma [torneo increible de parejas, eightfinal]
6) Rey Bucanero & Shocker b Namajague & Stuka Jr. [torneo increible de parejas, eightfinal]
Stuka & Namajague did not get along.
7) Euforia & Super Porky b Diamante Azul & Psicosis [torneo increible de parejas, eightfinal]
Rush had been originally announced, but was replaced by Super Porky.
8) Máximo & Mephisto b Dragón Rojo Jr. & La Máscara [torneo increible de parejas, eightfinal]
9) Mistico & Último Guerrero b Rey Bucanero & Shocker [torneo increible de parejas, quarterfinal]
Mistico dropkicked UG thanks to a quick move by Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero broke up a Mistico pin in revenge, and Shocker & Bucanero rolled them up for the pins. Bucanero & Shocker were working as rudos.
10) Máximo & Mephisto b Euforia & Super Porky [torneo increible de parejas, quarterfinal]
Maximo didn’t want to fight his dad, but Porky encouraged him to fight for the people.
11) Rey Bucanero & Shocker b Máximo & Mephisto [torneo increible de parejas, semifinal]
Shocker beat Maximo with an armbar to win the tournament. They move on to face Atlantis & Volador Jr. next week.

I could not have been more wrong about this prediction. Bucnaero & Shocker vs Volador & Atlantis is a strange weird match up. Wonder if they’re setting up a Bucanero title match somehow. It is nice to see Shocker & Rey Bucanero working well as a team after their great failure as one a long time ago.

Not sure if we’re meant to take the cage match challenge seriously.

DTU held a press conference to introduce the two foreign wrestlers for it’s upcoming shows. Both Willie Mack and AR Fox were on delayed flights and did not arrive until after the press conference was over. Oh well. Crazy Boy explained his new CB2 logo – he’s back as Crazy Boy Squared – and said they’d be bringing in more foreign luchadors “despite the high cost to hire them and bring them in” to differentiate themselves from groups who keep using the same people. Juvi and Crazy Boy also talked up their Alto Impacto style. DTU’s not getting rid of extreme matches – Violento Jack is on this tour – but it does seem like they’re focusing less on the Ultraviolent aspect. Black Terry Jr. has photos from the press conference.

CMLL Gaceta hypes tonight’s Arena Mexico show as Mr. Aguila wants Shocker’s hair. Those two have been feuding on Tuesdays and Fridays, and it’s just unclear if it’s meant to be a trios feud on Tuesday. Aguila is teaming his fellow national trios champions, Kraneo & Psicosis against Shocker, Valiente and Angel de Oro.  It works out better to do that title match next week if it’s happening with these teams, since Valiente would just be getting back from Japan the following Tuesday.

CMLL has video of the post match from this past Friday’s Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis match.

AAA’s Twitter says they’re taping in Ciudad Madero on 05/24. The Tampico local promoter previously said they’d be taping on that date, and Tampico and Ciudad Madero are neighboring cities.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

IWRG (SUN) 03/31/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Ángel Del Amor & Seiya vs Eita & Tomahawk
2) Carta Brava Jr. vs Centvrión, Mr. Leo, Fulgore, Power Bull [IWRG IC MIDDLE, #1 Contenders]
five match fighters. Winner gets a shot at El Angel.
3) Dinamic Black, Dr. Cerebro, Veneno vs Black Terry, el Ángel, Scorpio Jr.
4) Eterno & X-Fly vs Cien Caras Jr. & Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 and Trauma I & Trauma II and Danny Casas & Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal has appeared on many of the AAA TV tapings in Arena Naucalpan, but this is his first appearance on a regular IWRG show since the end of 2007. The main event is family tag teams (Familia de Tijuana, Dinamitas family , Navarros and Casas Family)

Angel just turned rudo, so it would make more sense for him to be facing a tecnico. Centvrion, last seen posting sad messages on Twitter, looks to have a good chance unless there’s something else going on.

Toryumon MEXICO (SUN) 04/14/2013 Sala de Armas Magdalena Mixhuca
1) Sangre Imperial & Sangre Latina vs Angel Del Infierno & Kratoz
2) Barbye Anyma vs Bastet
3) Demus 3:16 & Pequeño Nitro vs Astral & Shockercito
4) Dowki & Hanaoka vs Celestick I & Celestick II [super libre]
rematch of January’s Copa Dragon final
5) Brazo de Platino, Hijo del Fantasma, Magnus vs Akuma 3:16, Herodes Jr., Hijo del Signo
6) Último Dragón vs Negro Casas [NWA WELTER]
Negro Casas is champion. Will be his attempt at a sixth defense if no defense prior.

I should know better, but I’m interested in that main event. The last Negro Casas/Ultimo Dragon title match was in 1994.

This is the title (more or less) that used to be defended in Toryumon and held by Dragon prior to that, in case you’re looking for ways this match might end in cleanly.

a few sparse notes

Outside of the result of the main event – Los Piratas winning the trios tournament over the Oficials – no results from last night’s IWRG show as of yet. You can see pictures here.

On this week’s MLW Radio, Konnan’s asked who he would’ve wanted to send to TNA if TNA had it’s act together on visas and he could’ve sent whoever he wanted. He names Fenix, Drago, Daga, Samuray del Sol, Ricky Marvin and Jack Evans.  That’s basically the same list he usually says when asked that sort of question. Based on his mention here and showing up on that Neza lineup, I’d guess Ricky has a deal like LA Park with AAA or Dark Angel with CMLL, where he’s booking his own schedule as first priority but working for AAA when he’s not in demand. There’s also a story about Psicosis, Halloween and others recently choosing to take a freeway instead of the tollway back from a show in Reynosa, and ending up paying a pricey toll due to the local cartel.

CMLL changed the Sunday cards slightly. Olimpico is in for Polvora on Sunday, and Sangre takes Olimpico’s place on Friday.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Dark Angel advanced to the finals of a four woman #1 contenders tournament, but lost to Io Shirai in the final.

CMLL Gaceta’s note on the upcoming CMLL trips to Japan adds Estrellita as the name I couldn’t make out.

R de Rudo looks back at Atlantis vs Villano III.

Angel Blanco Jr. wants the next title match at Hijo del Santo. It’s either that or a trios match vs La Migra for the next TxT show.

History of boxing in Arena Coliseo also features the 1,000th retelling of Oro Jr.‘s death.
