Invasors win trios titles, Niebla/Shocker, Chris Masters, new Perro del Mal

CMLL (SUN) 12/16/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Warrior b Aereo & Pequeño Halcón
Rudos took 1/3 in a poor match.
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca Jr., Magnus, Starman
Rudos took 1/3, Skandalo Driver on Starman.
3) Cancerbero, Misterioso Jr., Raziel b Fuego, Stuka Jr., Tritón
Straight falls for the rudos. Raziel & Cancerbero submitted Fuego & Stuka Jr., and demanded a title match.
4) Tiger b Diamante [lightning]
Tigre beat Diamante cleanly with a sit down powerbomb in
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Pólvora b La Sombra, Máximo, Super Halcón Jr.
Super Halcon replaced Super Porky, but did not get any pinfall victories in this match. Rudos took falls 1/3.
6) Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Psicosis b Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. [MEX TRIOS]
Invasors took fall 1, countering the tencicos and submitting them after a Kraneo tope on Maya. Delta & Guerrero Maya submitted Aguila & Psicosis in the second. Maya connected on a revenge dive on Kraneo. Aguila gave a (sort of) Destroyer to beat Delta, Maya gave Aguila the Sacrifica Maya, Atlantis dove onto Psicosis, and Kraneo gave Maya the sit down piledriver once again to win the titles. The sit down piledriver is now called the Kraneo Special.

Another surprise CMLL title change, as has been the last few – Polvora’s title win and Terrible & Tama also were unexpected. There’s nothing wrong with Aguila (who was part of the previous champions), Psicosis and Kraneo, and they had a good match here. The concern in the Reyes del Atlantida – and more particularly Delta & Guerrero Maya – seem to be directionless with they’re not trios champions, and now they’re not trios champions again. The focus off the feud has been Kraneo & Guerrero Maya, and hopefully they’ll do that singles match before long.

An all rudo win day. The Arena Coliseo Tag Team Title match was not officially announced for next Sunday, but that appears to be the case.

CMLL (SUN) 12/16/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Black Metal & Virgo
Truenos took 2/3.
3) Halcón de Plata & León Blanco DQ Espectrum & Maléfico
Tecnicos took 1/3, rudos DQed for excessive violence. Leon Blanco’s first match here since August.
4) Bárbaro Cavernario b Smaker [OCCIDENTE MIDDLE]
New champion, Smaker going down in his second defense against Barbaro. Barbaro took falls 1/3, the last with a tapatia.
5) Mr. Niebla, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura b Ángel de Oro, Shocker, Titán
Rudos took 1/3. Niebla and Shocker made challenges after the match.

Earlier today, Chris Masters responded to a question if he was coming to Mexico & CMLL by saying he believes he’d be coming in February. Masters has worked indy shows in Mexico a handful times this year, most recently a couple months ago in Tijuana, and it’s possible he might mean another one of those dates and not something full time.

It’s very unusual for CMLL to bring in foreigners who don’t have some existing connection. Strong Man got in based on Shocker meeting him at an indy show, and probably at least started as a lower price than an ex-WWE guy (as would’ve Steele and Kevin Quinn.) Alex Kolsov, Rocky Romero and the rest of the Havana Pitbulls would’ve gotten in thru NJPW, and Marco Corleone & Kenzo Suzuki got their starts thru Ultimo Dragon. This would be CMLL going out to get someone who could just as easily get bookings eleswhere and not the way CMLL normally acts.

Masters improved a lot from his earliest WWE days, though CMLL is a lot different. This might mean he’s the mystery guy featured in the CMLL 2013 vignettes, thought the one hint we were given – he’s agile for his size – doesn’t exactly fit. Also, part of the value of bringing in an ex-WWE guy is you get to advertise him as an ex-WWE guy, not a mystery man. Mostly, I’m hoping it’s not Masters because if he’s coming in February, we’ll see that same vignette every week for 2 more months. That’s not good for anyone.

Speaking of mystery people, the mystery Perros del Mal woman is revealed on the newest SuperLuchas cover to be ex-WWE Tough Enough competitor and ex-FCW wrestler Ivelisse Velez. Prior to WWE, she wrestled in Puerto Rico (and apparently Chicago?), and she’s been working indies since being let go from WWE a few weeks ago. The WON story on her release was Ivelisse was the best women’s wrestler they had in their developmental territory and she knew it, and the trainers didn’t that she knew it and released her claiming attitude problems. It doesn’t seem like the Perros del Mal/AAA promotion really needs another ruda – they have too many and are overdue to turn someone – but if you ignore that context, this is a smart pickup.

Ciclope lost his mask in the main event of DTU’s anniversary show, and Cerbero Negro lost his hair in IWRG. More results from both tomorrow, I Hope.

CMLL (FRI) 12/14/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLLYahoo! Deportes]
***Sin Piedad, 2012***
1) Astral, Bam Bam, Fantasy b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Tecnicos toik 1/3. Bam Bam beat Demus with his usual legdrop, which was severe enough to cause Demus to be strechered out.
2) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit b Dark Angel, Estrellita, Silueta
Rudas took 2/3. RadioCMLL announcers pushed the idea of Amapola challenging Estrellita for her newly won belt.
3) Titán, Tritón, Valiente b Felino, Negro Casas, Puma
Tecnicos took 2/3. Titan, who one upon the time won a tournament where one of the prizes was he was going to wrestle in the main event every show the rest of the year, worked in the tercera. He also battled Zacarias in this match.
4) Averno b Máscara Dorada [lightning]
Averno won with a Devil’s Wings in 8:02. Mascara Dorada’s recent run of bad results continue.
5) Terrible, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b Diamante Azul, Rush, Shocker
Ultimo Guerrero beat Shocker with his own reinera.
6) La Sombra b Tama Tonga [Copa Jr., final]
Rush and Terrible were seconds. Tama took the first in 4:31 with a top rope tornillo, previously unseen from him. Sombra won the second with in 7:59 a suplex. Sombra took the third (9:52, 17:51 total) with what came across on radio as another botched ref count – the ref counting three when Tama kicked out (and the match was not intended to be over.)

