Dorian & Konnan, Maximo, WWE, CMLL

The fourth part of Dorian and Konnan’s AAA interview is now up. They talk about the Psicosis name situation, doing an AAA vs CMLL show (Dorian would still like to do it, both say Paco Alonso is the only one stopping it and AAA/CMLL would turn CMLL’s business around), the possible of running shows in South America (they’d like to run everywhere), new Mistico (there already was a Mistico! you shouldn’t recreate characters – somewhere La Parka cries a single tear – but find and create new ones), Charly Manson (if his legal problems are settled, they’d bring him back), new people (they’re coming! Infierno Rockers are great, Konnan wants aspiring people to give them video of their work and have a distinct look – like Chessman), Extreme Tiger’s chances to go to WWE (none, he doesn’t speak English, but he’s going to be an international star in the US – someone brings up a Jack Evans/Extreme Tiger/Jeff Harty match as a possiblity, but they don’t get much time to talk about it before time runs. It seems like there’s a part five coming!

Maximo (or someone holding Maximo’s phone) was posting to Twitter from a doctor’s visit to check on his knee. He feared he may have torn his ACL, though wasn’t sure.

SuperLuchas notes it’s been a year since WWE came to Mexico to tape Raw and SmackDown! WWE has only been back to Mexico once in the spring, and haven’t been back in Mexico City. The usual fall tour was never announced, after many of the prior shows drew disappointing crowd. In the recent YouTube interviews with AAA (one more below), Konnan and Dorian have noted/bragged their ratings have beat WWE of late. I didn’t catch any exact numbers, but it appears they’re both around 6 rating points. AAA’s was around a 3 last year when we heard numbers, doubling that in a year is something they really should be bragging about it, it’s a remarkable turnaround. At the same time, WWE programming was doing 8’s and 9’s and used to do 10’s; they’ve fallen as far as AAA has risen up. (Televisa has moved RAW around a lot, which hasn’t helped, but it wouldn’t be happening if it was doing better.) Back when those TV tapings were announced, and more so back when the actual TV deals in Mexico were announced, we had this feeling WWE might just blow CMLL & AAA out of the water and take over Mexico. WWE did blow them out of the water for a while, but they’ve been unable to sustain that level of interest, and the home promotions are still making a living. WWE is not pulling out of Mexico, but a year after running TV tapings, they seem far away from taking over.

Today’s Arena Mexico show is headlined by Volador vs Sombra, a rematch of their 10 minute draw last week. I hope they draw again, that’d be hysterical. Reyes del Atlantida are back together for the first time since they lost the trios titles, facing the Invasors.

Ultimo Guerrero says he’ll announce the future of the Guerreros – a new unit or the end of the faction – in the next few days. UG has kicked out Rey Escorpion and Dragon Rojo out of the group for attacking Euforia, and points out they really could’ve succeeded if they just got along in the title match instead of fighting him. He hopes Escorpion and Rojo do fine because he’s the one who made them and everyone knows it, but they just couldn’t handle fame and success.  UG says Rey Escorpion & Dragon Rojo demanded Friday’s main event – those two against Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia and Niebla Roja –  but he’ll take care of his new bad friends. Guerrero is definitive: he will always be a rudo, he will not go to the tecnico side.

Averno feels he made the name Mistico important, still wants to destroy that name. He doesn’t care who’s under the mask, the mask has caused him too much trouble over the years and he’s going to be the one to end it. Averno doesn’t want the mask vs hair match yet, because it’d be too easy and says the new Mistico has some skills, but he unfortunately has to deal with the Avernos.

Rob has the Invasors being mean to Monito and bilingual Shocker. Also, thoughts about the best match of the week, which I’m not reading until I get to watch more than two of them.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Hector Garza has lung cancer, is leaving wrestling to fight it

This note was sent out by Perros del Mal, Monday evening

The abbreviated translation: Hector Garza’s health problems are lung cancer. He’s retiring from wrestling for the moment to fight it, and has 6 chemotherapy sessions scheduled. They’ll do more exams after them to trace the progress of the disease and re-evaluate then.

Perros del Mal first referred to Garza’s problems twelve days ago, right before the latest Perros del Mal show, and only saying something would be announced in the next couple of days. Garza was supposed to debut his Angeles Rebeledes faction on that show, which (judging from Lucha s2000 interviews) would’ve been himself, Toscano and Latin Lover once Latin dealt with his own health issues.

Despite missing the Perros show, Garza did work the Copa Antonio Pena at Heroes Inmortales. It’s surprising he participated and the 12 men royal rumble match being quietly expanded to 13 men suggests they had plans to pull him from the match but changed their mind before the show. Garza was last one in the rumble and may have not stayed long. It’s his last match for the moment. Garza was scheduled to work in Monterrey this Sunday, but the promotion announced he would be off the card this afternoon, as news started to get out.

I hope Hector has a full and speedy recovery.
