Pequeno Nitro unmasks Aereo, Niebla outsmarts Volador, TripleMania not on TV?

CMLL (SUN) 07/15/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La CatedralLa Catedral (mask), Tercera Caida]
1) Bengala, Freesbe, Leono b Apocalipsis, Sensei, Zayco
Sensei replaced Ramstein, did not have problems with his teammates. Tecnicos took 1/3, Leono beating Apocalipsis.
2) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior b Eléctrico, Niño de Acero, Último Dragoncito
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Delta, Diamante, Hijo del Fantasma b Felino, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos did not perform well, but took falls 2/3.
4) Pequeño Nitro b Aereo [mask]
Arkangel & Astral were seconds, though Skandalo appeared to be at ringside as well. Two quick falls to start. Nitro took 2/3 to win the mask. Aereo is Víctor Gonzalo Barragán Hernández, 22 years old.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger b Blue Panther, Guerrero Maya Jr., Valiente
Guerrero Maya replaced Super Porky. Rudos took 2/3.
6) Mr. Niebla b Volador Jr.
Zac was with Niebla, and Mije was with Volador, in his old Yoda outfit. They battled. Volador won the first with a backcracker, Niebla took the second with a Nieblina, and the third with a foul.

This is not the most flattering picture of unmasked Aereo. I believe the plan is for Aereo to take Bam Bam’s spot as young unmasked tecnico mini who may appeal to a certain segment of the fans. You can see Cesar setting that up (among other things) in his recap.

AAA TV announced a new taping of 08/10 in Ciudad Madero. That seems to indicate TripleMania won’t only not be on PPV, but may be held off TV for the immediate future. By taping on 08/10, they can skip over TripleMania on TV and not miss a week (and once the Olympics start, they may be missing weeks anyway.) It’s possible, even likely TripleMania would air at the end of the year instead, but if it’s not going to air on TV right away, they need to push it on TV. I know I assumed the no PPV announcement meant it’d air on TV, so there’s probably potential ticket buying people who believe the same and should  be advised otherwise.

Rob has highlights of April ’99 AAA and 12/02/11 CMLL.

LuchaWorld has a KrisZ’s news update.

  1. AAA would be stupid to not air Triplemania. It is their biggest event of the year. I mean don’t get me wrong AAA is so crappy and irrelivant to the world of wrestling that it really won’t matter, but by AAA not airing Triplemania means that the company is admitting that they don’t matter and that’s not good for business.

  2. I don’t necessarily agree that AAA is crappy and irrelevant but it would be really dumb not to have Triplemania on TV rather quickly, especially with it being the 20th edition.

  3. Why are people complaining about Triplemania possibly not airing on television.

Airing the biggest show of the year as an episode of weekly television never made sense to me. It’s not special. It’s about time they distinguish Mania.

  4. @LLL: They are complaining because they would like to see this show without traveling to Mexico City and purchasing a ticket. If it doesn’t air anywhere, they’ve made it very well attended spot show.

  5. @LLL: Remember that it’s neither airing on regular TV or PPV, anywhere. If that is in fact what ends up happening then I most certainly will question that business strategy.

  6. @Daniel: I’m guessing no matter where & when it airs you will question their business strategy strictly for not using Latin Lover. It’s what makes you hilarious,

  7. @Rob: You’re right they are stupid for not having him, but with they way AAA is right now I would much rather see Latin Lover in CMLL. CMLL is a professionally run company that is still reputable, and that’s where any decent luchador should be.

But all that being said, there was a report that Latin Lover go injured back in February so he might not be fully recovered yet. He was supposed to be on the St. Valentine’s Day edition of Perros Del Mal and according to Meltzer he was supposes to appear regualary on Perros and AAA had he not been injured. But since that happened CMLL mentioned Latin Lover’s name as a guy they want to bring in due to their current lack of star power, so I’m hoping that once Latin Lover gets better, CMLL will make him an offer he can’t refuse.

  8. @Rob: ECW is for disenfranchised white trash. Alienated dysfunctional unable to emote properly, wardrobe consists of Cactus Jack and Metallica t-shirts, etc……..

So what does this have to do with AAA and Latin Lover? AAA is imitating ECW of 1996. That’s why the stripper types are phased out of the current AAA product. And nothing is going to change any time soon.

  9. @LLL: goatee, tattoos, pickup truck, UFC-liking, Philly cheesesteak eating, and a sister named either Ashlee, Caylee, or Britnee.

AAA has done everything to scare off the family crowd in favor of attracting the above described element. Problem is, they live in another country.

  10. @LLL: Man that last post you just posted has to be the most intelligent thing I’ve read from you. You said:

“goatee, tattoos, pickup truck, UFC-liking, Philly cheesesteak eating, and a sister named either Ashlee, Caylee, or Britnee.

