Hector Garza has lung cancer, is leaving wrestling to fight it

This note was sent out by Perros del Mal, Monday evening

The abbreviated translation: Hector Garza’s health problems are lung cancer. He’s retiring from wrestling for the moment to fight it, and has 6 chemotherapy sessions scheduled. They’ll do more exams after them to trace the progress of the disease and re-evaluate then.

Perros del Mal first referred to Garza’s problems twelve days ago, right before the latest Perros del Mal show, and only saying something would be announced in the next couple of days. Garza was supposed to debut his Angeles Rebeledes faction on that show, which (judging from Lucha s2000 interviews) would’ve been himself, Toscano and Latin Lover once Latin dealt with his own health issues.

Despite missing the Perros show, Garza did work the Copa Antonio Pena at Heroes Inmortales. It’s surprising he participated and the 12 men royal rumble match being quietly expanded to 13 men suggests they had plans to pull him from the match but changed their mind before the show. Garza was last one in the rumble and may have not stayed long. It’s his last match for the moment. Garza was scheduled to work in Monterrey this Sunday, but the promotion announced he would be off the card this afternoon, as news started to get out.

I hope Hector has a full and speedy recovery.

  1. This is horrible. So sad. He’s not just one of the top wrestlers in Mexico but in the entire world. He has an abundance of talent and charisma and every Star Quality that anyone can have. He can fly with the best of them and put on a technical mat based match also. Hector is proof that a big muscular man can be acrobatic.

I hope and pray that he wins this war with cancer and that we see him wrestle again for many years to come.
