05/05-06 lucha times

=== CMLL ===

52MX: Definitely Angel de Oro vs Negro Casas. Hoping they air the minis Cibernetico instead of one (or both) the midcard trios matches, but no guarantee.

LATV: they should be on the 04/17 taping but who knows.

Televisa/Galavision: Trios title match + Warrior/Escorpoin. No lightning match until the tournament is over, not sure what they’ll do with the extra time.

FOX: Tuareg vs Pegasso/Cometa/Sangre + Peste Negra vs Atlantis/Azul/Shocker. This appears to be the 300th episode of the show, though I may be off a couple either way.

C3: Rojo/UG vs Panther/Azul for the tag titles, and the mini Reyes del Aire. Perhaps coverage of this tournament.

GDL: Is Okumura or Valiente the champion? Find out – maybe?

Puebla: Dragon Rojo vs Sombra. Maximo/Porky comedy match was said to be very good.

=== Other ===

AAA: this one’s confusing. Neza didn’t make sense as a double taping, but they skipped the main event. Presumably that means the main event will air on both shows. The Televisa show has a few matches to choose from that aren’t aired, but all the regional show has left is the dark match. (It just now occurs to me that Comando Negro – training with Arkangel last we heard – might turn up on AAA TV this week. He must’ve found a new trainer!)

ACM: Konnan Big vs Simbolo.

IWRG: More FdT action and rookies.

No TxT. My TiVo says AYM has the usual Saturday morning programming, but online listings say they are pre-empted for 8 hours of college baseball. Probably not getting new lucha either way.

Puebla, NotiAAA, Yujiro, CMLL rankings

CMLL (MON) 04/30/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Lestat, Milenium, Tigre Rojo Jr. b Arissma, King Jaguar, Policeman
tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Bronco, Inquisidor, Puma King b Höruz, Metatrón, Stigma
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Namajague, Vangelis, Virus b Delta, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.
Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Máximo, Rush, Super Porky b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Straight falls for the tenicos.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr. b La Sombra [CMLL MIDDLE]
Dragon took 1/3 to keep the title. He looked better than the prior week.

There was no on En Busca de Un Idolo web show, as had been previously mentioned. C3’s Karla did mention on Twitter that Euforia defeated Diamante and Titan & Niebla Roja went to a time limit draw. Not sure when they’ll be revealing these results – maybe on this week’s C3 show?

AAA’s posted a NotiAAA segment on their YouTube channel. (Did this air? Planning to watch AAA tonight.) It’s great that they’re finally doing this. In the five minute bit, Mesias’ surgery is shown. The doctor says he’ll be good in three months. Mesias walking around in real life in a sleeveless jacket is the most notable thing in this segment. Also, it appears La Parka rejoined the tecnico side because Dorian stood him up for a meeting. I’d do the same. There’s a Jeff & Karen Jarrett promo at the end (and nothing after it), just advising you.

CMLL.com posted a mean foreigner Yujiro promotion, perhaps to remind us that he’s the guy from No Limit we’re not supposed to like. CMLL needs to do Yujiro versus Diamante Azul trios for a long while. (Diamante Azul actually safely German suplexed Dragon Rojo on Cadena3 this week, it was amazing.)

Rob has highlights of 05/06/11 CMLL and May 96 AAA, but the most important thing is his ranking of the CMLL luchadors. There’s a lot I agree with, though Hijo del Signo is way too low. Rob says he’s doing the women and minis later, but I want a ranking of the CMLL referee too.

CMLL (TUE) 05/08/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Robin & Soberano Jr. vs Apocalipsis & Cholo
2) Lluvia, Luna Mágica, Silueta vs La Seductora, Lady Afrodita, Tiffany
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Titán vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Dragon Lee vs Puma King [En Busca de un Idolo]
5) Triton vs Pólvora [En Busca de un Idolo]
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Super Porky, Valiente vs Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto
7) Diamante Azul, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Psicosis

I see Diamante Azul is going for his biggest suplex yet.

It’s weird seeing Busca members on Busca shows in non tournament action. Titan vs Cancerberos should be fun.

