welcome Stukita
welcome Stukita

Fantasy, Shockercito, Stukita vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior: These guys were trying and not going thru the usual spots, but they were also looking clumsy and rough in sections. The third fall was full of cringe worthy spots. Stukita seems like had promise – and it’s only in Mexico where a guy Stukita’s size gets a chance in a major promotion – but he got completely lost with Warrior in the third fall. Demus and Shockercito are normally reliable and they were off too. Maybe it just wasn’t their night.

Goya Kong, Lady Afrodita, Marcela vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany: Exactly what you’d expect given this lineup – a minute or so of good Blanca/Marcela stuff and then a lot of comedy with Goya & Afrodita (some intentional comedy.) The crowd that’s going to Arena Mexico still loves Goya Kong, so there’s no reason to expect her to ever change. Lady Afrodita doesn’t have that reception. Maybe someone will let her know it’s okay to actually make contact on her kicks.

La Máscara, Shocker, Titán vs Black Warrior, Felino, Pólvora: I didn’t get into this one as much as I thought; there was a lot of holiday vacation level wrestling. They tried to get the most out of a little, but it didn’t really show why Titan was so angry with Pólvora in the course of the match other then they happened to have a match next week. It was a good use of putting Titan with two guys the crowd sees as stars, but this just felt like the junior members of the trios setting up a not especially important match.

Negro Casas vs Guerrero Maya Jr. for the NWA World Welterweight Championship: any match with the opening fall mat work actually is responsible for the finish to the fall is good by me. The match almost peaked in that first fall. It really wasn’t that long off a match, just over ten minutes, and the third fall didn’t have much but the near falls at the end. There’s a good story of the match – Maya outmaneuvered Negro in the first, so Negro pulled out veteran tricks to outsmart Maya in the next two falls – and there’s interesting larger story of the title defenses – Maya seems farther along than Oro is, and Oro’s had more chances – but this was only a nice match when I was hoping for something a bit more. Unlike the Angel de Oro matches (especially the first one), this felt like something different from their trios matches and it made for a more interesting trios matches, but maybe the five minutes that wasn’t here could’ve got the crowd more invested. They were just coming around at the end.
