Guerra de Titanes, AAA Reina de Reinas in Japan and upcoming TV schedule, Samuray del Sol

AAA held a press conference in Guadalajara to promote Guerra de Titanes. Perro Aguayo, Chessman and Cibernetico were to talk about the main event. Cibernetico said he’d prefer a one on one, and Perro suggested they just let the other four go so they could have itThe TNA surprise wrestler was not mentioned in the cruiserweight ladder match discussion; they didn’t just not mention a name, but they didn’t mention there was supposed to be a guy from TNA at all. Maybe there won’t be? Octagon Jr. was officially announced as La Parka & Octagon’s partner, as presumed. The match is being billed as Consejo vs AAA, but the gimmick is Dorian and Konnan are picking Silver King’s partners. In a separate interview, LA Park says Dr. Wagner always flees from him wherever they go (hmm) but they could settle in the cage. Park is totally uninterested in the other four guys, but would easily beat them should they end up together.

AAA also held a press conference in Japan, to hype today’s Reina de Reinas show with local promotion WAVE. Dorian Roldan traveled with the luchadors to this show, as did the crew from TerceraCaiada. Which leads today’s show

WAVE 11/27 Reina de Reinas:
Sexi Star b Jennifer Blake [Reina de Reinas, semifinal]
Kaguya b Fabi Apache [Reina de Reinas, semifinal]
Ayako Hamada, CIMA, Bashiko b Pimpinela, Lolita, Fenix
Sexi Star b Kaguya [Reina de Reinas]

Sexi Star keeps her title. Fenix impressed in his match.

AAA’s TV announced a year end taping in Acapulco on 12/21. That matches up with what Konnan was saying about the break period. The year end show is usual in Chilpancingo, though they went back there in May (maybe knowing they wouldn’t be going later?) The last taping I can find in Acapulco is July 2007, though there was a planned and canceled taping in 2008. My best guess at the TV schedule is

11/09 Puebla (11/17 & 11/24 – finished up this week)
11/15 Naucalpan (12/01 & 12/08 – everything airs)
12/02 Zapopan/GdT (12/15 & 12/22)
Best of filler show (just 12/29?)
12/21 Acapulco (01/05 & 01/12)
01/10 TBA

They usually run more than one week of filler shows and still could, but the schedule works nicely for just one. The pattern of two tapings shows continues, and will continue until there are more venues they can run.

Today’s Arena Mexico show has Ultimo Guerrero, Terrible, and Tama Tonga taking on Marco Corleone, Brazo de Plata, Maximo. The only built match is Niebla Roja vs Polvora, two rudos on opposite sides of the Guerrero breakup. The biggest match of the day is over in Guadalajara, where Princesa Blanca defends her Mexican National championship versus Estrellita and a title change is realistic possibility.

Diamante replaces Super Porky on Sunday’s Guadalajara show. The bigger news is that card is the same day as Guerra de Titanes, but it’s so ordinary that I didn’t realize it was meant to be opposition. It is a few more CMLL guys than usual, but anyone interested in heading to Zapopan for a six way cage match is not going to be change their minds because of a Volador vs Maximo main event. It is a token futile effort.

Samuray del Sol says he’ll be only using the Octagon Jr. in AAA. I think that’s the right move for him in the US; he can only change to Octagon Jr. later on when he needs a a fresh look for whatever reason. Samuray’s just breaking thru on the bigger promotions, not the right time to make the name change and confuse people. And the reality is, Octagon Jr. is going to mean something in front of the lucha audiences but not really much for the iPPV crowd. That’s where AAA is right now.

Dark Angel talks about her preparation for the bodybuilding contest this Thursday. She makes it sound like a fun challenge. I didn’t know this, but apparently no one knows who’s actually competing in the contest until the day of the contest.

IWRG has a couple of videos talking about the upcoming 50th anniversary of the family promoting in Naucalpan.

Rob has highlights of this year’s Heroes Inmortales.

There’s a column in SuperLuchas this week strongly critical of what I wrote about Pantera I, of the luchawiki, and of this site. I don’t have the time to respond today (and I don’t know that anyone cares about inter-media arguments), but I did want to at least acknowledge I saw it since I think that was the goal. Maybe I’ll get to it on Thursday. Always nice to find out people are actually reading the site, even when they greatly despise it.

  1. There’s a line at the end of the AAA section in the new SuperLuchas which all but says the top two from Naucalpan are airing this Saturday. Wonder if your schedule is almost right except Naucalpan will be one week and they’ll split GdT over 3 weeks like they did with Triplemania.

    More importantly…

“Decnnis feuded with Brandon on an indy show.”

    MY FANTASY AAA BOOKING!

  2. AAA should find someone willing to be Octagon Jr. on a worldwide basis, instead of worrying about his indie rep. The name Octagon is legendary.
