Polvora keeps his title, Ultimo Dragoncito challenges for one, missing minis, return of Psicosis

CMLL (MON) 03/19/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Lestat & Stigma b Akron & Ares
Lestat replaced Milenium. Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Milenium, Pequeño Halcón, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
Milenium replaced Shockercito, who hasn’t been on any show in a couple months. Tecnicos took 2/3, Dragoncito German suplexing Olimpico. This is two straight weeks for Dragoncito, so he challenged Olimpico for a title match.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado b Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Maximo replaced his father. Namajague’s Puebla debut. Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Pólvora b Stuka Jr. [MEX WELTER]
Misterioso seconded Polvora, Fantasma seconded Stuka. Polvora took 1/3, to keep his title in what sounds like a very good match. Super Polvora Driver allowed the champion to kepe his title.
5) Atlantis, La Máscara, La Sombra b Olímpico, Psicosis, Volador Jr.
Atlantis replaced Prince Devitt. Volador was wearing a Super Parka mask. Tecnicos took 2/3.

Is Polvora actually better than Dragon Rojo Jr.? I know saying Polvora is good is a thing only said by crazy people, but Polvora has had good title matches with Stuka (twice), Titan and Angel de Oro in the last year. Dragon Rojo has…not. Maybe it’s a singles/trios thing.

CMLL (TUE) 03/20/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Javier Cruz Jr. b Demonio Maya
2) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Smaker b Malefico & Ráfaga
Tecnicos won, despite Smaker dislocating his elbow on a top rope move in the third fall.
3) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito b Astral, El Divino, Último Dragoncito
Divino replaced Bam Bam, who seems to be missing a lot of shows again. Demus beat Dragoncito for the win.
4) Diamante & Sangre Azteca b Misterioso Jr. & Rey Escorpion
In the final fall, Rey Escorpion powerbombed Diamante, Sangre Azteca snuck in a cradle on Escorpion, then took out Misterioso with the low blow dropkick for the comeback win.
5) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Marco replaced Prince Devitt. Rudos took 1/3. Averno accidentally hit the ref, then ran into the Atlantida, but Mephisto broke that up with a foul. Averno pulled off Atlantis’ mask to pin him, while Mephisto did the same with Mascara Dorada.

Shockercito’s last known result was January 17th, Bam Bam was January 31st.

Dragon Lee thanked Paco Alonso (multiple times), Rush and his dad in winning the Sangre Nueva tournament. The cup he won for the tournament looks a lot like the ones they gave out for the Dos Leyendas ciberentico. Like, the same exact cup.

Mi Lucha Libre has a video tribute to Abismo Negro, and says the next edition of the Rudos vs Tecnicos magazine (out April 1st) will be honoring him.

AAA continues to tease the return of Psicosis. There’s never been a mention of that New Abismo Negro reality show after the pilot taping and it’s likely a dead idea, but if they were going to do that same idea, Psicosis would be a better gimmick for it.

Tonight’s IWRG show is main evented by Trauma I defending his Junior’s title against Bestia 666. The law of Conversation of Championships Belts, plus Familia de Tijuana suddenly being a strong presence in Naucalpan, points towards a title change.

Hijo de Rey Misterio II – the former Horus from Tijuana – told el Hijo del Santo that Hijo de Rey Misterio I is now going as Rey Misterio Jr. “to help clear up the confusion.” Ha! El Martinete has a picture graph to clear this up, as much as it can be.

AAA’s 04/01 taping is at Lienzo Charro de Pachuca, Hidalgo. They’ve tended to only put the lineup for the next taping after the last, which doesn’t leave much time for this one.

Fabian el Gitano, who passed away one year ago, was honored at a mass at Arena Coliseo. Puma King, Metalico, Robin and Demus 3:16 were mentioned as being in attendance.

  1. Call me crazy, but I’ve been on the Polvora train for awhile now. He ain’t no great-shakes, but he is serviceable. Viva Cancerberos!

  2. Rant: CMLL lighting at Arena Mexico was fine for the last few years. A few months ago CMLL brass attended WWE tapings in Mexico City. Some said they were there to observe the overall WWE presentation. Not long after, the lighting grid at Arena Mexico was raised higher. Now it looks like shit.

Did CMLL decide that they should raise the grid higher like WWE, not realizing that they would also need to widen the grid and add lamps too? Could this be what happened?

  3. Mexico City venues such as the Foro Sol and Auditorio Nacional have consistently ranked at the top of Pollstar’s Worldwide Ticket Sales charts for years, and it’s no wonder – the market has more than 21 million residents, and the thirst for entertainment is great.

But despite putting up some impressive numbers, Mexico City has, until now, lacked a modern, technologically advanced, indoor arena.
The $300 million Arena Ciudad De Mexico should change all that.
The 22,000-capacity venue – designed and constructed by a team including KMD Architects and Avalanz Group – debuted with a Luis Miguel concert Feb. 25. Operator and promoter Zignia Live has high hopes for the facility.
“We are looking to have Arena Ciudad de Mexico as one of the top five arenas in the world,” Zignia Director of Operations Pedro Labarta told Pollstar, noting the steel- and glass-faced venue sports a panoply of special features that will differentiate it from other venues in the market.

For one thing, there’s the size. Labarta explained the Arena Ciudad De Mexico is the largest indoor arena in the market. The venue also features a nearly 67,000-square-foot outdoor LED screen and 7,500-square-foot, center-hung video screen, air conditioning that the large, older venues in the market lack, restaurants and bars, 124 suites and 5,000 free parking spots, he said.

Zignia Live books the Arena Monterrey in northeastern Mexico. The promoter is planning to position the new facility as a must-visit stop for artists that may have previously felt there simply wasn’t the right venue for them in the region.

“We are working to have the best shows and the best artists in Mexico City and Monterrey,” Labarta said. “We are trying to have a pool to bring the artists to visit both places.”

Zignia is also planning to showcase sporting events at the new facility, and discussions are under way to host exhibition NBA games, tennis matches and arena football.

Though the Arena Ciudad De Mexico currently stands alone, the venue could someday serve as the flagship for an entire entertainment district – possibly a sort of L.A. Live, Mexico City-style.

“We have permission from the authorities to build a small stadium next to the arena,” Labarta explained, adding construction could begin as early as next year.

Upcoming shows on the books include Santana, Pitbull, Ricardo Arjona, Yanni and Demi Lovato.

  4. I’ve never seen someone so obsessed with lighting.

Went to FCW on Wednesday night and Benicio Salazar(former Medico Asesino) as turned completely into 2003 Dr. Wagner Jr. He has a green, red and White mask and tights. He eve does Wagner moves and taunts. That’s a major plus to me cause that’s my favorite era of Dr. Wagner.
