Terrible lays out Rush, Titan comes up short

CMLL (FRI) 07/20/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports (4)Kaiser Sports (rest)]
1) Camaleón & Höruz b Apocalipsis & Cholo
Cholo was strechered out after a Horuz move.
2) Hooligan, Nitro, Skándalo b Pegasso, Starman, Tigre Blanco
Rudos took 2/3, Nitro winning in his return.
3) Goya Kong, Luna Mágica, Marcela b La Comandante, Lady Apache, Tiffany
Marcela hooked the ropes to pin Tiffany for the win. They fought after the match. Marcela challenged for a hair match, and Tiffany said no.
4) Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis b Ángel de Oro, Máscara Dorada, Valiente
Invasors took 2/3, though Mije took a shot from Valiente near the end.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr. b Titán [CMLL MIDDLE]
Dragon Rojo defended the belt for the fourth time, taking falls 1/3. This was Titan’s title shot for winning En Busca de un Idolo. Horuz was Titan’s second.
6) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Rush DQ Negro Casas, Terrible, Último Guerrero
Straight falls. Terrible was subbed in for Mr. Niebla during the week. Both Tiger and La Comandante distracted Rush, allowing Terrible to a glass box on Rush’s head. DQ finish, but Terrible was more than satisfied, and challenged Rush to a hair vs hair match. Rush, unconscious and stretchered out, did not respond.

Plans can change, but that’s sure looks like an Annviersary main event angle.

Dragon Rojo says the win was harder than he anticipated, but winning a tournament doesn’t mean you can beat the Guerreros. Apparently! Rojo credits watching Titan matches and talking to people he’s faced as a key part of his preparation for the win.

Apolo Dantes tweeted that Diamante won the Occidente Heavyweight Championship last night. Poor Misterioso.

There was a rumor going around last night that La Parka had died. He was eventually in Monterrey (and Tweeting in the airport.) Monterrey is not that bad.

8 thoughts to “Terrible lays out Rush, Titan comes up short”

  1. The main event thing looks more like a “Rush has to be written out of the shows for G1” angle.

  2. I get the same give as you Ringo, but they may explain Rush’s “return” as him coming back for Terrible’s hair.

  3. I believe Rush’s next Friday show will be August 20th, that would be a very short buildup to the Anniversary show. Maybe Terrible/Rush is their backup plan, for example if they want to go with Niebla/Volador as the main event and Niebla disappears once again. On the order hand, it wouldn’t be typical for CMLL to have a backup plan. ;)

  4. With CMLL you always have to put an asterisk next to any discussion when it comes to building a match as at the last second they can cheap-out and just do a cage with Kraneo losing his mask. But with that in mind I am predicting the Anniversary Show main event will be:

    Rush/Terrible vs Shocker/Mr. Niebla – Relevos Suicidas (*)

I think they’ll build Shocker/Niebla in the weeks Rush is gone and it’s the reason their singles match was abruptly cancelled for no reason a couple weeks back. It’s also a good way to get Rush/Shocker feuding which is a feud they can do down the line.

  5. @LLL: ………………my cable system says, “Combates de Lucha Libre” and so did Galavision’s own grid until Thursday. As a result it screwed up my scheduled recording.

  6. @Rob – I would assume if they do that tag match at Anniversario, that would be Niebla losing his mask to Shocker. That would be a nice little book-end for Shocker, but it seems like they are wasting a good opportunity to give a guy like Volador a big win there. But, perhaps that would draw better…

  7. @Nikita: Definitely. If they’re thinking long term (which I would advocate) I would save Rush/Terrible for the year-end show. Toss in some Rush/Shocker problems in the build-up to the Anniversary and align Shocker with his former protege Terrible afterwards. Then you can do Rush taking Terrible’s hair at the year end show and both Rush/Shocker can be strong heading to the March Dos Leyendas show in a hair match.

(I also think Shocker will have a role in the Anniversary somehow b/c he’s on El Luchador again and surely they can’t do Felino/Bucanero again.)
