what the heck

Leono & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Zayco: A normal opening match without anything interesting happening. Leono looks so much older than the days when he was pushed, but then those days are getting to be long ago. I wouldn’t go as far as calling him good, but he’s worked on his look and his wrestling and is better than he was in those days, but he’s never getting to the tercera unless a car load of people get stuck in traffic. Timing is everything, though I’m sure if it’s his bad timing for not being good enough when they were ready to use him or their bad timing for using him before he was ready. Zayco’s new mask looks good, though it’s almost too much Evil Trueno than Zayco.

strong work here

Astral, Niño de Acero, Pequeño Halcón vs Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia: about what you’d expect when the best técnico is Astral, and worse than that because Astral wasn’t doing much good. There’s a lot of new guys who might be good in a few years, but they’re definitely not good right now. Nino de Acero is an unremarkable técnico, instead of being an unremarkable rudo.

Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Pólvora, Virus: Standard competent match from these five guys and the rotating rudo spot – at least until Sangre Azteca makes friends with Misterioso, then they can do this exact same six person forever. Virus is better than Sangre, though. Nothing you haven’t seen if you have seen this combination, but everything they did went fine.

Stuka breaks up this run of botched spot

La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Shocker vs Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro: Surprise fun match. Namajague (and Dorada) seem to be only up at this level while they’re teaming with Yujiro, but I hope Namajague gets more chances like this. He worked great with Mascara and Dorada, not an easy guy to keep up with. Yujiro has slowly become more tolerable too. Very energetic match.

Yujiro, cheeseball

Atlantis, Blue Panther, La Sombra vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Psicosis: Usual técnicos/Invasors match. Kraneo is still impressive for how well he can move around when he has so much to move around. Panther forgot a spot, an amazing turn of events, and he and Olímpico did not look good at all in the first fall. Not a bad match but not a memorable one.