AAA has done everything to scare off the family crowd in favor of attracting the above described element. Problem is, they live in another country. ”

You are 100% right…AAA is reaching out to an audience/market that is not available to them, and they are alienating the market that IS available to them. That’s why is crappy and that’s the basis of all the criticisms towards it. I was the biggest AAA fan in the world back when it was being run properly, but what we have now is a disgrace of what it used to be.

  11. @Daniel: No. The most intelligent I’ve said is the CMLL does not air in the US when the person who edits the show in the US is on vacation.

If you understand Hispanics, in most cases, the’re a numbers culture. They do everything in groups. So why book a product meant to appeal to lonely introverted dirtbag “hardcore” white trash types?

  12. @thecubsfan: One can enjoy AAA while still not agreeing with doing staple guns or episodes with 20 chair shots. It’s still an enjoyable promotion. Good promos. Great minis. Love the women’s division too.

  13. @LLL: Why is it you tend to boil everything down to racial stereotypes? In this topic alone you’ve generalized all latinos & “white trash”. I’m an ECW ’96 fan & current AAA fan. My sister is not named either of the names you suggested, nor do I like UFC or have a goatee. Nobody even brought up anything to do with ECW until you launched into your rant against “white trash” much like you’ve done in the past re: Obama/blacks.

I still don’t get your stance on AAA. You seem to have nothing positive to say about it (this week) and yet (last week) you were talking about how great the production was and how it needed to be back on Galavision in the U.S.? What’s next week?

Also, your tweet above seems to have been deleted or your account is now protected? I can’t figure it out. Which race does this fit with?

  14. @Rob: It’s not a racial stereotype. Latinos are family-oriented. It’s the main reason for the famous “kids price” at Lucha shows.

I don’t really rant about blacks and Obama. They turned out in droves in NC and VA and that’s how he won. That’s not a rant. Their support of Obama is no different than the Irish-Catholics for Kennedy decades ago. That’s politics. Appeal to a bloc and you can win it all.

AAA should be on in the US. No one said otherwise. I was simply explaining to Daniel why the stripper category has been phased out in AAA. And it probably isn’t coming back any time soon. That’s not really a rant. Current bookers have other ideas.

I liked ECW too. That changes nothing. ECW was a white trash favorite. That’s who it appealed to. Look at the product. Look at the fans. Look at the timeslots. AAA thinks they can duplicate that success in Mexico. I don’t think the staple guns and unprotected chair shots in every episode will lead to box office success, but I could be wrong.

Race is everything in marketing. It’s not racist to recognize that. What you call “racial stereotypes” are really demographics.

  15. @LLL: You’ve gone on a few racial tangents over here and on your twitter. I would love to point out examples but your twitter was mysteriously deleted after Cubsfan pointed out your contradiction. Did you get hacked?

  16. How is saying that AAA deserves to be on tv while pointing out to Daniel that the strippers aren’t going to figure prominently in the booking a contradiction?

Almost everyone here has at some point criticized AAA about something.

  17. @LLL: You know I don’t want to go agains you here becuase I agree with a lot of what you said, but Rob does have a point. In the past you have advocated strongly in favour of AAA and now this week you seem to have done a complete 180 about it. I was surprised by it too, but surprised in a good way. I like the fact that you’re pointing out many of the wrongs with AAA.

Me here’s where I stand. I was never a fan of the old ECW but to their credit they knew their audience and there was some balance between proper wrestling and extreem. The current AAA TRIES HARD to be ECW but fails. The current AAA rarely ever has proper wrestling anymore it’s just chairs, tables, grabgage cans, guys wrestling in T-Shirts and other stupidity. And the stupidest part is that they have alienated a lot more fans than attracting fans. That’s always been where I stand and I continue to stand by that.

  18. @Daniel: It’s not a 180. I along with Nikita and several others have said on several occasions that there is too much brawling, too many unprotected chair shots, and that they sometimes cross the line, like the staple gun angles.

I have also complained in recent months that the stripper types have been minimized. They were a major part of AAA’s identity. Lodging a complaint or two(something everyone who posts here has done ie: complaining about storyline continuity or foreign talent) does not make someone anti-AAA.

As far as wrestling in t-shirts, that’s a good thing because I think steroid usage is at an all time low in AAA. I think it’s higher in CMLL.

  19. The crazy thing is that we don’t have the details yet. It will probably air on TV after the olympics. It might go straight to DVD(I assume Mexico is on DVD’s now too).

    All this is just guessing.

From looking at the audience, I see a lot of kids at AAA shows. They still attracting families. They still have gimmicks and masks.

Strippers was made for the women. I doubt the kids and males will miss those strippers.

Everybody should email Konnan before this Monday so he can answer questions on his MLW radio show.

  20. @LLL: Wrestling in T-Shirts is not a good thing because it makes the product look very trailor park. I’m in favour of guys wearing costumes, like the Dark Family with the puffy shirts and vests, or certain wrestlers who wear body outfits—-that stuff is OK because it enhances the character and it still looks athletic. But when guys like the Perros where T-Shirts they don’t look like athletes, they look like trailor trash and that gives the product in general a trailor park look and feel.