Lady Afrodita debuted back on the Arkangel tribute show last year (as a tecnica), immediately went to REINA, came back, and went back in to the group of trainees who aren’t quite ready enough to make TV yet, so it’s been a long time since CMLL matches for her.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. AAA announced Mesias would be out three months after arm surgery. The injury was attributed to an attack by Perro Aguayo back at the start of April, though it wasn’t until the end of April when Mesias actually had surgery and he was working the day prior. AAA appeared to know enough about the injury ahead of time to do the injury angle, but they also had Perro challenge Mesias for TripleMania, which he’d not be back for if he’s out three months. Suspiciously, Puerto Rico’s WWC has announced Mesias would be appearing for them at the end of June/early July, a month earlier than Mesias is supposed to be healthy. (AAA also still hasn’t announced when or where TripleMania is.)
  2. CMLL announced the El Busco de un Idol tournament as a way to promote young talent. It’s the third straight one of those. The difference here is there are judges, and they’re trying to keep any news of the tournament off the internet. If they put it over strong on TV, it really doesn’t matter that’s it not on the internet, but it’s still is weird since the matches are happening in front of a live crowd.
  3. in the prior young wrestlers tournament, Euforia & Terrible beat Triton & Atlantis to win the Gran Alternativa. Euforia celebrated by getting the senior citzen’s discount at Denny’s.
  4. On AAA’s first taping in over three weeks, Jeff & Karen Jarrett. The won, teaming with Chessman agianst Juvi & La Parka, but LA Park ran in and made Karen put on a witch’s outfit. In the undercard, one pair of siblings (Mari & Fabi) are now feuding, while another pair (Silver King & Dr. Wagner) made peace after feuding for a couple years. It’s unclear where this leaves the rest of Silver’s Manaicos (or even who’s still in that group.)
  5. AAA ran a few filled out spot shows in major towns as part of a deal with main sponsor APASCO (a cement/building supply company). The logistics of running those shows meant a long gap between TV tapings
  6. CMLL’s annual Kid’s Day show was one for the rudos. Rudo (though beloved) Negro Casas defeated young tecnico Angel de Oro to keep the NWA Welterweight Championship, while only one tecnico got a won a deciding fall in the undercard.

  • Todo x el Todo’s Kid Day show was well down from it’s prior show with Santo’s mask on the line. They may have set up something with Santo or Fuerza, or Fuerza could’ve just been his usual cranky self. They did definitely tease Rayo/Cien
  • Rush’s trio (Marco Corleone & Maximo) defeated Terrible’s trio (Rey Bucanero & Tiger) to keep the CMLL Trios title in the main event of the 56th Arena Mexico Anniversary show.
  • Halloween unquit the Perros del Mal.
  • Ultimo Dragoncito won CMLL’s Mini Rey del Aire
  • Rey Misterio resigned from the Tijuana lucha commission to resume promoting.
  • Other people who’ve kept their titles: Marcela, Dragon Rojo & Ultimo Guerrero
  • Konnan Big and Konnan el Barbaro are feuding in Monterrey
  • Monterrey’s Hijo del Ninja unmasked himself on TV in attempt to garner controversy, and totally succeeded.

Konnan Big shaves Neurosis, Damain trimpuhs in DTU, Dragoncito Rey del Aire, Guerreros keep titles

LyC (SUN) 04/29/2012 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [Arena Coliseo, LuchaMania Monterrey]
1) Ciclon & Rey Orion b Chamaco Gurrola & Drago (MTY)
2) Gemelo Muerte I, Vasco Jr., Veneno Extremo b Dark Fenix, Obsession, Xtreme Boy
3) Dralion b Silencio, Angel Dorado Jr., Gato Fantasma, Rey Demonio Jr. [LyC Rey del Aire]
4) Hombre Sin Miedo, Sangre Chicana Jr., Sobredosis b Golden Boy, Rico Rodriguez, Simbolo
5) Konnan Big b Big Neurosis [hair]
Simbolo & Konnan AAA were in Neurosis’ corner. A mystery person attacked Konnan Big early to set up Neurosis get the advantage, but Konnan Big dominated most of the match. Neurosis finally came back, only for Simbolo to turn on him (again!) and foul him to set up the Konnan Big win. Konnan AAA served Konnan Big with legal papers for the name, and declared war on Llaves y Canados.

Attendance was guessed at 3000. They’re coming back here on 05/13 with Garza & Elegido vs Toscano & Hijo del Ninja (unmaked), plus Zorro, Sexi Star and Konnan.

DTU (TUE) 05/01/2012 Arena Aficion [Estrellas del Ring]
***Epidemia Destructiva 2012***
1) El Hijo del Mosco b Violento Fly [exhibition]
2) Hacker & Nino Hamburgesa b Kaleth & Lanceloth and Extreme Boy & Lucky Boy
3) Keira b Dashuri, La Vaquerita
No Lily Fighter. Dashuri beat Vaquerita, Keira beat Dashuri.
4) Flamita b Principe Halcon, Poison
5) Súper Nova & Zumbi b Araña de Plata & Eterno and Cerebro Negro & Dr. Cerebro
Zumbi and Cerbero Negro had issues.
6) Ciclope b Aero Boy, Paranoiko, Hormiga, Fantasma de la Ópera, Black Fire
Fantasma de la Opera replaced Drastick Boy. Cerebro Negro tried to help Fantasma, hit him, and Ciclope pinned Aero Boy in the confusion.
7) Violento Jack DRAW X-Fly [#1 Contenders, DTU]
double pin after both bloody guys fell off the top rope on to a ladder covered in barbed wire and pinned each other.
8) Bestia 666 & Damián 666 b Joe Lider & Super Mega and Extreme Tiger & Kaientai
Match said to include electrified barbed wire. Bloody DTU match. Damian pinned Kaientai. After the match, Damian demanded that Crazy Boy bring in Supreme to DTU so they could fight. Crazy Boy said OK.

