top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. Hijo del Santo took Angel Blanco Jr.’s mask in the main event of the latest Todo x el Todo. Angel Blanco was unmasked as David Vargas Camarena. The show is to have sold out Gimnasio Juan Barrera.
  2. Over the course of two AAA tapings, the Perros del Mal nearly broke and reunited with Halloween, introduced Teddy Hart and Taya Valkerie as new members and injuried Mesias by attacking his arms. Both Perro Jr. and Garza asked for title shots versus Mesias.
  3. Prince Devitt defeated Volador Jr. for the NWA Middleweight Championship in what sounded like a great match. Devitt returned to Japan with the championship.
  4. Other feuds started or hinted at on the AAA tapings include Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. vs Dr. Wagner, Consejo vs Los Maniacos, Atomic Boy vs Gran Apache, and maybe another Apache split.
  5. Euforia, 37 years old, teamed as a young wrestler with Terrible to win the first block of Gran Alternativa. He will face this Friday’s block winner, expected to be Diamante or Triton.
  6. AAA & Masked Republic announced a deal for international syndication “outside of North America.” Fans in Europe have a better shot of one day seeing this show. No change in the US.

Other News

  • Lucha Libre USA’s RJ Brewer anti-immigration character received a lot of press, including an AP story. Their live shows have not gotten much attention. The group stated a modest hope for 3,000 fans in attendance and has struggled to get half that many paying fans per show.
  • AAA is teasing the return of Psicosis. Nicho has been carrying around the mask at the last few tapings, but it’s not clear if it’s meant to be him. A new Psicosis would be the fourth (or fifth, depending on if you count Histeria II’s stint as Fake Psicosis.)
  • Bestia won the IWRG Junior’s title over Trauma.
  • Violento Jack won the vacant Perros del Mal Extremo title on their latest show. The Traumas also officially joined the group (as far as their own shows, not AAA)
  • People who kept their title: Polvora, Pequeno Olimpico.

  1. The only reason someone like RJ Brewer gets publicity is because it’s an election year.