Maybe wrestlers and edecanes wore Christmas colored outfits.

AAA’s YouTube channel posted vignettes from the show early, which reveal Mesias vs Texano and the Octagon Jr. debut (and Parka Negra/Pentagon Jr. debut) will air today. The trailer for next week hypes the ladder match and the cage match. It is possible they might just air two matches a week, and that’ll stretch the taping out to cover the extra week they need. The Relevos AAA and Rockers vs Circus would be left for week 3. The regional show would be left having to fill a lot of time, but they seem okay with that.

CMLL 52MX is airing the top 3 from last Sunday.

Noti AAA announced Twitter accounts for Super Fly and Yuriko. Unsure if these are real; the actual AAA account mentioned the Super Fly one later in the day, so it might be.

Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Dragon Rojo, Euforia, Niebla Roja, Misterioso and Stuka are working a show next Sunday in Denver. That’s a lot of people flying it, but sounds like a good show.

R de Rudo makes the case for Joe Lider, Wrestler of the Year. I totally disagreed with this when I saw the headline, and I still wouldn’t vote for him, but there’s a decent case being made – he did win four different hair matches, including on one TripleMania.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/21/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcón Jr. vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Silueta vs Amapola, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany
3) Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
4) Valiente vs Averno [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Titán vs Negro Casas, Terrible, Tiger
6) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Máximo vs Mr. Águila, Psicosis, Volador Jr.

Amapola and Estrellita are matched up again, so maybe they’re up to something. Then again, Averno is in the lighting match again, so maybe they’re just being random. Main event is the closest the actual trios champs have come to teaming up in a month.

great match roundup, week of 11/17/2012

Great/Excellent Matches
none

Shows Watched But Nothing Made The List
AAA on Televisa: 2012-11-17
CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX: 2012-11-17
CMLL on CadenaTres: 2012-11-17 – but Rey Escorpion getting Polvora to turn on Niebla Roja was a thing of beauity. My high estimitation for Rey Escorpion as a personality is not accurately reflected in this sort of match selection process.
CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico): 2012-11-17
CMLL on Televisa: 2012-11-17
AAA Fusion: 2012-11-21

I can’t exactly remember my thoughts about Dinamic Black, Golden Magic, Saruman vs Alan Extreme, Imposible, Jack from IWRG Zona XXI, but I believe I thought was pretty good but not quite Great.

Possibly Good Stuff I didn’t get to it

IWRG TV: 2012-11-18 – 2) Devil Rocker, Machine Rocker, Soul Rocker vs Alan Extreme, Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro

Extreme Tiger in IWRG, LLUSA, Copa Junior

1) Galaxie b Araña de Plata
one fall
2) Dinamic Black & Saruman b Eita & Imposible
Saruman beat Eita, but it was Dinamic Black would challenge Eita to a singles match.
3) Dragoncito De Oro, Mini Rey Cometa, Voladorcito b Bracito De Plata, Mini Policeman, Piratita Morgan Jr.
Dragoncito de Oro is obviously a different mini than Voladorcito now. Dragoncito & Cometa beat Pirata & Policeman at the same time Voladorcito beat Bracito de Plata. Referees decided it should be a tecnico win since Plata was the captain. Rudos rightfully complained.
4) Canis Lupus, Cerebro Negro, Fuerza Guerrera b Black Terry, Centvrión, Dr. Cerebro
Rudos took 1/3. Cerebro Negro defeated Dr. Cerbero with la Cerebina. Fuerza and Terry also feuded.
5) Extreme Tiger, Trauma I, Trauma II b Eterno, Oficial 911, X-Fly
Tecnicos took 1/3, Tiger with a 450 splash on X-Fly. X-Fly claimed Tiger had his feet on the ropes but was ignored.

Today is CMLL’s Sin Piedad, CMLL’s year end show for the sake of having a year end show. Activities on Tuesday suggest the big apuesta match might have been saved for a few weeks down the line, but it leaves this December show with a random tournament as it’s main event. La Sombra and Tama Tonga meet in the Copa Junior final. This is Sombra’s second singles match for a trophy on a Friday in a row, though the name won’t be removed from this trophy.  Tama Tonga has been an invincible Samoan in his CMLL run so far, but Sombra’s been near perfect of late as well. Tonga is currently not scheduled for any matches next week. Which ever way this goes, this might be it for him in Mexico for now, though he’ll be back to defend the tag titles at some point. I tend to believe Sombra will win, but I’ve picked against Tama every single time and I’ve been wrong every single time.

There are good matches on the rest of the show – Mascara Dorada vs Avero in a lightning match is the highlights – but not really much in terms of continuing storylines.

A marketing article on Dr. Pepper’s Hispanic advertising talks about them sponsoring the 2012 Lucha Libre USA tour, and mentions Dr. Pepper Ten will sponsor the 2013 tour. That means they’ll have a tour! (I believe this has been mentioned before, but sponsor money means they can actually pull this off.) Locations announced: San Jose, Las Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Laredo, San Antonio, Phoenix, Chicago, Las Vegas and either Detroit or Grand Rapids. No dates announced. I will be supporting Pequeno Halloween at the Chicago show.

Mistico is still being promoted as wresting at a show on Saturday in Tulancingo. It seems unlikely Mistico, still not scheduled for a single DF show, will be making his return in Tulancingo.

Bill has highlights from the second half of August in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.
