Konnan

Konnan’s interview on Figure Four Daily was as entertaining as usual. I’m not sure there was any huge news, but a lot of talk about different issues. Konnan teased a Consejo surprise at Rey de Reyes which would really tick off Consjeo, and big news about…something implied to be in AAA in the US, I think…coming next time he’s on. Which I believe he said last time, but that’s how it goes.

Konnan told a story about sneaking into Arena Mexico under a mask (and with some help) to see if he could learn anything from one of their shows. It turns out, no, he could not (or at least nothing he said.) Konnan estimates Dos Leyendas drew much less than 8,000 based on the video he saw on the internet, feels CMLL has no stars, and would need 2-4 stars to jump from AAA at once for CMLL to turn around.

Konnan revealed Juvi had been brought to the AAA taping in Chilpancingo as a test run to see how he’d behave and if the lockerroom would get along with him. It’s gone fine so far, “Juvi came back more mature.” Konnan hasn’t been as happy with the relationship with TNA, feeling they need a couple TNA guys in AAA full time to make storyline work and they’ve had a lot of issues getting access to talent. It sounded like there may have actually been a plan to give Extreme Tiger his title shot against Jeff Jarrett for winning Rey de Reyes, but they just couldn’t get Jarrett in enough to do it.

Konnan talked about the lawsuit with Santo, promising a big response in a few weeks. Konnan also mentioned Santo had contact many of his wrestlers to bring them in for TxT, but those guys figured TxT isn’t running enough shows for a jump to make sense. Konnan said Santo’s new money backers were from Tijuana, “read between the lines.”

There were also a few mysteries resolved: Aerostar not being booked was just a numbers game and they’re still high on his talent (but low on his charisma), but Laredo Kid is out of AAA for missing shows (due to family issues) and working an unauthorized show. He may be back someday. Decnnis hasn’t been around because they’re not high on him as a rudo, and he may be on the other side soon. Gran Apache’s tecnico appearance was just a one time thing, a concern the AAA tecnicos may get booed against IWRG guys in Naucalpan and wanting a veteran in there, and Apache should be on TV more often this year.

At the end of the interview, Konnan mentioned he’d soon be joining Twitter. That first day he gets into an argument with anyone should be entertaining.

Other News

CMLL’s first Friday night show after Dos Leyendas follows up on some of the lesser issues from the show. Sort of. Diamante Azul, who won his debut by DQ when Volador pulled his mask, does not face Volador but does get his first main event under that name.

The actual more important match might be Rush vs Terrible, but a definite finish between those two seems unlikely.

Marcela beat Ayumi in a one fall match last week, and she’ll be trying to take two falls and the women’s title back tonight. I’m guessing Ayumi keeps the title long enough to defend in May on the REINA anniversary show, but a title chance is possible.

Last Sunday in Guatemala, Ultimo Guerrero defeated Atlantis to keep the major title of the promotion, the FMLL Champion Du Monde. He got a little help from local lead rudo El Padrino to do it. Those three, and Atlantis’ second Voltron, all made challenges after the match – and then actually signed contracts for a cage match in June. They teased it the match might happen in Guatemala or it might happen in Arena Mexico, but it’s surely happening in Guatemala.

A benefit show is being held for Casandro this Sunday in El Paso.

Super Astro’s new restaurant, Las Tortas de Super Astro, opened yesterday. In tragic news, they will not be serving the gigantic Gladiador sandwich this time.

  1. Let’s start a betting line on how quickly Konnan blocks Rob on twitter! I say less than 24 hours.

I have a solution for Aerostar, they should combine Aerostar and Cibernetico into one and call him Ciberstar, half sucky wrestler with charisma and the other half insane high flyer.

  2. Konnan says CMLL has no stars. Fine. I personally would consider Atlantis, Casas, UG, Felino, and others to be bona fide stars, but obviously Konnan does not. That means no one in AAA that is not far and above the level of those guys is not a star either. Which means the only stars in lucha libre are Park and Santo, and only Park is in AAA.
So, who are these jerks that are stars in AAA that would cause CMLL to shatter gate records if they jump?

  3. @Nikita: I think he said Mesias, Cibernetico, and Park would have to go over, though it was clear he meant that caliber of guys and not just singling those three out among the others at the same level.

  4. That’s my point Cubs. How is Ciber a star, but Atlantis isnt? It is either just Konnan talking shit by ripping CMLL, rather than building up AAA.
Although I am strictly going by your synopsis here, as I didn’t listen to the show. Maybe he said “CMLL doesn’t have stars like LA Park or Wagner”, but that’s not what it sounds like…
