top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. AAA announced Mesias would be out three months after arm surgery. The injury was attributed to an attack by Perro Aguayo back at the start of April, though it wasn’t until the end of April when Mesias actually had surgery and he was working the day prior. AAA appeared to know enough about the injury ahead of time to do the injury angle, but they also had Perro challenge Mesias for TripleMania, which he’d not be back for if he’s out three months. Suspiciously, Puerto Rico’s WWC has announced Mesias would be appearing for them at the end of June/early July, a month earlier than Mesias is supposed to be healthy. (AAA also still hasn’t announced when or where TripleMania is.)
  2. CMLL announced the El Busco de un Idol tournament as a way to promote young talent. It’s the third straight one of those. The difference here is there are judges, and they’re trying to keep any news of the tournament off the internet. If they put it over strong on TV, it really doesn’t matter that’s it not on the internet, but it’s still is weird since the matches are happening in front of a live crowd.
  3. in the prior young wrestlers tournament, Euforia & Terrible beat Triton & Atlantis to win the Gran Alternativa. Euforia celebrated by getting the senior citzen’s discount at Denny’s.
  4. On AAA’s first taping in over three weeks, Jeff & Karen Jarrett. The won, teaming with Chessman agianst Juvi & La Parka, but LA Park ran in and made Karen put on a witch’s outfit. In the undercard, one pair of siblings (Mari & Fabi) are now feuding, while another pair (Silver King & Dr. Wagner) made peace after feuding for a couple years. It’s unclear where this leaves the rest of Silver’s Manaicos (or even who’s still in that group.)
  5. AAA ran a few filled out spot shows in major towns as part of a deal with main sponsor APASCO (a cement/building supply company). The logistics of running those shows meant a long gap between TV tapings
  6. CMLL’s annual Kid’s Day show was one for the rudos. Rudo (though beloved) Negro Casas defeated young tecnico Angel de Oro to keep the NWA Welterweight Championship, while only one tecnico got a won a deciding fall in the undercard.

  • Todo x el Todo’s Kid Day show was well down from it’s prior show with Santo’s mask on the line. They may have set up something with Santo or Fuerza, or Fuerza could’ve just been his usual cranky self. They did definitely tease Rayo/Cien
  • Rush’s trio (Marco Corleone & Maximo) defeated Terrible’s trio (Rey Bucanero & Tiger) to keep the CMLL Trios title in the main event of the 56th Arena Mexico Anniversary show.
  • Halloween unquit the Perros del Mal.
  • Ultimo Dragoncito won CMLL’s Mini Rey del Aire
  • Rey Misterio resigned from the Tijuana lucha commission to resume promoting.
  • Other people who’ve kept their titles: Marcela, Dragon Rojo & Ultimo Guerrero
  • Konnan Big and Konnan el Barbaro are feuding in Monterrey
  • Monterrey’s Hijo del Ninja unmasked himself on TV in attempt to garner controversy, and totally succeeded.

  1. Dangerous unmasked himself last summer and revealed that he was Furor. Also a Arena Coliseo Monterrey thing.
