Christmas shows, Latin Lover, YouTube

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show is headlined by Guerrero Maya challenging Negro Casas for the NWA World (Historic) Welterweight Championship in what might be the best match of the year. Guerrero Maya is a very good luchador who’s having excellent matches right now, and Negro Casas is amazingly still on form three weeks away from turning 53 (and going for revenge about all those Mayan prophecies.) It’d be a significant surprise if Maya won his first singles title, a world title to boot, on tonight’s show. At the same time, the last few title changes have been surprises, nothing can be ruled out.

The show is also the debut of mini Stukita. He’s been training in Mexico since April, and has been wrestling around La Laguna since at least 2009. Stukita says it’s honor to carry on the name, but he’s got a different style than Stuka Jr. He’ll be in the segunda of tonight’s show. The tercera continues the Tigre Blanco/Leono vs Bobby Zavala/Disturbio feud; if I’m right about them running the show hair match next week, they really ought to be making it official tonight. This show starts a couple hours early at 5pm.

Guerrero Maya, Titan and Starman are also working a special Tuesday afternoon Coliseo Coaclaco show prior to tonight’s Arena Mexico show.

CMLL is running all three of it’s owned arenas tonight. Arena Coliseo Guadalajara has it’s usual Tuesday show, with a main event of Marco, Mascara and Maximo versus Mr. Niebla, Averno and Mephisto in what probably will be a comedy match for the kids. Arena Puebla’s usual show is moved to Tuesday, with a main event of Atlantis, Delta, Valiente vs Terrible, Tiger, Volador. Neither of the two smaller arenas have any big programs going on.

Tonight’s the big Guerrero Mixtico vs Comando Negro mask match in Arena Neza. The two young guys have been feuding last November, including previously being in a cage match. The Santo/Demon/Fuerza mask match hinted at for Arena Neza for 01/01 seems not to have come together – Santo mentioned he hadn’t heard back from the promoter. Neza has run a New Year’s Day for the last few years, so perhaps something will come together here – and the mysterious Neza Kid and Mike Segura are back facing off again in the undercard.

The Wagners are in Torreon for a show tonight. As are the Guerreros, plus Dragon Rojo, Blue Panther, Misterioso, Taurus, Espanto and Soberano.

Negro Navarro, Okumura, Namajague, Nitro are among those in Arena Pavillon del Norte.

Other previously mentioned shows include IWL coming back to life and booking everyone, a IWRG show with no outside talent but the debut of the Mini Oficials, and a Rey Misterio promoted show in Tijuana.

Latin Lover did an interview yesterday saying he may retire from lucha libre. This is kind of a joke; Latin has been pretty much retired from wrestling full time for years. He has not wrestled 20 matches in a year since 2007. He only did 4 matches this year, mostly in the US. This is not about wrestling. I expect he’ll keep doing that many matches for the future. Latin is just looking for attention, trying to get the word out that he’s available (very available) to working on TV as an actor or other roles. Which has also been true for a long time.Wrestling doesn’t take care of you forever, but reality TV show participant has a even shorter run.

AAA has holiday wishes from Fabi Apache & Cuervo, Mary Apache & Halloween, El Brazo, Dorada, Dinastia and Octagoncito, my friend Konnan and Los Reinas del Rings and Psycho Circus.

The Gladiatores has some pleasant holiday wishes.

Rob has highlights from January 2002

I have a new channel on YouTube: It’s a place for me to upload older footage that isn’t on a video site already, without disrupting the new video feed of It’s not something I’ll be updating weekly, but whenever I get a chance to sort thru material. A lot of stuff is 2007-08 ish, as I go thru the old Guerreros del Rings.

Some of the videos up include 2007 Brillante (pre-Sombra), a feature on Negro Casas with some familiar faces, the Amapola vs Diana la Cazadora hair match, Mistico vs Black Warrior in a title match, and Ogun vs Chris Stone from Revolution Free Style (that music will be stuck in your head the rest of the day.) My DVD with the Mogur/Leono match has gone missing. Both men are suspects. They were definitely suspect in that match. It is a bit jarring to see the CMLL crowd five years ago.

The amazing spectacular return of Rayo de Jalisco Jr., provided he goes to the airport this time. Note this is the same building, but NOT the same promoters. The promoter Rayo stood up may be in the building, may be announcing that match…

Speaking of “retirements”, Cien Caras has been retired for about a decade now. He’s still showing up if the price is right.

12/22-23 lucha videos

No CMLL on EstrellaTV. After being pre-empted for a couple weeks, it was replaced by a movie this week. It’s also not on this upcoming week’s listings, so it may be done.

I am still getting Sobre el Ring, but it airs at 3AM the morning this post goes up every week and I usually don’t have it ready for upload until mid morning. Rather than hold this post back for a show very few people watch, I’ll just add on to the post when I get a chance.