CMLL (TUE) 05/01/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Kaiser Sports (1-2), Kaiser Sports (6)]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Molotov, Sensei b Artillero, Bobby Zavala, Súper Comando
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Último Dragoncito b Eléctrico, Bam Bam, Astral, Fantasy, Pequeño Halcón, Aereo, Niño de Acero, Demus 3:16, Pierrothito, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Universo 2000, Mercurio [Mini Reyes del Aire]
Sides were Nitro, Fantasy, Demus, Universo, Pierrothio, Electrico, Aereo, Olimpico vs Mercurio, Violencia, Warrior, Acero, Halcon, Astral, Bam Bam, Dragoncito. Elimination order was Nino de Acero, Aereo, Universo, Halcon, Nitro, Warrior (strechered), Fantasy, Violencia, Demus, Electrico, Bam Bam, Olimpico, and Pierrothio, giving the win to Dragoncito. Ultimo Dragoncito wants a three way mask match with Pierrothito and Olimpico, but not to celebrate the 20th mini anniversary – but to main event the 79 Anniversary show!
3) Diamante ?? Euforia [En Busca de Un Idolo]
4) Titán ?? Niebla Roja [En Busca de Un Idolo]
5) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero b Blue Panther & Diamante Azul [CMLL TAG]
Dragon Rojo & UG retained the titles, taking falls 2/3 clean. This is credited as their 15th defense. Champs talked about a pending match with Atlantis & Delta, and threw their support to Niebla Roja in the current current tournament, implying Roja would get to join the group if he wins.

As you’ll notice, neither source reported on the Busca matches. There’s a half hour gap in Twitter results, so either they did happen, or everyone sat patiently and discussed how great it was that Ultimo Dragoncito won the tournament.

I presume this a purposeful media blackout, trying to keep results secret until the web show (which is supposed to be tonight, but hasn’t been mentioned of late.) I’m not sure of any other site covering CMLL shows regularly right now; Reforma might but it’s behind a $14/month paywall. Ovaciones may still be doing some lucha coverage but very little of it makes it on to their website. Metro has/had a lucha column, but they’ve never gone on the web. I don’t know that you want to encourage people to cover your promotion even less – especially since these matches are happening in front of a live audience and being reported on your radio show on Friday nights – but that seems to be the call here.

On the wiki, we’ve got 8 defenses for Dragon Rojo & Ultimo Guerrero. There’s a ninth that isn’t on the wiki (yet) because results never turned up, but that’s five more defenses unaccounted for. Lots of CMLL spot shows that go unmentioned? Just making up defenses? Could be either. If they were going to do the Defense Record bit for these titles (and they made it clear that was the idea from the beginning), it would help if CMLL hyped each defense when it happened, wherever it happened.

Tijuana’s MV promotions is asking which of these three luchadors their fans would like to see in a singles match: Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., and Perro Aguayo Jr.

I love this list of outside luchadors who’ve been in Dragon Gate: Abdullah the Butcher, Matt Sydal, Masada, Jack Evans and Vangelis.

LuchaWorld has Alfredo on CMLL 03/19/12 and on AAA luchadors on a game show, and KrisZ’s news update.

6) Chessman & Jeff Jarrett b Juventud Guerrera & La Parka
After the first match, Joaquin and the tecnicos came out to say hi to the children and update on Mesias’s injury (“returning soon”). Joaquin announced La Parka was back on the tecnico side. Dorian, Konnan, Jeff and Karen interrupted, saying all of the Park/Parka gimmicks were old news. Jeff yelled at the people, Karen talked back about LA Park’s mom. Dorian and Joaquin almost fought. In this match, Jarrett won with a guitar shot on Juvi. Rudos celebrated until LA Park made a surprise appearance to run them off. Karen was trapped in the ring, and Park made her put on a witch costume. LA Park made it clear he was no friend of La Parka or Joaquin, but against the Jarretts.

Air Date: 05/13? Maybe 05/20 as well?

Next taping is 05/07 in Merida, with Jarrett back on the card.

Sin Cara in Mexico, Dragon Rojo keeps his title, Bandolero does not

Dragon Rojo kept his title last night in Puebla over Sombra.

This recap only has results of a couple of matches from the Valerie Office show this past Sunday, but one is a title change – Epidemia beat Bandolero for the GALLI championship.

Sin Cara was in Mexico this past weekend, signing autographs and doing press for the May WWE tour of Mexico. Those are the shows in Hermosilllo, Aguascalientes, and Guadalajara at the end of the month, no stop in Mexico City or Monterrey this time. Sin Cara told the press, and WWE Raw in Mexico last night announced, that’d he’d be back in the ring on those shows. Sin Cara told people at WrestleMania that he’d be back in a month, and now thinks he’s a maximum of three weeks. Sin Cara says he’s happy with how his WWE stint has gone, feeling the company has supported him even though he’s had starts and stops. Sin Cara revealed his uncle had taught him to work both sides (Mexico uses the right side, US and elsewhere uses the left) when he was starting, but it was still an adjustment to remember to go to the opposite side.

Tercera Caida has their Sin Cara interview tonight.
